"Are you sure you're alright, Hyung?" Namjoon said into the cafe's office phone as he leaned against his desk.
"Yeah, I'm okay, Joon. I just need some sleep." Yoongi said, somewhat groggily into the phone.
"If you need anything at any point, please call JK or me."
"Will do. Thank you."
"It's no problem. Just get plenty of rest and feel better for work tomorrow, okay?"
"I will. See you soon." Yoongi hung the phone up.
Namjoon placed the phone back onto the receiver and sighed.
"What's up, Namjoon?" Seokjin said, not taking his eyes off the computer screen.
"Yoongi Hyung is sick and that worries me."
"Why does it worry you?"
"He's never sick. He hasn't missed a day since he started working here two, maybe three years ago."
"So you think something's going on behind your back."
"I-"
Seokjin made a sound, interrupting Namjoon, "Before you say anything, yes, you are thinking that way. Yes, you never think that way. This is an exception. Trust me."
"I just, I don't get it."
"You never do." Seokjin sighed.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Namjoon asked, standing up away from his position on the desk.
Seokjin let go of the mouse and looked up and the younger, "Namjoon, I know you don't want to admit it, but you've finally started to care about someone again in a way you haven't in years."
"But I, I can't, Seokjin Hyung, I just can't."
"Namjoon ah, I know how much it hurt the first time around, I was there, but you can't let it control your life. These are two good people and I know they care about you, too. If you expect everyone to hurt you, you aren't ever going to get anywhere."
"I know, Hyung, I know. It's just so hard."
"I know. I get that. You went through hell and back because of someone you cared for. You have every right to be scared." Seokjin rounded his desk and leaned against it, "You just need the right person, or people I suppose, to care for you and for you to care for and I can promise that you've found them."
"How do you know?"
"I can see the way you look at them. The way you talk about them. I've seen the three of you together too. They look at you the way you look at them. You care, they care, simple as that."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive."
"What if they turn out to be like Ba-"
"Don't even finish that sentence. Baekhyun was horrible. He did and said horrible things to you, things that I'm sure have left an impact on you, but not everybody is like that. You have to have some faith. It would be a ridiculous coincidence if he were to happen again, especially with two new people."
"I like them so much."
"I know you do. That's why you have to take the chance. There's always a possibility they'll feel the same."
"But what if they don't? What if they think I'm gross for liking them both?"
"Forget about the what ifs, okay? Life is about taking risks and this is one of them." Seokjin smiled as he crossed his arms, "You've got this. Just have a bit of faith."
Namjoon took a shaky breath, "Okay. I just- I need a place to ask or at least test this."
"Alright, well, you could always go to the park-"
"Where you and Jimin confessed? I'm not stealing your spot, Hyung, but thank you."
"Suit yourself." Seokjin said, going back to his seat, "I haven't really kept up with cool spots around town anymore, but I'm sure one of the other employees know a spot."
"Wouldn't that be weird though? I mean, your boss that hardly talks to anyone other than your other boss, a customer, and a fellow employee comes to you and asks you for good date spots."
"I don't think it'd be weird to them at all. They all gossip about these kinds of things and I'm sure they've thought this through. Plus, you've been coming a lot more often then you used to so I'm sure they've gotten the chance to at least observe you."
"Because observing me will make all the difference."
Seokjin shrugged, "You never know."
"Alright, I'll ask."
"Good luck." Seokjin said, returning his fingers to their spot on the keyboard while Namjoon made his way to the door.
"Thanks. I'll need it."
Namjoon had strayed away from social situations since Baekhyun and his relationship. It wasn't because of anything Baekhyun had done, in fact, Baekhyun had wanted him to be more social. He had thought that if Namjoon were to be just a bit more open to those kinds of things, he would find himself having fun with it all and maybe even want to be a part of the older's lifestyle. Sure, Namjoon had tried. He spoke more than he used to and to people he normally would never have tried speaking to. He tried his hardest but every word exchanged only tired him out and proved why this had never been his thing in the first place. Of course none of this had ever been explained to Baekhyun who knew of Namjoon's High School old tendencies. Even if Namjoon tried to, the older cut him off by saying that old things would eventually die out and be replaced by the new.
Picture that reserved, quiet kid that sits near the back of the class and puts more focus on his work than his social image. That would've been Namjoon. He had been like that since freshman year of High School and hadn't really seen a problem with it. He wasn't interested in hearing about whether Jennie and Jongin were dating or if they broke up. He didn't enjoy leaning against lockers and discussing Hyuna and Hyojong's relationship that cost them both their jobs. It wasn't what he considered a proper usage of time to gossip about those around him or form friendships that would only last as long as you had classes together or put in the effort to speak to each other. The few friends that he managed to have and keep were always surprised when he spoke more than just two or three sentences. As Namjoon liked to put it, it was a "I have so much to say but no words to say it with" situation over being anxious about talking. He liked hanging around in his thoughts so therefore, he stayed there.
As the first year had passed, people began recognizing Namjoon as such: the quiet, deep in thought, smart kid. It wound up attracting too much attention, way more than he had ever wanted. He became just as well known as the school's quarterback or rich girl. The one kid that you could get answers off of maybe way too easily. He was even recognized by people he didn't know and most likely wouldn't know. He got request after request for answers on worksheets or homework assignments.
It all became too much really for someone who would prefer to stay home over going out with even just one friend. He began to enter the recluse style of life and slowly friends became one of the many things he didn't have enough of. Seokjin, who he met third year of college, was one of the few that he made that actually cared enough to try and at least stick around. Seokjin tried really hard to provide Namjoon with friend material but found quite quickly that it wasn't that easy for him. Namjoon was just happy to have two or three friends to his name. That all changed senior year.
A new kid at the school that was taking the attention of every student, placed his tray down in front of the then ravenette. It was quiet that first lunch, but what more could you expect from two people who had no knowledge of the other. The boy sat with Namjoon for a week after that before their first few words were exchanged.
Namjoon found it slightly easier to be his friend than with someone his friends had tried to introduce him to. He was sure then that it was because the new kid had no prior knowledge of who Namjoon was to everyone else and wanted to be his friend for him over his brain. Now, he wasn't exactly sure that was the truth. They hung out as much as they could over the weekends or whenever time was available. They were always together and seemingly no one could come between that. He showed Namjoon that there was so much more to people than just gossip and hate and for that, he will always be grateful, but the thing he is most grateful for was that the boy taught him how to love. It was an amazing first few months.
Then it all belly went up, but where did Namjoon go? No other place than the boy's arms. He had loved Baekhyun with all his heart and wasn't going to go anywhere, because, that was love, right? Now that Namjoon had had time to reflect, he was sure that Baekhyun had chosen him that day in the cafeteria because he looked weak. Namjoon had to remind himself that the older had classes prior to lunch and was sure to have had the basic run over of the school's staple figures, the then ravenette included. He was sure to have mulled over the idea that people like Namjoon can be weak or even weakened depending on how you play them and he played Namjoon so hard. The salmon haired could only hope that at some point, Baekhyun had actually cared for him. That their friendship, their relationship wasn't just some game, though that could be the only answer. Why else would he leave if he even cared just once?
Namjoon pushed the kitchen door open and found the space Felix-less. The salmon haired tapped on a girl's, who was leaning against the counter by the ovens, shoulder. She turned her head and a confused expression spread across her face.
"Hi," Namjoon started, "I'm looking for Felix, would you happen to know where he is?"
"Felix took off but I'm sure I can help you with whatever you need, Boss." The girl said, crossing her arms, leaning a bit less on the counter.
Namjoon flushed lightly and cleared his throat, "I- Um, it's more of a personal matter."
The girl smirked, "Ah! Boss has a crush."
"W-What? N-No! Not at all!"
The girl, her name tag, now that Namjoon could properly read it, said Jooe, leaned back against the counter, "Just so you know, Felix is taken."
"It's not Felix." Namjoon said shaking his head.
"So who then?"
Namjoon scratched the back of his neck, "Is it important?"
"I suppose not." Jooe shrugged, "What do you need help with?"
"I need a good date spot."
Jooe brightened up a bit, "You've come to the right kitchen employee, Boss! I'm like an encyclopedia of romantic places. Just tell me what your date is like and I've got you covered."
"Well," Namjoon thought over how he could combine the two boys into one to make the whole situation less weird, "He's innocent and doesn't talk much, but when he does, he's caring and will do anything for you. He acts like he's not interesting, but when you get him to open up, he's one of the most intriguing guys you'll ever talk to. He constantly makes me laugh and always knows how to brighten the mood."
Jooe nodded, "I have come to two conclusions."
Namjoon nodded.
"One, there's a fair going on just a couple blocks away that I could give you the directions to and two, you're whipped for those guys."
"Wait- I never said there was more than one." Namjoon said, looking at Jooe with a surprised expression.
Jooe laughed, "I knew who you were talking about the second you asked for date recommendations. You don't think us staff see the way you three act?"
Namjoon looked down.
"Just so you know," Jooe said as she turned back to the ovens which were beeping, "Yoongi likes you both, too. You're all he'll talk about at times."
Namjoon blushed before giving a hurried, "Thank you," and rushing off to the restroom.
He leaned against the door and took a deep breath. Had it really been all that obvious? How had the three of them not noticed it? Namjoon shook his head. For all he knew, the staff could be messing with him. Maybe it was all a joke. Then another question arose the second he brushed the last off, was he really whipped for his two close friends?
