Chapter 19 - Destiny
14th of November, 1991
Brooklyn is 25, Michael is 33
Brooklyn: "What about Lily?" I asked my husband, checking it out with a pencil.
"Lily Jackson? I don't know, it doesn't click. Why can't we name her after my mother, again?" he said.
"Because I already told you I want something original." I lifted my eyes from the book of baby girls' names, and saw him pacing.
We were in the library at Neverland and I was sitting on a chaise.
It was raining today, so we stayed in.
He sighed and sat next to me, "Fine, something original. As long as her second name is Katherine."
He took the book from me, scanning it a bit.
"This book is useless, babe. These are just common names."
"I know, but I liked a few of the names in it. And I bought it because I knew you won't be helpful, at all." I told him.
"Hey, I can come up with names!" he defended himself.
"Prove it." I challenged.
"Girl, it's on. By dinner time each one of us had to have at least three original names."
"Fine with me."
"Good," Michael smiled and stood up. "I'm gonna go think abut those names outside. If you need me, I'll be at the giving tree."
"Michael, it's raining."
He shrugged and kissed my lips gently, before placing another kiss on my belly.
~
"Michael! It's starting!" I called, turning on the TV.
'Black or White' was premiering on MTV.
"I already watched it like ten times." Michael plopped next to me on the couch.
"Well, I haven't."
It finally started.
"I have a name." my husband said. "You'll love it."
He was trying to distract me, I knew it.
"You can tell me at dinner like we said," I told him. "Isn't Mac adorable?"
The music played loudly, and Michael started singing. I sighed when I felt the little girl inside me start moving.
"She's kicking again, huh?" Michael smiled.
I nodded, "Yeah. I told you she likes you voice."
My eyes were glued to the screen as he was dancing. I was starstruck. But watching him move like that made me miss dancing even more than I already did.
"Turn off that noise!" Homer Simpson yelled. I heard Michael let out a chuckle.
"Relax, homeboy." Bart said. I smiled.
"So, did you like it?" my husband asked.
"I loved it, you always seem to amaze me." I answered.
He blushed and looked away. It was the cutest thing ever.
"Okay, enough about me, we have names to pick," he tried to change the subject. "I want to hear yours first."
"I only have two." I told him, turning off the TV.
Michael gestured me to continue.
"Well, the first one is Iris. I know it's not that special, but I really fell in love with it. The second one is Amaya."
"I like Amaya more. Where did you get it from?" he said.
I shrugged, "It came up in my mind. Your turn."
"Okay, um, what do you think about Destiny?"
I just stared at him. The way he said it was perfect, and it clicked in my mind.
"You can tell me if you don't like it." my husband murmured, obviously hurt that I didn't respond.
"Oh, God, no. Michael, it's perfect." I said.
His eyes sparkled, "You really think so?"
"Yeah. Destiny Katherine Jackson fits, right?"
Michael grabbed me, pulling me into a long hug.
"At least we agreed on a name." he chuckled.
I pushed him away from me, "Stop ruining beautiful moments!"
He laughed at me.
"I hate you." I mumbled. My husband pinched my cheeks.
"Wait, do I get a reward for giving the perfect name?" he smirked.
"You might get a kiss." I played along.
"Then I'll take my prize now, please." he bit his bottom lips. I rolled my eyes and attached our lips.
The doorbell was heard through the entire house, making me pull away.
"That should be Chris." I said casually and stood up.
"Chris?" Michael questioned.
"Yeah, he asked me to babysit Jason for a few days. He's taking Cynthia to Hawaii," I told him. "I'm surprised he didn't tell you, you talk to him more than I do."
It was true, they were very close.
"It's nice of you to tell me!" he said as I left the living room.
I walked to the front door and opened it. My smiling brother, his girlfriend, and their cute little son were standing in front of me.
"Auntie Bwooke!" Jason said excitedly.
"Come here." I smiled, taking him into my arms.
"You shouldn't be lifting him." my brother mumbled.
"Chris, I'm fine. Don't worry. I just want to hold my nephew." I said and hugged Jason tightly.
"He's right, babe. You shouldn't be lifting other people when you're carrying another a human being inside of you," Michael's came from behind me. "Hey, guys."
"Hey, man." Chris said.
Cynthia handed me a bag, "We really need to go. Here's his things, and I left you the hotel number in there, just in case something happens."
"Say goodbye, Jase." I told my nephew.
He hugged his parents, "I love you."
"We love you, too, buddy. Now, be a good boy, okay? We'll be back in a week." my brother told him.
"Yes, daddy."
We waved at Chris and Cynthia as they drove off.
"Uncwe Mike, can we go on that HUGE trampoline you have?" Jason asked.
"It's raining, buddy." Michael chuckled.
My nephew pouted.
"But, that doesn't mean we can't have fun inside! Wanna jump on auntie Brooke's and I's bed?"
"Yeah!" Jason yelled excitedly. Michael took his hand and they ran upstairs.
I shook my head, laughing to myself.
I walked into the kitchen to find Ronda preparing lunch.
"Who's here, Mrs. Jackson?" she asked.
"My brother dropped off my nephew for a week, he's taking his girlfriend to Hawaii." I answered.
"Oh, that's nice," she smiled. "You've grown."
I laughed because it was true.
"Yeah, and she won't stop kicking me." I mumbled.
My cook chuckled, "They do that. Do you mind if I feel?"
"No, not at all."
She washed her hands and I lifted up my shirt.
Ronda's eyes widened, "Oh, wow. She is a kicker."
"No! Uncwe Mike, stop tickwing me!" I heard Jason's scream.
"I gotta see this, excuse me." I pulled my shirt down to cover my bump.
I quickly walked upstairs and headed to our wide open bedroom door.
My nephew was laughing uncontrollably as Michael tickled him.
"Auntie Bwooke, save me from the tickwe monster!"
I chuckled at them. Finally, Jason got out of Michael's tickling fingers, and ran to me as fast as he could.
He hugged my leg, "Don't let him tickwe me!"
~
Michael: I kissed Jason's forehead when he finally fell asleep.
I stood up, slowly, and quietly left the extra bedroom.
I walked into my wife's and I's bedroom, seeing her reading a book.
"God, that was tiring." I said, closing the double door. All day we've been with Jason, trying to keep up with him. But I loved it.
I took off my shirt and walked towards my closet room.
"How am I going to do this, Mike?" Brooke's question made me stop.
I turned to her, "What do you mean?"
"Be a mother, how am I going to do it?"
She's having doubts.
"Babe-" I started, but she silenced me by lifting a finger.
"I'm serious, Michael. I can't even run around Jason without wanting to give up. And, you're barely home, let's not forget that you have a tour planned when the album comes out. I'm scared that I won't be a good mother without you here."
The tears started falling onto her cheeks. I rushed over to her and held her close.
"You'll be the most amazing mother in the world." I reassured, wiping her tears.
"Just know that these are hormones talking. I'm too sensitive right now, and I'm blaming you." she mumbled into my chest.
I chuckled, "You're always sensitive, babe."
I looked out the window and saw a lightning, followed by the sound of a big thunder.
"Rainy days are the best." Brooklyn said.
Suddenly, the door opened and little Jason peeked in.
"Auntie Bwooke, I woke up from the thunder. I'm scared." he whispered, almost crying. It broke my heart.
"Aww, come here, honey." my wife cooed.
He quickly got into her arms. "It's just a big crash in the sky. It can't hurt you, I promise."
And she thinks she won't be good mother.
"Mommy and daddy let me sleep with them when the thunder comes. Can I sleep with you and uncwe Mike?"
"Sure, Jase."
He hugged his aunt tighter as another thunder was heard.
"I'm gonna change into my PJ's, I'll be right back." I said.
I stepped into my closet room, and quickly changed my clothes. I put my hair up as I returned to the bedroom.
Brooklyn had fallen asleep along with Jason. I sighed, turning off the lights, and crawled into bed next to them in hope to get some sleep.

Brooklyn is 25, Michael is 33
Michael: "Mike, wake up." I heard Brooke's voice say in my ear.
I turned to the other side, ignoring her little taps on y shoulder.
"I'm sleeping, babe." I murmured.
"I know, I hate you wake you up, but I just really really want chocolate ice cream."
I looked at the alarm clock on my bedside table, "It's 3 AM, Brooklyn."
"Blame your daughter." she whispered.
I sat up and stretched.
"Please?" she pursed her lips and made a puppy face.
"Okay, fine. You're lucky Jason's sleeping in your arms. Next time, you're getting up yourself." I told her.
"Yeah, yeah."
I shook my head. I hated her cravings, they always came at night. We ran out of peanut butter last week.
I got out of bed and made my way downstairs. I turned on the kitchen lights, rubbing my eyes.
She's lucky I love her.
I opened the freezer and took out a pint of chocolate ice cream. I went over to the silverware drawers, taking out two spoons. I might as well enjoy this, too.
I shut off the lights, quickly returning to our bedroom.
My wife turned on her bedside lamp, and smiled at me.
"Thank you, husband." she said.
"I'm gonna have to feed you, too, huh?" I asked.
"Nah, only if you want to." she smiled. I sat on my side of the bed, letting out a sigh.
Brooke reached out her hand and I gave her a spoon.
I opened the ice cream, putting a spoonful in her mouth.
"This is amazing." she mumbled.
I chuckled and ate a spoonful of ice cream myself.
"Are you still having doubts?" I questioned.
Brooklyn nodded slightly.
"You shouldn't. You'll be an amazing mother. Jason is the perfect example for it. He's always happy with you. And, it's gonna be my job to take care of my girls, anyways. So don't you even dare to think you'll be less than a great mommy." I said sternly.
She looked at me with her big green eyes, "I'm scared that growing up without a mother would effect the way I would be as a mother."
"And I think that because you didn't grow up with your mother, you'll do your best to be the best mother in the world." I whispered.
She attached our lips, being careful not to wake Jason whom was sleeping peacefully in between us.
"You taste good." my wife winked.
~
"Auntie Bwooke, Uncwe Mike, wake up, wake up, wake up!" Jason screamed while jumping on the bed.
Well, at least I woke up before my alarm clock went off.
I rubbed my eyes, "I'm up, I'm up."
"Yay, uncwe Mike! Good morning!" he attacked me in huge hug.
I chuckled, hugging him tighter.
"You gotta be quiet, Jase. Your auntie is sleeping, so don't wake her up." I said.
He nodded, putting a little finger on his lips.
"Okay, go downstairs, I'll be right there."
He hugged me again before getting out of our bedroom.
I got up to brush my teeth and ran downstairs to find Jason jumping on the couch.
He is so energetic.
~
Brooklyn: The sun hit my eyes as I started opening them.
"Mike?" I asked. No answer. I turned to his side, and neither he or Jason were there.
I freshened up, put on some casual clothes, and made my way downstairs.
I was so glad that my nausea was finally over, for good. No more waking up too early.
"Good morning, Mrs. Jackson." Helen, one of our housemaids, smiled at me.
"Good morning, Helen," I smiled back. "Have you seen my husband?"
"He said you knew he was working today."
I furrowed my eyebrows. Oh, right.
"And did he take Jason with him? My nephew?" I asked.
She nodded.
"Thank you, Helen." I told her, walking into the kitchen to greet Ronda.
~
"So he took Jason and left you to sleep. That's nice of him." Chris said on the other end.
"Very nice of him, but I had nothing to do today, I was hoping Jase would keep me entertained. You know me, I can't do nothing all day." I mumbled.
"I think that's exactly what he wanted, sis. You need to take it easy right now."
"You're saying that like I go out every day and every night. I barely leave the ranch."
"You know what I meant, Brooklyn. I get him, I did the same when Cyn was pregnant." he said.
"Don't lecture me, Christopher." I warned.
"I didn't want to lecture you, I just want you to be little bit more careful. Don't get worked up about it, Jesus." my brother told me.
I decided to ignore him, "Having fun in Hawaii?"
"Yes, a lot. You have to go sometime." he said excitedly.
"I've been there four times already." I reminded him.
"Right. Well, not all of us have a very successful husband, you know."
I rolled my eyes.
"How's my little boy, though? Enjoying himself?" Chris asked.
"Of course, you know he loves coming here. And Michael chases him around all the time, so that's good," I answered, rubbing my bump. "Would you please tell your niece to stop kicking me?"
I heard him laugh, "Do you have a name for her yet?"
"Yeah, her name's Destiny." I smiled.
"That's unique." he said.
"I know, that's what I wanted. We're naming her after Katherine, too."
"Aww, I'm so happy for you, sis," I could feel him smile. "I gotta go. We're heading down to the beach."
"Have fun." I told him.
"Thanks, you too." he said.
I hung up and put the phone back.
"Auntie Bwooke, we're back!" Jason's voice echoed through the big house.
I turned around, seeing him skip happily, followed by Michael.
"Hey, you two." I said as my husband leaned down to kiss me. "Where did you go?"
"Uncwe Mike took me to see him sing and dance." my nephew smiled and gave me a hug.
"We also got you something on the way home." Michael said, exposing a shopping bag from behind his back.
"What is it?" I asked excitedly.
"Open it!" Jason jumped on the couch next to me.
"Okay, okay." I laughed.
Michael gave me the bag and I took out the little onesie.
"Read what it says."
I turned the little clothing material and read out loud, "I love my mommy."
I grinned, looking up at him.
"You two are so sweet," I told my husband and nephew. "I love you."
Jason hugged me tightly and Michael smirked at me. I remembered last night's talk, which made me roll my eyes at him.
I put the onesie next to me on the couch, got up, and his arms wrapped around my body. I gave him a little peck, but he held me close, deepening the kiss.
"Ew!" we heard Jason say. "Uncwe Mike, auntie Bwooke only kisses me!"
"I had her first, Jason."
"You're fighting with a two years old kid, Mike." I whispered to my husband.
"Hey, he started it, I'm allowed to kiss my wife," he pouted. "Jase, are you tired?"
I looked at my nephew whom was yawning. He nodded and rubbed his eyes.
"Come on, let's get you to bed."
Michael picked him up, making Jason put his head on his uncle's shoulder as he closed his eyes.
"Goodnight." I said, kissing the top of his head.

23rd of November, 1991
Brooklyn and Janet are 25, Michael is 33
Brooklyn: "Mike, I'm heading out!" I said, grabbing a jacket and my keys.
He appeared at our bedroom door in just a few moments.
"Where to?" he raised his eyebrows.
"Janet decided to go eat somewhere." I mumbled.
"Can I come along?"
I sighed, "Sure."
He smiled, putting on his Fedora, "Let's go."
He's being protective again.
I knew Michael didn't mind me going out with Janet, he never did. But, it was just like when we went shopping.
"If we won't be able to sit in a restaurant because of you, you're going straight home." I said.
"Babe, you're going out with Janet, she'll cause a riot without my help. Plus, you know everyone recognizes you, I don't think it's gonna be that different."
"And you know that if you do come it will be different." I told him.
"We'll take Brandon, Bill, and Dan. Everything will be fine." he reassured.
~
Michael: I waved shyly at my fans who were waiting impatiently outside of the restaurant we were just at.
I tightened my grip on Brooke's hand, hoping to just get to the car.
Bill and Dan pushed camera men out of the way while Brandon led us safely through the crowd.
"MICHAEL, BROOKLYN, WHAT ARE YOU HAVING?" one of them asked, snapping a picture of us.
I ignored him like I knew I should, and so did my wife and sister. I hated when they tried to get into our personal lives. It's non of their fucking business.
Both Janet and Brooklyn tried hiding their faces from the blinding flashes.
I could finally see the car, which made me sigh in relief. Dan opened the door for us.
I let the girls go in first, then got in myself.
"Everyone okay?" I asked.
They both looked at me with their annoyed expressions.
"What?"
"I told you this would happen." my wife said.
I sighed, looking out the window as the car started moving.
~
Brooklyn: I was feeling awful since we left the house. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to disappoint Janet.
We barely got to see each other as it is.
My head ached a lot more than usual, and I had a pain in my body that shifted from one part to another.
It didn't worry me, though. I was probably just worn out.
Sitting next to my best friend as Steve took us home, the pain moved to my lower abdomen, and stayed there. I probably made a face, because Janet looked worried.
"You okay?" she whispered.
I nodded, leaning back in my seat. I put a hand on my bump.
Weirdly enough, I couldn't feel little Destiny kick.
I looked at Michael, whose face was covered by his Fedora as he was taking a nap. Or trying to, at least. My poor tired baby.
I turned to Janet, deciding to ignore the pain.
"He's annoying you, huh?" I asked.
"A bit," she mumbled her answer. "I still think he's being over-protective."
"But you knew he was gonna be this way, he's like that."
"Yeah, ever since we were little girls he was protective." she smiled.
"I can hear you, you know." Michael said.
He took off his hat and stretched.
"And I'm not being over-protective, I just want my two girls healthy."
Janet rolled her eyes.
The gates to Neverland opened in front of the car. I sighed, glad to be home.
Michael helped me out of the car. I hugged my best friend tightly.
"I'm gonna come by tomorrow, when he's not here," she whispered in my ear. "In the meantime, get some rest. I love you."
"I love you, too, Jan." I smiled.
She then turned to her brother.
"Bye, Mike the protector." she teased.
"Shut up, Dunk. You'd do the same if you were in my place." he said, hugging her.
Michael walked over to the car, "Steve, make sure she gets home."
Janet got into the car and we watched as it drove off.
We walked into the house. I groaned, tiredness suddenly hitting me.
"Come on, let's run you a bath." my husband said, rubbing my back.
"Thank you."
He pulled me to our bedroom, sat me down on the bed, and kissed the top of my head.
"Stay here."
I sighed, laying down as he disappeared into the big bathroom. The pain in my lower stomach was still felt, but it was bearable.
I could hear water running, along with Michael's singing. I smiled, deciding to get up.
I walked into the bathroom to find my husband tapping his foot on the floor, and of course, singing.
"Babe?" I asked.
He jumped and turned to me.
"I was just about yo get you." he said.
"I see that." I chuckled, taking my shirt off. I quickly stripped out of my other clothes.
Michael flashed his perfect smile and took off his own clothes. His skin condition had gotten worse, making his white patches turn chocolate brown instead. He hated what it was doing to him, while I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. He said he never understood me when it came to that.
He took a seat in the big, rectangular bathtub, and sighed.
I got in, leaning on him. He started massaging my shoulders gently, "You're so tense."
I hummed and savoured his touch.
My husband chuckled in my ear, moving his hands to my bump.
"She isn't kicking?" Michael pouted.
I shook my head.
"Nope. And, please, don't make her kick. She won't stop if she starts." I mumbled, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"Okay, okay, I won't make her kick." he laughed. "Hey, Princess, kick for daddy. Come on, one kick for me."
I splashed his face with water, "You're so annoying."
He only shrugged.
"Wanna go down to the theater later? We could watch a movie or something." I suggested.
"I'd love to." he smiled.
~
"What are we watching?" I asked Michael as he walked down the stairs of our private theater, with popcorn in his hands.
He handed me the bucket and sat down next to me.
"You'll see in a second." he said.
My husband took a handful of popcorn, putting it all in his mouth.
"Jackson family gathering, 1975." I heard Joseph's voice coming from the giant speakers.
I looked up at the screen and saw Michael's entire family sitting in a circle.
"Right here we have Rebbie, Jackie, and Tito," my father-in-law said. "Along with La Toya, Jermaine, Randy, and Marlon. Momma Katherine is being shy and is hiding behind the camera."
I laughed when I heard Katherine scoff in the background.
"And right here in the middle are Michael, Janet, and her friend Brooklyn."
I raised my eyebrows.
"I don't remember this." I said. I tried to get a memory of a Jackson family gathering in Janet's and I's early years, but nothing came up.
"Yeah, I didn't expect you to. You and Janet spent that day inside." Michael smiled.
We watched a few more minutes of the movie, before a really sharp pain went through my body. It felt like someone was kicking me right in the stomach over and over again.
I clutched Michael's arm tightly and tears started to form in my eyes.
"Brooklyn?" he asked, voice full of concern.
"Something's wrong."
~
