CW: guns

(1st Person PoV: Tubbo's)

"Welcome welcome!" A guy at the door said. "I'm sure you have your invitations?"

The guys I was with, (Ted, Schlatt and Charlie) held up their police badges and I looked around for mine.

I eventually found it and held it up.

"Right this way," the guy opened the door.

"Wonder what the boss wants us to do here? There's maximum security here," Charlie wondered.

"The head of the company, XD, is a bit paranoid and wants the police to mingle around with the guests. That's what the boss said," Ted explained.

"As long as we don't have to listen to Minx drone on about her day and her complains, then we'll be fine," Schlatt said.

We walked over next to an artifact to wait for the auction to begin.

I fiddled around with my fingers. I was nervous.

This was my first ever stakeout I guess.

I'm mainly off arresting people and helping the locals. I barely use a weapon even when I'm arresting someone.

I'm not one for sitting around and wait for crime to happen. That's more of the Chuckle Sandwich job.

Don't really know why the boss thought it would be a good idea for me to come along with them.

"Ok boys, remember. We have to be careful when handling our gun. Only shoot when the suspect resists and even then, shoot to hurt not to kill. And don't shoot innocents," Ted explained.

He is the leader of their group.

"Guys I am prepared. I got medical supplies, and I even got our safety vests! No need to worry about a gun injury when I'm around,". Charlie assured us.

He is the second in command and the more medically trained out of all of us.

"And Schlatt don't get too trigger happy. The boss gave you a bad lecture about it, last time," Ted told him.

"I'm not going to get trigger happy, my god! When was the last time I ever got trigger happy?" Schlatt groaned.

"How about that one time you threaten a guy after he claims that you don't really love your cat?" Ted suggested.

"He was asking for it! I do love Jambo, he was acting like a d*ck," Schlatt explained.

"Doesn't help your case," I piped up.

"Shut up Tubbo."

"No."

"F*ck you."

Schlatt is the weapons expert and got top marks while he was training at the academy.

Too bad, he gets very trigger happy but shhhh. You didn't hear that from me.

As for me...

"I don't think we need to worry! After all, we got Genius Kid Cop on our side," Charlie said, happily.

"I don't know why everyone came up with that name," I groaned.

"But it does suit you," Schlatt pointed out.

"I'm 18, what the hell? I understand if I was like 10 but that was years ago," I explained.

"Shh, the auction is starting," Ted shushed us.

Everyone went silent as a man with green and cyan robes and wearing a mask walked up and tapped on the microphone.

"Welcome one and all, to TakenCorp! I am your humble host and head of TakenCorp, XD! And I welcome you to our auction. I would like to start with this beauty of a gem right here," XD explained.

"He sure knows how to draw in a crowd," Charlie muttered as a few people brought up a stand and unveiled a large and bright blue diamond and a lot of people 'oooh'ed and 'ahhh'ed.

"Looks like any old diamond. What gives?" I murmured to myself.

My question got answered as XD spoke up again.

"This diamond was found at the ruins of an old castle and our top gemologists and historians determined that it came from old Victorian times. This is just one of many treasures that we found," XD explained.

I see, I thought.

"Now let us start with the gem. Do I hear 1,000?" XD asked.

Some people raised their paddles with a number on it.

I zone out for a bit until I heard a loud noise.

"Sold to the woman with pink hair!" XD exclaimed.

The pink haired woman smiled at the man next to her who had brown hair with a green streak in it who smiled back at her. They must be married based on the rings in their fingers.

"That's the first. From what I heard, there are four other items up for auction. We don't care much about the other three but the last one is one that we need to watch for," Ted told us.

"What is this last item?" I asked.

"I thought Schlatt told you about it. I specifically asked him to tell you," Ted glared at him.

"I did! Tubbo, did you forget?" Schlatt asked.

"Ummm...maybe," I shrugged.

That was my one flaw as a cop.

I was good at bringing criminals in and helping the locals but when given missions like this, I forget the most important things like the macguffin. Or in this case, the auction item.

Ted let out a sigh.

"Here I'll explain," he said as the second item was being send out.

"Queen Marie Antoinette's necklace. The one thing that led to her demise. It's been years since anyone has actually seen it, only being resurfaced sometime ago before getting stolen by a gentleman thief named Lupin. No one has been able to find him since then and was even rumored to be dead," Ted explained as the second item was sold and the third one was coming out.

"So, how come TakenCorp has her necklace now?" I asked.

"That we don't know. However, there is a rumor that Lupin left his legacy behind to some people in the form of a book series. It's easy to pass it off as fiction but those people who understand Lupin, know it's much more that fiction. They're not related to him since there is no confirmation of Lupin's family, hell we're not even sure if that's even his real name, but they find themselves a bit of a connection to him. There has been multiple accounts of gentleman, gentlewoman, gentlethems thieves appearing in history and yet, none has been captured. From the UK to France to Japan to the United States, there has been thieves who have done it like Lupin. The book series are banned from local libraries and bookstores but if you know where to look, you can purchase a Lupin book," Ted explained before taking a deep breath and drinking some water that we packed earlier.

"Ok that's great and all but what does this have to do with the necklace?" I asked.

"The boss thinks that there will be a resurface of a Lupin thief. It always starts with an important necklace and since this was the first one, I'm guessing that this Lupin thief wouldn't mind making their debut here," Ted explained.

"The last one disappeared 16 years ago so I guess somewhat recently, they have been popping up," Schlatt added on.

"Guys, I think they're done with the third item," Charlie pointed out.

"Sold to the man with the Irish accent and green hair!" XD exclaimed.

"Let's go!" The green hair Irish man said happily.

At long last, the fourth item appeared.

The same people who brought out the previous stands, brought it out and unveiled it to show the bright and prestige necklace.

"This is Queen Marie Antoinette's necklace. The unfortunate thing that caused her demise and stolen from the dreaded gentleman thief known as Lupin. But our best men have been able to find it and now it will make its resurface again," XD explained.

There were excited murmurs among the audience.

"Now, we're going to start more expensive than usual so please be wary," XD warned.

"Do you guys hear that?" Charlie asked suddenly.

"Hear what?" Ted asked.

"I thought I heard footsteps," Charlie replied.

"Schlatt. Charlie. Go check it out and be careful," Ted ordered and they nodded.

"You don't think that the boss' theory is right. About a thief? A Phantom Thief?" I asked.

"It's probably nothing but we can never be too sure," Ted assured him.

I sure hope it's nothing.

"20,000? Anyone? How about we cut it down to 16,000? Would that please anyone?" XD asked and some people laughed.

I don't know why that's funny.

"How about...," XD started but then, the lights went out.

"The hell!" I cried as everyone began to panic.

There was a small light coming from next to me. Ted must have his flashlight out.

He motioned me to go to the front and I followed him.

"Everyone calm down! The police is here!" He shouted.

"Oh thank god!" Someone said.

Then the lights turned on again.

I looked around to see if anything has changed and something was different.

"Tubbo, what's wrong?" Ted asked as I tapped his shoulder to get his attention.

"The necklace."

"Huh?"

"It's gone."

"No! Where's the necklace!" XD shouted.

He seemed to noticed as well.

"Someone stole it. Charlie, Schlatt, what's your status? Charlie? Schlatt?" Ted asked through his walkie-talkie.

Nothing but static.

"Up there!" A person with red and black fluffy hair pointed.

There was person in red and wearing a top hat and a masquerade mask.

In their gloved hand, was the necklace.

Guess the boss was right after all.

"You! Bring that necklace right here and now!" XD shouted.

"Yeah I don't think so. It's mine now," the thief taunted. They sounded like a young male.

"Tubbo, go! Now!" Ted shouted and I nodded.

I ran upstairs and towards the thief.

He was taunted everyone while I was running.

I grabbed my gun and held it in his direction.

"Freeze! You're under arrest!" I shouted.

"Me? Under arrest? I don't think so, you're going to have to catch me first," the thief said.

He was standing on the railing, now that I was closer to him.

His feet slipped and he fell.

"Crap!" I shouted but there was no need to worry.

He seemed to planned it.

Just hanging from the ceiling are these weird ball things. I think they may be for decorations.

They are being held up by wires and that's what he used to escape.

The thief jumped off the railing, held his hands out to grab onto the wires and swung away, laughing.

"You won't get away with this!" I shouted and looked around.

I spotted a construction stand and jumped onto it.

A weird feeling of pain shot through my legs and I winced.

Yeah shouldn't have done that, I thought.

"Get back here!" I heard Ted shout.

The thief swung out the window and Ted ran after him through the door.

There was an uproar though and I had to calm it all down.

"The Police are useless now!"

"Ma'am calm down...,"

"XD got robbed under our noses!"

"Sir please...,"

"Want to borrow my knives to catch this person?"

"Krow no!"

"You can't tell me what to do Ori!"

"Everyone!" I ran up to where the items were at and grabbed the microphone.

"Listen, this situation is bad but we were caught off guard and I'll admit that. However, I swear that we will NOT rest until we catch this Phantom Thief! And we will get the necklace back!" I explained loud and clear.

Some people murmured amongst themselves before clapping loudly.

I sighed in relief.

I then spotted Ted standing in the door way with something in his hand.

He motioned me to come with him.

I got off the platform and went over to him.

"Did you catch him?" I asked but he sadly shook his head.

"All I managed to grab was this piece of paper that he threw at me," Ted showed me it.

The paper read: Robbed under ya nose! ♦️Kaitō Raccoon ♦️

"Kaitō Raccoon?" I asked.

"I don't know. It might be his name or a code name that he goes by. We need to find Charlie and Schlatt," Ted went up the stairs and I followed him.

We found Schlatt and Charlie tied up and knocked out.

"Damn it...what happened to you guys," Ted murmured as he went to untie them.

In the corner of my eye, I spotted something red. I went over to it and saw that it was a feather.

What's a feather doing here? I wondered.

"Tubbo, come and give me a hand," Ted called out.

"Uhh Ted?"

"Yeah?"

I held up the feather in his direction.

"I think I found a clue or something."

I thought of this Au while listening to a Super Sentai opening and I was thinking: what if this but BenchTrio?

So that's pretty much why this exists!
