Chapter 52 | Caught...
I really don't think before I speak or do. And I also wasn't a good listener either because despite an entire night of Keith trying to tell me otherwise, I still ended up in a plane beside him and we were going back to the place I once called home.
"Princess, you don't have to do this." Keith said for the millionth time. I sent him a glare. "Fine, but it's going to be alright."
"Do you think he would want to see me?" I asked him.
"Of course, he would. You're his daughter." I nodded my head at him.
He was right, he had to be. It was almost going to be a year since my dad passed away and I was still too guilty and caught up with the things I did to face reality. I near I wasn't ready for this but I had to do it. I was independent and I had to prove myself.
"Can you come to his grave me with? You can go back to the car if things are uncomfortable for you. I just don't want to walk in there alone." I said as I looked at Keith.
Keith smiled and took my hand in his. "I won't be uncomfortable. I'm here for you." He said and kissed my knuckles. I smiled back at him and rested my head against the window as I closed my eyes.
Keith had a friend pick us up from the airport. I almost forgot that he lived there some time ago. My aunt was currently using the house my dad left behind and I managed to convince my mom to let me stay in a hotel since I didn't want to meet my aunt. I didn't hate her, but I didn't like her either and I left it at that.
Once we reached our hotel I went to my room and Keith dropped his bags in his own before leaving to rent a car. I suggested using Uber but he said it was too much trouble. After everything that happened between me and Bellamy, I didn't feel like arguing with anyone so I quietly nodded at whatever he said until he was gone.
I opened my suitcase and fished out all the candy I brought with myself. I ate more than half my stash before I heard a knock on my door. I reluctantly got up and opened it. Keith smiled as he played with the keys in his hand. "Ready to go?"
I nodded my head and quickly picked up my purse and put on my shoes. I followed Keith to the parking and scrunched my nose up in disgust when I saw what we were riding.
"I should've listen to you." He sighed and opened the door of the bright green car. "I feel like Mr. Fucking Bean." He said as he started the engine.
I laughed and nodded my head. "Bean, Sabine." I mocked and repeated for a while. We only turned I few corners until Keith slapped his hand against my mouth.
"Stop it already!" He laughed.
"Okay, okay. I'll stop." I mumbled and laughed as I pulled his hand away. There was something so much fun in annoying Keith. "You know this is exactly how I feel when you and Natasha fight."
Keith chuckled as he shock his head. "What about now?" He asked and I noticed he parked in front of the cemetery.
I took a deep breath and bit my lip. "I need to move on Keith. I'm ready to."
I don't how long we were there but the sun had set when I decided to leave. I was clinging onto Keith for support as we walked out of the cemetery. Many tears were shed and many confessions had been made but I felt a weight lift off my chest. When we sat in the car, Keith handed me a bottle of water from his backpack that was lying in the backseat. I had hiccups from sobbing and I almost downed the entire bottle before realizing that he was probably thirsty too. I stopped and passed the bottle to him, he smiled and thanked me before drinking from it himself.
I rested my head back and massaged my temples. I had a slight headache and I was out of energy. I turned to Keith again. He was fiddling with the cap of the water bottle. "Can we get food? I'm starving."
He nodded his said and put the water bottle in the back. I heard the some of wrappers and raised my eyebrow at at him. Only one thing came to my mind, candy.
I was disappointed to see just a packet that contained a small muffin. I frowned at Keith. "What is this?"
He rolled his eyes at me and threw it on my lap as he started the engine of the car. "Take it or leave it. The candy shop was closed and this is the normal thing I could find."
"Excuses," I mumbled as ripped the wrapper and munched down the muffin. "I want two Big Macs now." I told him.
He laughed, "Whoever finishes first gets a third."
"Challenge accepted."
We drove to the nearest McDonald's and got take out. Then we went to a park nearby and sat on a bench. Since it was dark, there weren't any kids here anymore. It was like they were replaced by the teens from the wrong side of the town. It was an unspoken rule, the park belonged to everyone from there during the dark. They did whatever they wanted and always outnumbered the cops - no matter how much force came but then again, these people had men on the inside so couldn't ever get into trouble.
This was the sick reality of this town. Which was one of the reasons why everyone went to the country club. Yet here we were, sitting on a park bench being stared at by people while we ate our food in silence. I didn't know about Keith but I preferred being away from country club. There were just too many people who would say 'it separates us from them.' That was Bullshit.
"So, are you looking forward to meeting some friends?" Keith asked me.
I barked out a laugh earning a few more glances in my direction. They knew who I was. Trace made sure of it and it was only a matter of time before something would happen but Keith and I promised to ignore it all for the two days we were here.
I shrugged my shoulders. Those friends were also another reason why I didn't want to go to the country club. They would ridicule me and I knew it wouldn't end nicely. It never did. "Are you?"
Keith mimicked my response. "No, I think we both are outcasts here."
I nodded my head as I munched down on my burger and then quickly sipping on my drink since I took a bigger than usual bite. "I can't believe I liked this place. I'm so glad dad got a house closer to the city. I only came here when I..." I trailed off because it was better left unspoken.
"Trust me, I am too. I always snorted shit under that tree. Every other other at 3 I'm the morning a guy would bring me a bag." He pointed at a tree not far from us. I turned to him in shock.
"Lets go somewhere else. It's just torture hitting here." I said as I stood up and tried to collect everything that was scattered around me.
Keith grabbed my hand and pulled me back down. "I've accepted it and now it's just a thing in the past. Plus, it makes me proud of myself." He grinned as he took the last bite of his burger. Oh shit.
"I'm proud of you too and all but Keith, that third burger is mine." I glared at him shortly as I sped up eating.
He laughed and stuck his tongue out at me. "Princess, I've already ate that."
I checked the bag and found the empty container lying at the bottom of the bag. He tricked me. "When?" My voice was low and I practically growled.
"When I was waiting for you to get back from the bathroom."
"But, yo- you could've told me! Cheater!"
He raised his hands in surrender as I smacked him a couple of times. He was enjoying this which only made me more furious. "I was going to tell you better I couldn't help it. I was really hungry."
When hitting him didn't have any effect I finished the last piece of my burger and wiped my hands with tissue before crossing my arms over my chest and looking straight ahead.
"Aww," He cooed, pinching my cheeks. "You lost anyways."
"I was gonna fight you for it."
"And you think you're faster than me?" He raised his brow as he leaned closer to me to he could be in my face. I hated him. "We both know I'm the one that goes fast."
"My bad, I forgot you cum fast." I rolled my eyes.
"I do not." He exclaimed, taking too much offense. I smirked. "I was talking about-"
"Does it matter? You traitor."
"You're no fun." He said, "I'll get you whatever you want tomorrow."
"It's not like you let me pay neither does Bel." I pressed my lips together in a firm line after saying his name. I hated how he was constantly in my mind.
Keith nudged my arm with his elbow. "This is the part where you tell me what happened."
I slumped my shoulders and rested my back on the bench. I closed my eyes and wondered whether or not I should tell him. "It's nothing."
"Really?" He asked, leaning towards me. "I thought you would want to do this with a loved one. Someone you trust completely."
"I hate to flatter you but you're one of those people."
"Yeah, but way didn't take Bellamy? Wouldn't this be the perfect getaway for you two?" He asked again.
"We had a fight. I was jealous and he didn't like it." I shrugged. "And now, here I am, trying to prove that my life doesn't revolve around him."
Keith looked at me dead in the eyes. His face almost showed no emotion. "Don't you think you're overreacting with this whole thing."
I shoved him away and shook my head. "No!" I exclaimed. "I wanted to do this, it's just his bad luck that he screwed up before I even made the plan."
"Overreacting," he sang lowly. I glared him but his was unfazed. "You did tell him you're here, right?"
I bit my lip as I looked at him. I didn't think I needed to. "I'll tell him everything when I'm back home."
"That's not how it works. You know he can be...possessive." He cringed at his choice of word but didn't correct himself.
"And when I want him all for myself it's wrong." I said. "I'm either annoying, jealous or crazy."
"Then both of you should take a step back."
"Oh, we took several steps back." I said bitterly, earning a couple of glances in our direction. Keith tugged on my arm as he stood up and collected his things. I followed behind him knowing it was better to get out of here before we got too much unwanted attention. "Can we just drop this?" I said as we sat in the car. "It's not like I can hide from him forever."
Keith reluctantly agreed to my request and we drove to the hotel in silence. I checked my phone just before I went to sleep. Natasha kept updating me on what was happening back home. She said they were planning on going home since there was nothing left to do in the woods. I sent a few texts back describing my day and then I finally closed my eyes. We had another day to spend here and then finally we'd go back home the day after tomorrow.
The next day we ordered room service and stayed in until the afternoon. I wanted to look around town a bit and shared stories with Keith. He in turn showed me spots he vandalized. Turns out he was one of the people who drew horrific things on the doors of my old school. We stopped at a coffee shop near the town square.
I walked in knowing I would meet someone from my old school and those people were exactly who I saw as Keith and I placed our order and turned to find a place to sit. I felt eyes on me and knew I had been caught.
A/N:
Can I make it my new year's resolution to complete this book by the end of January? And what are yours?
There's some drama coming up in the next chapter and it's mostly written. Just connecting some scenes together.
