Chapter 15: Trust and Doubts

I cannot force Anya to talk to me. Oo at gusto ko rin siyang makausap, o na gusto kong mag-usap kami. I just want her to feel comfortable with me. Baka kasi hindi na siya lumalabas ng kwarto niya dahil hindi siya komportable sa akin...

So I asked Harrison once, kung pwede ba naming ilabas si Anya. "You aren't busy this Sunday, right? I mean you have time? Pahinga mo naman 'yan." I told him. Although sometimes he still have some work to do even if it's Sunday.

Bumaling sa akin si Harrison. "Yes, why?"

"Uh, naisip ko lang kasi na baka mas'yado na pala tayong busy. And since Anya came back, you haven't spent some time with your daughter yet..." I said.

Nagkatinginan kami ni Harrison. We were in our bedroom now. After our days at work and university we always come home in the house and sleep together on one bed...

"If you're not busy maybe we can bring Anya out on a Sunday? Kumain na rin tayo sa labas. Saan kaya niya gustong pumunta?"

Nanatili sa akin ang tingin ni Harrison. "You can plan for it... and then just tell me."

Napangiti naman ako sa sagot niya dahil pumayag siya sa suhestyon ko na ipasyal din namin si Anya.

Kaso lang ay hindi ko pa alam ang mga paborito o gusto ni Anya. Kung ano kaya ang gusto niyang gawin. At saan niya maaring gustong pumunta. So one day I also tried asking her.

And for the first time, ay kinatok ko na siya sa kwarto niya. Mahina lang ang naging mga pagkatok ko. Pero narinig naman niya at binuksan niya ang pinto. I immediately smiled at her. "Hi, Anya!" I greeted her cheerfully.

"Hi..."

"Uh, can I ask you something?"

"Yes..."

"Your Dad and I are planning for an outing together with you! I'm just here to ask, kung may lugar ka ba na gustong puntahan?" I continued to give her a kind or a friendly smile.

I'm still young. And I haven't had a child of my own yet. Kaya siguro hindi ko pa rin alam kung paano ko i-approach si Anya. But I want to try my best, especially that I also told Harrison when we made the contract that I'd be a mother to his daughter...

At least I want Anya to be comfortable with me.

Hindi siya agad nakasagot sa'kin. But then she slowly nodded her head. "I'm not really familiar with this country yet... so it's up to you..." she answered quietly and slowly.

And that was enough for me. Ngumiti ako sa kaniya. "Okay, Anya. I'll try my best to find a good place for us. A place that you might like." I told her.

Sabagay ay halos sa London naman na talaga siya lumaki dahil doon na siya nag-aral simula noong six years old pa lang siya. Marami naman sigurong mga pasyalan dito na magugustuhan ng isang bata na kagaya niya.

"Okay..." she just nodded at me again.

Ngumiti lang muli ako sa kaniya at nagpaalam na rin muna. She just nodded at me once again. And then I went back to my room.

Then I started researching for places that we can go to this weekend. At naisip ko lang na dalhin namin siya ni Harrison sa isang amusement park. At agad ko rin pinaalam kay Harrison na pumayag na si Anya na lumabas kami sa Sunday.

"Nahirapan ka ba sa kaniya?" he asked me.

"Hmm? You mean, when I asked her about it?" Umiling ako. "Hindi naman. Pumayag nga lang din agad siya." I smiled at him.

Lumapit naman sa akin si Harrison. Napaatras pa ako nang isang beses sa tuloy-tuloy niya lang na paglapit sa akin. And then he cornered me that behind me was already a table here in our bedroom. Pagkatapos ay nilapit niya ang mukha niya sa akin. Napapikit na lang naman ako. I already know what he's about to do. Ganito naman kasi siya madalas. At kapag nakita na niyang pumapayag na ako ay saka naman niya ako tuluyang hahalikan sa labi ko...

"Thank you." then he told me after he kissed me.

Tumingin din naman ako sa mga mata niya habang magkalapit pa rin ang mga mukha namin sa isa't isa. Pagkatapos ay ngumiti na lang din ako. He's probably thanking me for Anya, kahit wala pa naman talaga akong nagagawa para sa anak niya. But it was enough to motivate me to do more for his daughter and him...

"You're welcome." I just smilingly told him. Then he just also kissed me once again on my lips that I just closed my eyes back again to feel his lips on mine...

"Just tell me if she's misbehaving around you..." Harrison said after.

Kumunot naman ang noo ko sa kaniya. Pagkatapos ay umiling ako. "No. I think Anya's a really well-behaved girl." I said as I smiled.

At nakita kong ngumiti na rin sa akin si Harrison pagkatapos.

And then we brought Anya to an amusement park when Sunday came like promised. At wala nga rin ginawang trabaho si Harrison ngayong linggo. And he just spent the day with us.

And I think that Anya liked it! Kasi nakita ko na rin ang ngiti niya habang pinapasyal namin siya ng Daddy niya.

"She's a pretty kid." I said as we watched Anya looking for toys or things that she wanted inside the amusement park's souvenir shop after.

"She looked just like my sister..." Harrison said while also watching Anya.

Napabaling naman ako sa kaniya sa sinabi niya.

And now that he mentioned it, ay parang ngayon ko lang din iyon halos naisip. I've already seen Harrison's older sister in photos that we have in the mansion. And she was beautiful. At, oo nga na parang magkamukha sila ni Anya...

Although it's possible that your child can look like your sibling just like that they can as well take after your parents.

Bumaling na sa amin si Anya pagkatapos na niyang makapili ng gusto niyang stuffed toy doon sa shop. Agad din naman akong ngumiti sa kaniya nang makita kong bumaling siya sa amin ni Harrison. "Bayaran mo na." I told him.

Sumunod naman si Harrison sa sinabi ko at nakikita kong lumapit na siya kay Anya...

And now that I look at him with Anya, I just thought that Harrison looked more like Anya's uncle instead of the child's dad...

But I also shook my head right away. What am I even thinking.

But that's when I started having my doubts, despite that I also trust Harrison...

Minsan kasi ay may pakiramdam na ako na para bang hindi naman niya talaga totoong anak si Anya... Although it's an absurd thought, I know...

But he was also the one who gave me that idea...
