Chapter 37 - Forsake
20th of July, 1995
Brooklyn is 29, and Michael is 36
Michael: I walked with Brooke into Joshua's room.
Even though it looked nothing like a horrifying white hospital room, I hated it.
Of course, Marie was here. She was always here to help Joshua.
Which seemed kind of ironic, since she left him twenty-six years ago.
"Sweetheart, thank God you came." my father-in-law smiled weakly.
When he first started the chemo treatment, the doctor I hired to take care of him said that it would take his body time, and that he would feel awful with the first couple rounds.
"Mike," Brooklyn said. "Can you leave us alone for a few minutes?"
I nodded, guiding Marie outside.
I stood awkwardly next to her as we waited patiently.
"Thank you for calling me." she broke the silence.
"I only did it for Joshua." I dryly responded.
I knew my wife hated this woman, so having a conversation with her wasn't even an option.
"They are never going to forgive me, are they?"
I sighed, "Marie, I really rather stay out of this. It's not my place to judge what happened."
"What did she tell you?" she asked.
"I said I'm staying out of this." I crossed my arms over my chest.
"You can't, Michael. You were already in too deep when you married her."
"I know now as much as I knew when she first told me about you. That's all I'm saying."
Marie looked down at her feet.
The resemblance between her and Brooke was amazing. They were exactly the same person. The only thing different was Marie's blonde hair that matched Chris's.
The door opened, to expose my teary eyed wife.
"We're going home." she mumbled, taking my hand.
~
Brooklyn: I took a seat next to my dad's bed.
Holding his hand tightly, I also held back the tears.
"Don't leave me, daddy." I whimpered.
"Oh, sweetheart. I have time. You're lucky your husband has great pursuing skills."
I laughed through my tears and hugged him, "Maybe we can find you a donor."
"Maybe," he said. I could feel the smile on his face, though I couldn't see it. "Or maybe you can focus on trying for a child again. He told me you might finally have something to prevent... You know."
"You can't be serious, dad. We can't have a child right now, we need to focus on yo-"
"I'll be fine, Brooklyn. They give good care here," dad whispered. "Pretend I'm not sick. Can you do that for me?"
How could he tell me to just forget he has cancer?
I lifted my head from his chest, giving him a disbelieving look.
"I know it will be hard, but please try. I want to see you become the great mom I know you'll be."
I opened my mouth to speak, but he lifted a finger to stop me.
"Please." he begged this time.
I wiped my tears and nodded. Now giving Michael a child wasn't the only goal. It was also giving my dad another grandchild.
~
16th of September, 1995
Brooklyn and Janet are 29, Michael is 37
Michael: We officially started making Neverland into a stress-free home for my wife two weeks ago.
It was right after the VMAs, the night Mariah Carey's 'Fantasy' video premiered.
Brooke got so many compliments on it. The entire night she couldn't stop smiling.
But she wasn't seeing Joshua. He didn't let her see him.
I really didn't like that. I knew he was only trying to help us, yet it bothered me. He needed her as much as she needed him.
It was bothering Chris as well; he seemed upset with what his father was doing.
We were taking a candlelit bath, to help her unwind. I had to admit, this was really relaxing. I was on cloud nine.
"Did I ever tell you your hands are magical?" she mumbled as I massaged her feet.
I chuckled and continued.
She sighed, dunking herself further into the water.
I found myself staring at her curvy figure. It hurt me to know she hated it, as it was a reminder of our lost babies, but I couldn't help loving every inch of inch of her body.
I let my hand travel up her leg. Brooke instantly opened her eyes when I reached the inside of her thigh.
"How about we get to baby makin' now?" I asked, leaning on her.
Our lips touched and soon enough we were in sexual heaven.
~
Janet: "Come on, baby girl! Just a few steps for daddy!" Brandon, who was holding the video camera, encouraged Kate.
She held onto my two fingers as she took little steps.
"Go, Katie! You can do it!" I said, letting go.
I widened my eyes when she made her way to her father on her own.
Brandon gasped and reached out a hand for her.
Our daughter caught it, falling into his arms.
I clapped my hands excitedly, "You did it, Katie!"
I joined the family hug and heard Brandon sigh happily.
"My two girls. I love you so much." he whispered.
The smile spread across my face and I placed a kiss on his cheek.
"Ma-ma! Da-da!" Kate screamed, trying to push us away.
"Oh no," Brandon laughed. "I think we're annoying her."
"Well then, maybe we can annoy her a little more." I winked.
We showered her with kisses all over her little face, making her shriek.
~
Brooklyn: Michael collapsed on top of me, panting.
"Jesus Christmas." he huffed.
I let out a giggle and tried catching my breath as well.
"You will kill one day with all your lovin', girl."
I kissed him, as if to ask for another round.
Not only was I so tranquil, he was also sending me to paradise.
If this is what I need to do to keep a baby inside me, I don't mind doing it for nine months.
Michael's lips sucked on my neck, just before the phone rang loudly.
He groaned, "Pick it up, and tell them we're busy."
I shook my head. This man is too eager.
"Hello?" I sighed into the phone when I felt his lips travel down my body.
"Please don't tell me you're naked in bed with my brother." Janet mumbled.
"No, I- Mmmm..." a moan escaped my lips by accident.
I felt him down there, teasing me with his mouth.
"Ugh, gross. Call me when you're free."
The call ended, making me put the phone back in its place.
I tugged on my husband's hair as his hands roamed my body.
"I don't think that'll get me pregnant- "
I was cut off by my own moans as he pleasured me, slowly.
~
Janet: "They were fucking while I was on the phone with her." I shook my head and turned back to Brandon.
I gasped when I saw him kneeling down on one knee.
"W- what are you doing?" I stuttered.
"Janet Damita Jo Jackson," he grinned, and took out a beautiful engagement ring. "I love you more than anything in this world. You've given me a child, a precious daughter, and I can't thank you enough for that. Would you please, please, do me the honor of marrying me?"
"Yes! Oh, yes!" I screamed.
His smile got bigger, and he wrapped his arms around my waist, spinning me around.
I hugged his neck tightly.
"See, baby girl? Daddy told you she'd say yes!" Brandon said as he put me down, turning to Kate who was playing with her toys.
Our daughter crawled to us as he slid the ring on my finger, and gave me a long, passionate, kiss.
~
Chris: "Daddy, daddy! Look what I did today in school!" Jason chirped, running to me.
He held up a piece of paper for me to take.
I smiled when I saw the little people he drew.
"Who are these?" I asked.
"Our family! Look, that's you and mommy, that's me, that's auntie Brooke, and that's uncle Mike!" he answered and climbed on my lap,
"Oh, and that's grandpa, and auntie Janet and uncle Brandon with Katie."
I pointed at the little baby stroller he drew, "What's that?"
"That's my baby brother, daddy!"
"Oh? You're getting a baby brother?" I raised my eyebrows at Cynthia.
"No. He just has fantasies." she shook her head.
"Daddy, can we go see grandpa?" my son patted my thigh.
"You really want to?"
I didn't want to go see my dad. I knew it would make me sad.
And seeing Marie wasn't on the top of my to-do list, either.
Jason nodded excitedly.
"I miss him, daddy! And maybe later we can go to Neverland!" he said.
"Okay." I sighed, kissing his head.
~
"Wow, Jase. That's amazing!" dad tried to sound excited as Jason told him a story from school.
Cynthia sat patiently next to me and held my hand. I really didn't want to be here.
I looked at Marie. She was smiling at the scene of her husband and grandson together.
Then she noticed my staring,
"Can we talk?" she mouthed.
"I have nothing to talk to you about." I mouthed back and looked away.
~
I drove through the gates of Neverland, and stopped the car in front of the main house.
Maybe this place could make me happier.
Jason ran to the door and knocked as loud as his little self could.
Cynthia let out a chuckle as we followed him.
"Mr. Casey. What a surprise." Helen opened the door, a smile on her face.
"Is my sister home?" I asked.
"Oh, yes. But they're busy..." she answered, her cheeks blushing.
She pointed up and I instantly got her message.
"Are they sleeping? I can go wake them up!" Jason said excitedly.
"Yeah, they're sleeping..." Cynthia giggled. "But no, you can't wake them up."
"Why not?" he frowned.
"Listen to your mother, Jason. We can come back tomorrow." I said, taking his hand.
Helen cleared her throat, "That's not necessary. I'm sure they'll be up soon."
Chills went through me as I thought of my sister having sex.
I know she's 29, and I know her and Michael have been married for over nine years now, but she's still my little sister.
We walked into their giant house, and took a seat in the living room.
~
Michael: I sighed happily.
Our naked bodies were tangled in each other.
"That bath was so useless." Brooke said.
I giggled and nodded.
She placed a kiss on my bare chest, laying her head down on it.
"How I wish we could stay like this forever." I whispered.
I knew I had to leave her tomorrow for a little photoshoot Frank arranged.
My wife attached our lips and climbed on top of me.
Just before I went in for another kiss, someone knocked on our bedroom door.
"Mr. and Mrs. Jackson," I heard Helen. "Mr. Casey is here."
"Chris?" I raised my eyebrows at Brooklyn.
"Probably." she sighed and got off of me.
We hurried to get cleaned up so we can greet my brother-in-law.
~
Jason hugged my leg tightly.
"I missed you, uncle Mike. And I missed Neverland." he said.
I crouched down to hug him, "Aww, Jase. I missed you, too."
"What about me?" Brooke pouted.
"Auntie Brooke, you're a girl. I don't like girls."
"He used to get mad over us kissing. What happened?" she said in my ear.
"Nothing, he just got smarter." I ruffled my nephew's hair.
She scoffed and went to sit next to Cynthia.
"I have so much to tell you about school!" Jason grabbed my hand, pulling me outside.
He lay down on the grass and sighed deeply.
This kid is something special.
I lay next to him, "So what happened at school?"
"A few days ago we had a dance contest. And my teacher put on one of your songs! So I got up and danced like you taught me! When I was done some kids asked how I can dance like you. I told them you're my uncle but they didn't believe me."
"Well then, maybe I can pick you up one day, and they'll believe you." I suggested.
His eyes lit up, "That's perfect!"
It was silent for a while. We stared at the clouds, until he spoke again.
"Hey, uncle Mike?" Jason asked.
"Yeah, Jase?"
"Are you and auntie Brooke gonna give me a cousin? 'Cause mommy and daddy said I'm not getting a baby brother, I want someone to play with!"
"Don't worry, we're working on it." I smiled.
"So I'm gonna have a cousin soon?" He jumped up.
"Maybe a little niece."
He tackled me.
"Never uncle Mike! Girls are yucky!"
I laughed, wiggling my fingers at him.
He widened his eyes when he realized that I was going to tickle him.
"No! Not the tickle monster!"
~
Brooklyn: "Sorry we interrupted you guys. Jase really wanted to come here." Chris said.
"You didn't interrupt anything. We were done anyways." I replied.
"...How many rounds did you guys go for? I think I saw you limping when you walked downstairs." Cynthia laughed.
My brother gave her a look.
She waved him off, "I wanna know."
"I lost count after six." I said with a smile on my face.
"When you said you were trying for a baby you weren't kidding."
"Can we not talk about my sister's sex life?" Chris mumbled to Cynthia.
"Since when are you so protective of me?" I questioned.
"You're my little sister, I'm always protective of you." he said.
I rolled my eyes at him.
"Cyn, do you mind if I talk to her for a second?"
Cynthia shook her head and Chris pulled me to the kitchen.
He sighed, "You should see dad."
"I can't," I told him. "He won't let me."
"I don't care, you need to be there for him." my brother clenched his fists.
Why is he so angry all of a sudden?
"Chris, I-"
"No! Brooke, he's going to die. Do you know what that means? Do you? He needs us. The both of us. What the hell are you thinking, trying to get pregnant again?"
"I know what it means, Christopher." I whispered.
He looked me dead in the eye, "Then why are you home fucking your husband instead of being with him? You know the pregnancy will fail, anyway. Why even bother trying?"
Tears stung my eyes. What is wrong with him?
"Because it might actually work," I wiped the tears that threatened to escape. "Why are you like this?"
"Like what?" he rolled his eyes.
"Hostile." I stated.
My brother snickered, "Because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
"What is that supposed mean, exactly?" I blinked.
"You're abandoning him, just like Marie. You're doing exactly what she did to him all those years ago."
I gasped. How can he compare me to her?
"Get out, Chris." I ordered, pointing outside.
"Gladly."
~
Michael: Jason couldn't stop laughing and rolling around as I tickled him.
"U- uncle M- Mike, PLEASE!" he shrieked.
"Jason! We're going home!" I heard Chris.
I turned my head to look at him. He looked furious.
"I don't want to go, I want to stay with uncle Mike!" Jason told him.
"He has better things to do," he said, approaching us. "Let's go."
"Go, Jase." I helped Jason up.
My brother-in-law looked way too upset, the last thing I wanted was to get into a fight with him.
Jason gave me a big hug before unwillingly joining his father.
~
Brooke cried in my arms after explaining what happened with Chris.
"Baby, you shouldn't get upset about it. He'll calm down, you know he's just adjusting to the situation..." I whispered.
"But he's right. I'm abandoning dad just like our mother did." she cried harder.
"No you aren't. He wants us to have a child, remember?"
"He is dying, Michael!"
She was right. He was dying. Even with the chemo, there was no way he would make it without a donor. It was so frustrating that he didn't want to even try to find one.
"I know... I know." I said, tears flowing down my face as well.
"Take me to him." my wife pleaded.
"I'll try. He's just as stubborn as you."
She cracked a smile, "He really is."
I kissed her lips gently then wiped her tears.
"Let's calm you down, okay? How does a walk around the ranch sound like?" I asked.
"I could always use some fresh air." Brooklyn said.
I intertwined our fingers and pulled her outside for a refreshing walk.
