Chapter 5: Amusement Park
9S kept sneaking glaces at 2B's side. Her hand looked so empty, like it needed another to hold it. He wanted to grab it so bad, but could never bring himself to it. 2B looked over at him.
"Are you alright, 9S?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Ah! Yeah, I'm good." 9S startled. He quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact through their masks.
A2 walked behind the two androids, watching everything. She mentally face-palmed as she observed 9S' behavior. But A2 did understand where he was coming from. Emotions were hard to talk about.
After a few minutes of traveling through trees, the group found their way to the end of the woods. The great amusement park came into view.
"Why was something like this even built here? It seems pretty useless, this whole amusement park idea." A2 mumbled.
"I think it was left behind by the humans. They liked to have fun here, entertain themselves." 9S replied.
"Correct. Hundreds of years ago, before the human race became extinct, the humans would play in places such as these." Pod042 blipped.
"What a waste of time." A2 scoffed.
"Not really. They weren't built for war like we were. They spent their time having fun and making memories... Something I've never gotten to experience." 9S said.
"There is no more need for fighting. The war has been won. Which means we can have fun just like the humans did." 2B told him.
"Huh... I guess you're right."
9S and 2B took the lead once again, walking side by side up to the amusement park's gate.
"Hello there!" A machine standing at the entrance called.
"Hello. May we enter the park?" 2B asked politely.
"Of course! Enjoy your stay!" The machine receptionist told them.
"Do you think this place is still standing because of the machines?" A2 wondered.
"It is possible. With no humans around for years at a time to care for the area, it would have rotted away a long time ago." Pod153 replied.
"2B, look!" 9S pointed at a long, windy track on what looked like stilts. A row of cars sat at the bottom, waiting to be used.
"The roller coaster..." 2B stared at it. "Last time we were here, we barely had time to take a breath while standing on this thing."
"The intended use of a roller coaster is to sit inside one of the cars, not to stand on top of them." Pod042 commented.
"I think it's more fun to stand. Don't you 2B?" 9S asked.
"I still do not have a good grasp on the whole concept of 'fun'. But sure." She told him.
The androids climbed into the cars, and a nearby machine started up the ride. 2B and 9S stood like statues that had been molded to the car. They kept an amazing balance throughout the ride. 9S glanced at 2B's hand again.
"This is getting exhausting." A2 whispered. "I'm gonna give those two a little push."
"Maybe let them go at their own pace. They would have a healthier relationship if they revealed their feelings when they are ready." Pod153 said.
"It'll be fine, trust me." A2 waved off the pod. She crept over to where the two androids were standing and slightly shoved 9S. He lost his balance and began to fumble around, trying his best not to fall off of the speeding roller coaster. 2B saw him slip almost immediately and grabbed his hand. 9S suddenly realized what had happened as 2B pulled him up and into her arms.
"Be careful, Nines. You wouldn't want to fall off. You'd miss the rest of the ride." 2B stated as she let 9S go. She still held onto his hand, however.
"Uhhh... T-thank you." He stammered. 2B smiled slightly and turned back to watch their ride. 9S subtlety looked back at A2, his face expressing confusion, anger, excitement, and thankfulness. A2 just shrugged as he turned back to 2B. The two androids held hands for the rest of the ride.
A smirking A2 hopped off of the car when the ride slowed to a stop.
"Hey 2B, what's with you holding 9S the whole time?" She teased.
"I had to make sure he didn't slip again." 2B didn't show any signs of being flustered. 9S on the other hand was beginning to smoke. A2 chuckled as the group departed from the roller coaster. As they wandered the amusement park, A2 whispered to Pod153.
"I told you it would be fine." She said.
"I guess you're correct, but maybe take it easy on them. They need time." Pod153 replied.
"Fine, I'll take it down a notch. But I'm still going to continue to 'help' them."
