Chapter 57 - First Birthday

13th of February, 1998
Brooklyn is 32, Janet is 31, and Michael is 39

Michael: "Just a bit higher, Mike," Brooke said. "So it can be perfect."

"Like that?" I asked, stretching my arm.

"Yes! Thank you."

I climbed down the latter as Janet yelled something from the kitchen.

"What?" my wife yelled back.

"I need help with the cake!"

"Oh, God. Help me up." Brooklyn mumbled, holding her stomach.

I took her hands and pulled her on her feet.

"You go help Janet, and I'll wake up our sleepy little boy." she said.

"Can I get a kiss first?" I questioned, puckering my lips.

She rolled her eyes and placed a soft kiss on them.

"Now go! Everyone will be here soon!"

~

Brooklyn: "Good morning, baby boy." I said, picking Prince up.

"Ma-ma..." he whined and hid his face in my shoulder.

"Come on, we need to get you dressed."

I put him down, then went to his closet and found a cute outfit for him to wear.

"You're the cutest thing ever." I smiled.

He returned a smile.

I took his hand as I helped him walk slowly.

"There's the birthday boy!" Michael chirped when he saw us.

The doorbell rang, letting us know the first guests have arrived.

~

Michael: "Prince, smile!" I said, snapping a picture.

He laughed and dug his hand into the cake.

My silly little boy.

"Oh, he's getting his clothes all dirty." Brooke sighed.

"Dude, he's having fun! Since when are you so uptight?" Randy mumbled.

She shot him a look that I knew made him feel regretful for saying that.

My son took another bite from the cake, making Jason scoff.

"Prince, save us some!" he exclaimed.

I chuckled as he joined Prince and took some cake himself.

~

Brooklyn took a seat next to Joshua on the couch and groaned.

"I can't believe you knocked her up again, Mikey." Tito smirked, staring at her big bump.

I bit my lip as my cheeks turned hot.

"I can't believe I'll finally have a granddaughter." my father-in-law said.
He put a hand on Brooklyn's stomach, probably feeling Paris kick.

Just one more month to go.

"Okay, it's present time for Prince!" Janet announced when she walked in with a big present in her hands.

The doorbell rang loudly, catching us all off guard.

"That must be Lisa." Brooke squealed.

She got up and made her way to the door.

"You let her invite the whore, Michael?" Rebbie asked.

"I'm as unhappy about this as you are, but she really wanted to see her." I said.

My wife and Lisa were laughing and we all could hear them.

"Again?! Oh, this is so exciting!" Lisa gasped.

I mentally rolled my eyes as they entered the living room, their arms linked.

Riley and Ben followed.

"Michael!" they said together and ran to me.

I hugged them slightly.

"Oh, is this Prince? He's so cute!" Lisa said, looking at Prince who sat on mother's lap.

He did not seem like he was liking the idea of her being here, just like everyone in the room.

"I'm sure everybody knows who this is." Brooke smiled.

"Unfortunately." Joshua mumbled under his breath.

Janet looked like she was about to burst from anger.

"I'm so sorry for being late, there was a lot of traffic on the way." Lisa apologized.

"No worries." my wife told her.

"Babe," I cleared my throat. "Can I speak to you for a moment?"

She nodded, and we went into the kitchen.

~

Brooklyn: "Why is Lisa here?" Michael asked once we were away from everyone.

"Is there a problem with her being here?" I scrunched her eyebrows.

"Yes, can't you tell no one here wants her?"

"But I do. She's my friend, so I invited her to my son's first birthday. What's up with this attitude of yours, huh? I thought you liked her."

"I did, until those tabloids with us kissing on the cover came out."

"Seriously, Mike? You know she wasn't responsible for this." I rolled my eyes.

"I'm actually not so sure about that. Ever since she met me she wanted to break us apart, maybe she wanted to do it publicly for a change. Make everyone think I'm a backstabbing cheater, so no one knows what really happened."

I looked at him, appalled.

"You're being paranoid. She would never do it." I said.

"Since when do you like her so much? A little over a year ago you used to hate her, and now I get why," Michael spat. "She's a bitch. A cold-hearted bitch."

"Don't call her that! She's trying to redeem herself, okay? Why would she do it after trying so hard?" I questioned, a bit hurt myself from him calling Lisa names.

"To ruin us!"

I let out a frustrated sigh. What is wrong with him?

"I thought that you out of all people would never accuse anyone of doing something they didn't do..." I murmured, regretting it as soon as it came out of my mouth.

He looked hurt, but then his face changed into pure rage.

"You know what? I am sick and tired of you bitching around! I've had enough of doing everything to make you happy, and I will not tolerate it anymore. I want Lisa Marie Presley out my house right now, or else I'll make her leave." he screamed.

"Did- did you just call me a bitch, Michael?" I crossed my arms.

"If the shoe fits, babe."

My mouth hung open. Still shocked, I turned around and made my way out of the kitchen. I avoided my family's unsure looks, running upstairs.

Our bedroom was the last place I wanted to be, so I chose one of the spare rooms.

~

Janet: "I can't believe you, Mike. On your own son's birthday." I mumbled, following my brother up the stairs.

He ignored me and opened their bedroom door. The room was completely empty.

"She's in one of the other bedrooms." he sighed.

We checked every door until I found one that was locked.

I knocked on it. "Brooke, are you in here?"

No answer.

"Brooke." I called.

"Janet," she finally spoke. "Go. I don't want to talk to you, or Michael, or anyone else. I really just want to be alone."

"Prince is asking where his mommy went." I said.

"Then tell Michael to calm him down."

I sighed, and looked at my brother.

"Go, I'll get her out." he told me.

I obeyed, meeting Lisa at the bottom of the stairs.

"Is everything okay?" she asked.

"No, Lisa, everything is not okay," I rolled my eyes. "Maybe it's best you leave."

"If Brooke doesn't tell me to go, I'm
not leaving."

God, I want to strangle her so much. She's the reason why this whole mess started in the first place.

I bumped into her shoulder on purpose before joining the family in the living room.

~

Brooklyn: "Babe... Baby, please. I'm sorry." Michael said through the door.

Again, I ignored him. That's how it went for the half hour. He kept apologizing, but I wouldn't budge.

I heard him sigh deeply before his footsteps disappeared slowly.

Thank you.

I closed my eyes and lay back, thinking he gave up.

But suddenly I heard small knocks that interrupted my tiny moment of peace.

"Ma-ma!" Prince knocked louder.

"I think a certain birthday boy wants his momma." Michael chuckled.

"Ma-ma!" our son squealed again.

I couldn't resist going to the door and opening it. Michael held Prince in his arms, a smile on both their faces.

"Mommy's sorry for ruining your birthday." I whispered as I hugged Prince.

"And daddy's even more sorry." Michael said.

I looked in his eyes and saw that they were full of regret.

"I'm really glad you and Lisa are friends. I just can't get over the fact that people think I'm a cheater, when they don't even know the story."

I took his hand. "No one in this house thinks you're a cheater."

"I know, and that's all that matters." he smiled. "I'm sorry for yelling and calling you a bitch. I didn't mean it."

I nodded.

"I thought I was the one who has mood swings." I smirked.

Michael licked his lips and looked down at my stomach.
He then leaned in to kiss me, but I only felt a soft cheek against my lips.

Prince shoved his face so Michael would kiss his cheek instead of me.

"Prince, if you keep interrupting mommy's and daddy's kisses you'll never have a little brother or sister again." my husband laughed.

"So does this mean Lisa stays?" I questioned.

"Of course."

"Good. Her and the kids will be keeping us company for a week. I already gave her the keys to the guest house."

He narrowed his eyes at me. "Fine."

I kissed him, this time with no interruptions from our son.

~

"So it's a girl?" Lisa asked, sitting down next to me after the party was over.

"Yes, and a very annoying one." I answered and felt the baby kick again.

"Do you have a name for her?"

"No."

"Yes, we do!" Michael barged in. "Her name is Paris."

"Stop it, Mike." I warned.

"But it is!"

"I'm gonna guess you haven't reached an agreement." Lisa giggled.

"I don't like it, but he won't stop bugging me." I groaned.

"Lisa likes it." my husband wiggled his eyebrows.

I looked at her, and saw she was trying to hide a smile.
"I think it's a nice name."

"Guys!" Janet called before I got to respond. "We're heading out!"

I stood up to hug her goodbye.

"Have fun with Lisa." she said, voice full of sarcasm.

"Janet..."

"No, I mean it. Have fun."

She kissed my cheek, rubbed my bump gently, and turned to Michael.

~

Michael: Brooke laughed at something Lisa said.

"He's so adorable." Riley beamed at Prince.

Lisa laughed. "He looks just like your brother, Brooke. Except for the eyes... I wonder, where did he get those from?"

"Oh, please, don't make me embarrassed." I snickered.

"I'm not trying to."

"Yeah, right."

"Mommy," Ben yawned. "I'm tired."

"I think Prince is tired, too." Brooklyn said.

"Come on, we'll take you to the guest house." I told them.

"You guys go, I'll put him to bed."

"You sure?"

My wife nodded and picked up Prince.

"Goodnight everyone." she smiled, going upstairs.

~

"Okay, I think we're all set," Lisa said, tucking Ben into bed. "Thanks, Michael."

"Maybe it's time for me to go bac-"

"No! Michael, don't go!" Riley begged.

She was in the bed next to Benjamin's, her blue eyes sparkling.

"I'm just at the house, Riley. We'll see each other at breakfast, alright?"

"Alright."

I hugged her and Ben tightly before Lisa and I got out of the room.

We went down to the small living room. I stood a few feet away from her, scared that she might try something.

"I won't kiss you, Michael." she rolled her eyes.

"I'm sorry," I said, feeling shameful. "For calling you a cold-hearted bitch."

Lisa giggled, "It's a good thing you're cute."

I widened my eyes.

"Sorry, it slipped out. I actually wanted to tell you... I have someone new."

"Really? Who?" I asked.

"His name is Nicolas." she answered, blushing.

"That's really great, Lisa. I hope it'll work out for you." I smiled, coming closer.

"Thank you."

I went into a hug, but she stopped me.

"This feels a bit too familiar..." she sighed.

I nodded and stepped back.

"Goodnight, Michael." she said.

"Goodnight, Lisa."

~

When I returned home, Brooke wasn't in bed.

I quietly went inside Prince's room and saw she fell asleep with him in his bed.

It was way too small to fit the three of them.

I carefully peeled Prince's arms off of his mother, then took her in my arms.

She stirred and her eyes fluttered open.

"But I liked cuddling him." she whined.

"You'll have a bigger back ache in the morning, babe." I told her. She already did this a few times in the past, and each morning she complained how much her back is killing her.

I placed her on our bed, making her groan and cover herself up with the blanket.

I went to her side of the bed, where her bump was bulging through the sheets. Crouching down, I kissed her, then moved to her stomach.

"Goodnight to mommy and Paris." I whispered.

"Don't think I didn't hear that." Brooke mumbled, her eyes half open.

"Goodnight to my babies." I smiled and kissed her again.
