Chapter 5 - First Date
A/N: Okay, so the whole book idea doesn't match my story line anymore, and I REALLY WANT to start writing from Michael's or Janet's point of view.
So I changed the description, and every time you see a name in bold it means the story is from that person's point of view.
Thank you so much for reading this, I love you!
~
29th of August, 1984
Brooklyn is 18, Michael is 26
Michael: I rang Brooklyn's house door, waiting. I looked back, and saw Brandon giving me a thumb's up.
Brooke's brother opened the door, smiling at me.
"Hey, Mike." he said when he let me in, "Happy birthday."
"Thanks." I mumbled.
"So, where are you taking my sister?"
"That's a surprise." I said as Joshua, Brooke's dad, came into the living room.
Chris looked like his father, only with blonde hair and was a bit taller. Unlike his sister, who had a dark shade of green eyes, he had light blue eyes.
"Hello, Michael. Finally here to take my daughter on a date?" Joshua asked.
I chuckled at that. Unfortunately, for the last two weeks I was beyond busy, having no time to take Brooke on a first date.
Every time we made plans, I had to cancel them. But I told her it was worth the wait.
"Yes, sir. Finally." I smiled.
When I heard from Brooke that her father approved of us, I was relieved.
"Speaking of your daughter, where is she?"
"Oh, she's just getting ready." Chris laughed.
"Who's getting ready?" Brooke's voice was suddenly heard.
"No one," he murmured, "Have fun."
~
"Where are we going?" Brooke asked me as the car started.
I just smiled at her, keeping my mouth shut.
"By the way, happy birthday."
"Thank you, baby." I said, giving her a light kiss.
I took her hand in mine, kissing it a bit.
~
Thirty minutes later, the car stopped.
Brandon handed me the little picnic basket and a blanket, "Have fun, you two."
"Come on." I told Brooke, getting out of the car.
I waited for her, and closed the door behind her.
"Oh my God. Mike, this is amazing." she said, looking around.
We were standing in a giant, quiet field.
I took her hand, leading her up a little hill. The view was amazing.
We found a good spot and I laid out the blanket. "Are you hungry?"
"No, not really. Can we eat later?" Brooke said.
"We can eat whenever we want, we have four hours to be here."
She sat down, inhaling. I sat down next to her and took my sun glasses off.
It was a beautiful day for August in California.
"I love this. Thank you, Michael."
I kissed her and caressed her hair.
~
Brooklyn: I broke our kiss and sighed. Kissing him felt so natural, so right.
"What is it?" Michael asked, looking at me with concerned eyes.
"Nothing. I'm just happy, I guess." I said, smiling.
He smiled back, leaning on his arms and crossing his legs.
I put my head on his lap, looking up at him.
"Mother said we need to be at the Jackson house at six."
I nodded, closing my eyes.
"I know I'm comfortable and all, but don't fall asleep on me." Michael chuckled.
He started tickling my side and I jumped up.
"Don't you dare." I said.
He had a mischievous smile on his face.
"What?" he asked innocently, coming closer to me.
I started running.
Unfortunately for me, he was fast. He caught me and spun me around.
"Michael, put me down!" I screamed.
"Never!"
We were both laughing uncontrollably.
Michael finally let me down, telling me he had a surprise.
"Another one?" I asked. This was more than enough for me.
He told me to sit back on the blanket while he took things out of the basket.
Michael was holding a small bottle of white wine and two glasses, along with a sketchbook and a pen.
"What's the wine for?" I said, already knowing why the sketchbook was out. Michael was an artist, he liked to cherish situations through drawings and pictures.
"We have a reason to celebrate, don't you think?" he smiled, opening the bottle and pouring some of the wine into both of the glasses.
He handed me one, and soon a clinking sound was heard.
"To a new relationship." he said.
"And to birthdays." I said.
"And to birthdays."
~
We talked, laughed, and brought memories from a few years ago while Michael was drawing something in his sketchbook.
"Anddd, done!" he declared, looking proudly at it.
"Can I see?" I asked.
He nodded, giving it to me.
It was me, sitting with my knees cuddled to my chest, holding the glass of wine. My eyes were closed, and I was smiling.
"It's beautiful, Michael. Thank you."
He blushed deeply.
"Thank you for being such a beautiful inspiration."
Michael looked at his watch, and his eyes widened.
"Is that the time? We need to go." he said, standing up.
We packed everything up, heading down the field.
I saw the car standing where it dropped us off, and Brandon was leaning against the car door.
"It's already 6:30, Mike! Everyone's waiting." he said, opening the door.
"I know, I know. I'm sorry, we didn't notice what time it was." Michael told him, giving him the basket.
He let me slide in first, and came to sit next to me.
The car drove as soon as Brandon sat inside.
"Steve, slow down. It's my party, we can be late." Michael laughed, looking at his driver through the rear-view mirror. Brandon rolled his eyes.
"Did you have fun?" he turned to me.
"Yes. Thank you, it was amazing. You were right, it was worth the wait." I said and gave him a light peck on the lips. He looked proud of himself.
~
Michael: I hugged my mother, thanking her for this little party and apologizing for being late.
I looked at Janet and Brooke who were talking to each other. I smiled at the both of them together.
"Michael, can I talk to you?" Joseph asked, taking me to the side.
"I don't like the fact that you took that girl out on a date. She'll only distract you."
"From what?" I said.
"From your career." he said.
"You don't have to worry about my career anymore, Joseph." I mumbled.
I was scared of him, of course, but I had to stand up for myself.
My career was doing great, and Brooklyn was only going to help me grow.
I walked away from him, going over to my little sister.
"Hey, Mike." she said, hugging me.
"What about me?" Brooke pouted. I chuckled and held both sides of her face, kissing her deeply.
"Get a room!" I heard Jackie yell.
Brooke turned into a deep shade of red, and I'm sure I did the same.
