Chapter 38 | Bad News

Everyone tells me I'm a heavy sleeper but one thing was clear, I couldnt sleep through a gunshot. I rose from my bed immediately but with my trembling body, I couldn't do much.

The gunshot. I heard a gunshot. I shot out of bed and opened the door of the room. I could hear someone yelling and faint cries coming from downstairs but one thing I heard crystal clear, Trace was coming.

I knew what was going on. We had been found. I closed my eyes for a brief minute to pull myself together. I always forced every bad memory out of my head but this time I let it be.

This time, I was going to fight back.

Being light on my feet always came in handy but what I really needed was a weapon. The voices became more clear as I peaked through the doorway of the lounge. I held back a gasp when I saw Leon standing there with two guns in his hands. Keith, Natasha and Bellamy stood there helplessly.

My eyes met Bellamy's and it was hard not to notice the blood trickling down the side of his temple. Keith engaged Leon while Bellamy motioned me to leave. I wasn't going to leave them. I was going to stand my ground and fight till I could. Just a few feet away from me was one of those rods used for the fireplace.

Leon kept repeating the same thing. He wanted to know where I was. I found it stupid how he didn't bother to look around.

I quickly grabbed the rod and it made sound as I pulled it against its case. Leon turned around just in time for the rod to collide with his head. Bellamy jumped on him from behind causing him to fall. It was all so sudden. Keith joined Bellamy as they hit Leon. Natasha ran over to me and hugged me tightly but my eyes stayed glued to Leon who had fallen over. His movements were slow as he was being kicked around and punched. Bellamy paused for a minute and our eyes met. I didn't want him to stop what he was doing and he understood that because he violently kicked Leon in the ribs.

And I found it satisfying.

"Get the bags, we have to leave." Keith said as he moved away from Leon to grab the guns on the floor.

"What do we do with his body, he's not dead." Natasha said as we gathered around the door.

"Throw him in the snow and get the fuck out of hear before Trace does." I blurted out. Bellamy shrugged and started to pull Leon's body by the hair all the way outside. Leaving a trail of blood as he did so.

Keith was already in the drivers seat and I waited for Bellamy. Natasha got in the passenger and I was glad I got to sit with Bellamy.

"That was brave," Bellamy commented as we drove further from the Lake house. I smiled at him but he didn't look happy at all. "And the stupidest thing I have ever seen." He banged his fist on the back of Natasha's seat.

"Calm down. We have Trace to worry about." Keith said. I saw his tight grip on the stirring wheel and I put my hand on his shoulder.

"There doesn't have to be a we this time. Leon wanted me." I said.

All three of them glared at me and if it wasn't for the empty road then we would've hit a car for sure.

"We stay together."  Bellamy told me as he took my hand in his.

"And do what?" I asked him. He sighed and ran a hand over his face. He winced when he touched the cut on his forehead. The blood dried up but the cut still looked fresh. I carefully stroked my thumb under the cut and let it rest on his cheek bone.

"We'll figure something out." He kissed my palm and I scooted closer to him. Keith was driving extremely fast but at least he wasn't driving like he did in the races.

"I've got it. We can hide in the crowd at the street racing place. No one will suspect us to go there." I said as I slightly beamed with excitement.

"That's a stu—" Keith cut his sister off. "Clever idea. I'll get Derek to arrange something but we can stay there for a while." He said.

I nodded my head in agreement and looked at Bellamy for his opinion. "Just one hour."  He said.

It turned out to be the longest hour of my life. We sat in the small storage room of the pub thanks to the boss guy Keith and Bellamy knew. We had our orders brought to us there, there was no compromising on food. At least not from my part.

Bellamy kept entering and leaving the storage room while Keith stood right outside the door and talked on the phone in a hushed voice.

I was given a not-so-pocket knife to keep. "Slash don't stab," was the instructions I got from Bellamy.

"It's time. Let's go." Bellamy said as he stormed inside for the millionth time. Natasha and I jumped all of a sudden but regained our composure quickly.

As we headed outside there was a lot of panic and chaos. I looked around at the scrambling crowd and then I heard the faint sounds of sirens as the screaming stopped. I was being pushed from all directions and within seconds I lost my hold from Bellamy's hand. After that I completely lost my friends but I kept trying to get to the car.

I wasn't sure if I was yanked or pushed but I ended up in a foreign car. My eyes shut closed as it happened and I peeped through my eyelids when I felt the vehicle move.

"Surprise,"

I was beyond surprised.

Trace's silky black hair fell on his forehead as he turned his head towards me. He flashed me his dangerous smile and my heart sank deeper.

I was in the passenger seat of his car while he drove. It was just the two of us and I didn't know if that made me more or less scared. I didn't need to check to know if the doors and windows are locked or not. He was always one step ahead, just like he was right now.

The knife was in my right pocket but I was too scared to reach for it. He was too fast and strong for me and I had to use my one chance wisely. Right now wasn't the time, a victorious smirk was plastered on his face and he knew everything was in his favor right now.

"I can't wait to get my hands on you." He said as his eyes wandered my body. "I have a lot planned for us and you can enjoy it if you behave." He said.

I was frozen. Inside and out, my body wasn't responding to anything. I was only breathing and I wish I couldn't. I wish anything would happen to take me away, far away from him.

"I was betting on Keith to out you but looks like we did his sister a lot better." He laughed.

I would punch him but I was frozen. So I blinked, a couple of time before I realized he was serious. But I couldn't trust him, no. Natasha wouldn't ever do that to me and I told him that. "She would never do that to me!"

"But she did, didn't she?" he smirked.

"What do you want from me? I thought it was over!" I yelled.

"It's over when I say it is and you'll find out soon enough. " He said.

But I didn't. I wanted to combust right here because I was too afraid of what he'll do it me. Trace was a psychopath and I couldn't let him torture me.

He frantically drove through the quieter routes of the city. And as we passed a few signs I recognized it as a place near the hospital mom worked at. He took a sharp turn and the side of his car scratched against the wall yet he laughed when he was my scared expression.

Then I thought of something. I didn't have much time to assess the risk or think it though. I just knew that maybe this was my chance to escape.

I started screaming at the top if my lungs and Trace cursed at me and pulled my hair back. "Shut up you bitch!" but I didn't. I screamed louder as if it was possible and he slapped his hand on my mouth.

In one swift move I opened the picket knife Bellamy gave me and slashed his arm it. He cursed and pulled it back and that when I reached for the stirring wheel and turned it.

Because of the speed, he couldn't stop the car and my grip was firm, actually like my life depended on it. We crashed straight into a building.

I was losing consciousness and I couldn't make sense of anything because of my blurry vision and the cracks in my glasses. The airbags, red stains and was that my blood?

I opened my eyes again when I felt something move next to me. A figure. I tried to call out to them but I couldn't make a sound. My body began to ache as I saw the figure disappearing into the darkness.

"Open your eyes ma'am. You're going  to be okay. Just keep your eyes open. Stay with me." Someone kept blabbering as bright lights, red and blue reflected on an unknown man. The sounds of sirens, people and a piercing ringing in my ears was all I could register.

I tried to keep my eyes open but my pain was too much and I couldn't fight the urge anymore.

Beep,

Beep,

Beep...

The annoying sound wouldn't stop. I opened my eyes and regretted it the second I did.

"Sweetie, you're alright now." She sounded like my mom so I slowly opened my eyes again.

"Mom?" I asked when I saw a blurry figure in front of me. "You're safe now." She said while nodding her head.

"What happened? Where am I?" I blinked my eyes but I still couldn't see anything clearly.

"You had a car accident and now you're in the hospital." She answered.

A few flashbacks came into my mind but it was too chaotic to describe. Suddenly two large figures came into the room. One wore something white while the other wore something dark.

"Miss Jane, I'm Dr. Robert. I'm just going to do a checkup and then you can talk to Detective Carson here."

Mom moved away from me and toward the detective. The doctor stood bear me with a clipboard. He was observing the machines next to me and noted something down. Then he turned to me.

"We've given you sedatives which will explain why you probably feel numb." He told me.

My eyes traveled down my body as I was still lying on the bed. My arm was wrapped in bandages and so was my leg. I could feel another wrapped around my head. I used my good to touch my face. It felt swollen from the left side and I could feel a few cuts too.

"Two fractures and three broken ribs. You have a few minor cuts from the glass but overtime the scars will go." He explained and I could see him smile at the end.

"I've prescribed you a few pain killers as well as others..." He went on to describe which to take when but I sort of slept through it.

I could only focus on one thing, my statement. What do I tell the police? Where is Keith and Bellamy?

"Honey, you need to give the police your statement. Tell them everything that happened and don't hold back on any information." My mom lightly shook my good shoulder.

I gave her a puzzled look because I didn't know what to day. Mom kept a straight face and I didn't know how to respond.

"Miss Jane, I just have a few questions to ask you. I promise it won't take long." Detective Carson said.

Was I supposed to tell them that it started with Leon Wright's arrival? That we hid from him only to be discovered? If he was dead, was I one of his killers? Was I supposed to tell them that Trace kidnapped me and I purposely hit the car into the building?

Only the last thing made sense but what was I supposed to say when they asked me how it happened or who was Trace to me. I didn't want to go to jail.

"I don't remember." I choked out before Detective Carson could ask me anything. He sighed and so did my mother.

"Please, try to remember. The kidnapped got away before we reached the crime scene and the sooner we know who it was, the better will be our chances at finding him." He said.

I exhaled the breath I was holding in when I realized he bought my fake amnesia story.

"My head hurts." I winced as I closed my eyes. "I can't remember. I just remember lights flashing as I was bring carried away." I winced again dramatically and my mom quickly came to my aid.

"We can do this later." She told me. "When she feels better." She said to him.

He glanced at me before looking at my mom again and nodding his head.

"Can we at least have an officer outside? What if the kidnapper comes back?" My mom asked him as they stood by the door.

"According to the statements of the other three kids, it isn't needed ma'am. You're daughters safe here." He said.

Her hands exasperated in the air. "At least get these delinquents out of here!" she said. Her voice raised in a warning manner.

"That's not in my authority, my apologies ma'am."  He said before leaving the room.

Mom turned to me again and when she came close, I could see the worried look on her face.

"Blake, who did this? You won't lie to your mother, right? Just tell me how it happened." She said.

This was my time to defend my friends because if she didn't let them in then I could majorly screw everything up.

"Mom, I c-can't remember." My voice cracked as I actually remembered everything. "I-I, Bellamy and Keith were trying to protect me a-and I don't know what happened then." I started to cry and as my body shook, I felt a little pain. I wanted to add Natasha to the list but I couldn't. Trace got to me afterall.

"Mom, can I see them? Brianna, Bellamy and everyone else." I asked her.

"Sweetie, you can't —" I knew what she was going to say to I cut her off. "He tried to fucking protect me! he cut his forehead!" I yelled at her.

She stood a few feet away now and her face was blurry so I couldn't see reaction.

"You're hiding something. you remember everything don't you! Blake, I'm saying this as anyone who cares about you. Don't hide anything. Tell me the truth, tell the police the truth. You're going to endanger yourself by lying." She said as she paced back and forth.

I shook my head. "Maybe I'll remember when I see my friends. I'm scared mom, I just need the people I love here." I said softly.

She sighed and left the room. A few seconds later the door flew open and everyone barged inside.

I heard squeals and greetings and I winced as my sister hugged me tightly. She loosened her grip and looked at me.

"It's been two whole days, you scared the hell out of us." She said. I laughed at her and gave her a kiss on the cheek before mouthing "Sorry".

"Move over, it's my turn!" I heard Eliza say. She smelled like her usual chanel perfume and I gladly sniffed her as she hugged me.

Chris was right behind her and her tapped my head before hugging me. "I'm so glad you're alive." He said as he pulled away from me. "You have a lot of explaining to do." I told my eyes at his seriousness and gave him a goofy grin instead.

"Skywalker! Hug me!" I commanded him. He smiled and put his big arms around me. "I still hate you for cheating," I giggled. "You do that." he told me as he stood next to the others in the room.

Keith came to me next. I smiled knowing he was safe. He took my hand in his and kissed it. "I'm sorry Princess. Please forgive me." He said. He inched closer to me and I saw the emotions in his eyes.

"It's not your fault." I told him. "It is. Natasha told Trace. She came clean about it. I can't believe I didn't notice her take my phone." He whispered to me. He was lucky that Eliza and Chris walked out of the room and Luke and Brianna were talking. I couldn't see my boyfriend however. "Trace told me. Keith, what happened was my fault but I don't think I want to talk to her." I told him.

"She's waiting outside. I told her to stay away but I can't keep her far. I need to protect her." I nodded my head and touched his face with my good hand. "You need to stay away from me." I whispered.

"Never," he said as somebody pulled him away.

"Get well soon!" Harry jumped with a grin on his face. What made me happy were the balloons Eliza brought in. A beautiful rainbow of balloons. I beamed at them but groaned as my body ached.

Then I noticed Chris walking inside with his jacket weirdly placed in his hands. He bit back a grin and looked between me and his jacket. Harry slowly pulled it, revealing a pink box.

"Assorted cupcakes for you from yours truly," he bowed and placed the box on the coffee table in the corner of the room where everyone began to sit. "Thank you!" I drawled and hugged him with one hand.

"It's time for a mind-blowing kiss," I said as I bit my lip waiting for Bellamy's response. He was leaning against the closed door. His head tilted upwards and our eyes locked.

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault." He said. I shook my head at how stupid he was being. He was really just a third wheel in the story.

"I'm still waiting for my kiss." I said as I puckered my lips at him. He dragged a stool next to my bed and sat on it. I could tell he was observing me. His head was faced towards my body, the cast on my leg and arm was on full display.

"Kiss me," I prompted him. His head snapped towards mine and his hand slowly made it way to my cheek. I put my hand on his and stared into his eyes.

"Just kiss her already." Harry said. Everyone laughed at that except for Bellamy.

"A-are you going to break up with m-me?" Just the thought of it was hurting me and tears pricked my eyes. "No!" he blurted out.

I left a weight being lifted off my chest when he said that. "I just failed. I had to keep you safe and I couldn't and look what he did to you." He said.

"I did this to myself." I shook my head as I spoke. "I don't know what he was going to do and he was scary me. So I used the knife you gave me and saved myself. But I think he's gone. Oh my, he isn't in here, right?" My heartbeat raised again and this time to an alarming rate.

Our foreheads were barely touching as we spoke in really low voices. "We checked everywhere. He's not here." He said and I relaxed a little. "Jane, you need to tell the police that we were taking a detour and stopped to refuel as we were headed back home. While we were doing that, some guy with a gun robbed us and then took you as hostage because he was scared that he would get caught." He told me firmly. I nodded my head slightly because my neck began to hurt. I couldn't help but feel like he talked like this to kids too. He wiped a stray tear of mine and kissed my cheek.

"Can you kiss me now? The way I want to be kissed." I asked him.

I knew he was fighting the urge to smile but he failed. It only made the kiss better and my heart beat faster. He was doing most of the work but I had a good reason for lazily kissing him. He didn't seem to mind because he had a bright smile on his face when he pulled back which was very much contagious.

"I promise I won't let you down again." He said. "Then kiss me one more time." I told him.

A small laugh escaped his mouth before he pressed his lips against mine. It was everything I was craving. My stomach was doing somersaults and there was a hest between us. I placed my good hand around his neck. He had goosebumps wherever my hand touched him and I kissed him a little harder. We were way past sparks flying. Electricity raced through us and it was like we gave each other energy.

"I ran up a flight of stairs just to find my patients erratic heartbeat being caused by a boy kissing her!" The nurse said over the loud chuckles in the background.

I pulled away and Bellamy glanced at her before turning back to me to kiss me again.

What can I say, I'm with the bad boy.

A/N:

Sorry for the horrible hospital scene. I've only been admitted once at a children's hospital as a kid. When I woke up from my surgery all I did was get barbies as a get well soon gift and eat a ton of popsicle sticks, so bare with this please.

I don't know if this adds up or not medically but hey, it's fiction so like, anything can happened right. She's also supposed to be a little goofy because of the medicines. Honestly, shame on me for considering to go into med school after writing this. Hahaha.
