Chapter 16 - A Baby Jackson?
5th of July, 1991
Brooklyn and Janet are 25, Michael is 32
Janet: Brooklyn led me and my mother into the living room, telling us to get comfortable.
She looked tired. No, that wasn't the word to describe it. She was hopeless. Michael was, too, but he never showed it.
See, for the last two years they've been trying to get pregnant. They did everything.
"Do you want something to drink?" my best friend smiled.
"Honey, we're fine," mother said. "We came to see how you were doing, we're worried."
Brooklyn sighed.
My mother patted the empty seat between us.
Brooke sat down, "I wanna give up."
She pulled her knees to her chest and hid her face.
I hugged her, putting my head on her shoulder.
"You can't." I whispered to her.
"Two years, Jan."
"I know," I rubbed her back. "But you are so close. When was the last time you and Michael... You know... Tried?"
"Janet!" my mother scolded.
"What? I want to help." I told her.
"It's fine, Katherine. Just leave it, both of you." my best friend said, raising her head.
"I just don't want to disappoint anyone. Especially Michael, he wants this so much."
A tear rolled down her cheek.
"You're so close, remember that." I told her, again, before she attacked my in a giant hug.
~
Brooklyn: I closed the front door after Janet and Katherine, and leaned on it. I felt so useless.
I shook it off so I wouldn't feel too sad.
I walked towards the kitchen and Ronda, of course, was there. She asked if I wanted something to eat.
My stomach answered for me with a growl. "I'll take that as a 'yes' ".
As she was making my food, I sat at the table, and played with my fingers.
"I had trouble getting pregnant as well." Ronda told me.
I looked up at her, feeling bad. I knew she was married, but nothing more than that.
"I feel so ignorant right now. I've known you for more than five years and I don't even know you have children." I said.
"It's okay, I didn't expect you to know. Mr. Jackson didn't know, either, until I talked to him about it," my cook shrugged. "But it's not what matters. My husband and I tried for three years before I had my daughter. I wanted to give up as well, after a year. It takes time, and patience. It's worth it, eventually."
I smiled, nodding my head.
"And, with all those time we've heard you two in your bedroom, you'll be pregnant in no time."
I bit my bottom lips and blushed, "Oh, you hear us?"
Ronda chuckled. She was finished with my meal. Finally, I was starving.
She placed the plate in front of me, and sat across the table.
"Where is your husband, Mrs. Jackson? I haven't seen him today." she asked.
"At the recording studio. Recording the new album." I answered, taking a bite.
"This is amazing."
"Thank you." Ronda smiled.
~
I was watching TV when Michael came home. He surprised me by covering my eyes and kissing my cheek.
"How was it?" I asked when he sat next to me.
"Great, it's coming out really well. You need to hear some of the songs." he said, intertwining our fingers.
I moved myself so I would sit on his lap. My husband smiled at me.
He held me by my waist and connected our lips. We stayed like that for a few moments.
"Janet and your mother were here today." I said.
Michael closed his eyes and hummed.
I found myself staring at him, admiring his beautiful face.I traced his jawline with my fingers, and that made him open his eyes.
"Can we go upstairs and try again?" I asked.
"Babe, we tried two days ago. Give it time." he told me, stroking my hair.
"Please?" I begged. I put my lips to the soft skin of his neck, kissing it lightly.
"Okay, but you gotta stop teasing me like that."
I giggled as he picked me up and took me to our bedroom.
~
Michael: "Do you think it's because of me?" Brooklyn asked.
Our naked bodies were tangled together on the bed.
"Brooke, we talked about this. Even the doctors said you're fine," I said, sternly. "You might be pregnant and we don't even know it."
She snickered, "Yeah, right."
"Hey, I'm getting you pregnant, whether you like it or not."
"At least you're determined."
"Shut up." I nudged her arm.
"Actually, about shutting up," my wife said. "We're too loud. Ronda told me her and the other employees are hearing us."
I let out an embarrassed giggle.
"But, seriously, Mike. We're married for almost five years. I want you to be a daddy." she whispered.
"I know, but I'm patient. You should be, too." I told her.
"Wanna go again, just for luck?" I asked.
Brooklyn rolled her eyes, and gave me a little peck on my lips.

Brooklyn and Janet are 25, Michael is 32
Brooklyn: It didn't hit me right away that I was pregnant. Luckily for me, I noticed I was late. A lot late. And I was worn out lately, more than usual.
I called Janet right away.
"Do you think this might be it?" I asked her.
"It could be. Want me to come over?" she suggested.
"Please."
She hung up, and I started to get nervous.
~
Janet: As soon as I got to Neverland, Brooke pulled me into their bedroom.
Michael was in the recording studio, again. He was working a lot lately. I never understood how he could do so much in such little time. I'd crumble under that kind of pressure.
I followed my best friend into the bathroom, and watched as she opened the cabinets above the sink.
She took out a pregnancy test. They had about a dozen of them in there.
"Michael got these. He said we have to be sure." Brooke explained.
I nodded, quickly getting out of there to let her do her business. I sat on their bed while waiting for her.
Please, let this be it.
A few minutes later my best friend came out the door, holding the little box.
"It says to wait three minutes." she informed. She then started pacing back and forth.
"Brooke, sit down. You're making me dizzy." I told her. She sighed and sat next to me.
I looked at the clock they had on the wall.
Come on, one more minute.
Brooklyn sprinted up from the bed when three minutes had passed.
"Jan, you look. I'm too scared to be disappointed." she said.
I smiled at her and went into their bathroom.
The test was on the counter, waiting for us to just take a glimpse. The little plus sign was clear. I made my way out back to my impatient best friend.
I showed her the little stick, "Congratulations, mommy!"
"Oh, my God." she covered her mouth.
She attacked me in a tight hug, "Thank you, Jan."
I laughed at her excitement, and sighed in relief. Finally.
~
Brooklyn: Janet and I ran downstairs. I couldn't wait to tell Michael.
"Ronda!" I got excited when we entered the kitchen.
My cook turned around and smiled. I pulled her into a hug. She was surprised by my action, but still hugged me back.
"What is it?" she asked.
"I'm pregnant!" I answered.
"That's amazing! Congratulations."
"Thank you."
"Brooke, you need to tell Michael." Janet said, snapping me out of the bubbly mood I was in.
"Right." I realized after I calmed down a bit.
"Good, get ready. We're going to surprise him."
~
Michael: I played with the mixing console, trying out a few things with the vocals I just recorded.
I was wiped out. All I wanted was to get home.
I have to finish this.
A knock on the door interrupted my train of thought.
"Yes?" I asked, not bothering to turn around to see who it was.
"Should I be hurt?" I heard Brooke's voice. I turned around instantly.
"What are you doing here?" I said, opening my arms for her.
"I thought it was about time I'd come to visit you here. Plus, you wanted me to hear some of the songs, right?"
"Okay, what's the real reason?"
She couldn't fool me, I knew her too well.
My wife just smiled and sat on my lap. She draped her arms lazily around my neck.
"Janet and myself decided to surprise you." Brooke said.
"Why?" I was suspicious.
"Because we found out something earlier," she was now looking me straight in the eyes. "You're gonna be a daddy."
I looked at her, my mouth slightly opened.
"W-what?" I questioned. I tried to find words to say, but I couldn't.
"Michael, I'm pregnant," my wife said. "You're crying."
She laughed as she caught a tear that threatened to fall onto my cheek.
I didn't say anything, I was speechless. Instead, I buried my face in her neck, and held her close.
Brooklyn played with my curls and started to cry as well.
My lips left small kisses on her skin, and slowly made their way up to her lips.
I kissed her with passion, hoping the kiss would speak for me, and tell her what I felt.

Brooklyn is 25, Michael is 33
Michael: It was around 6 AM. I was in the game room, trying to pass the time there. I didn't sleep at all that night. I couldn't, I was too nervous.
Today I finally have the chance to take Brooke for a checkup on the baby.
No one knew about this, except for Janet. We just wanted to make sure everything was okay before telling our families.
I also took some time off to be there for my wife, and that caused trouble with the press. The rumors started flying around, and I was constantly hounded by questions about it every time paparazzi saw me.
I got bored pretty quickly from playing, so I went back into our bedroom. Brooklyn wasn't in bed.
The bathroom door was wide open. I sighed, knowing what was happening.
She was crouching in front of the toilet. I hurried and pulled back her hair. I rubbed her back, trying to soothe her.
This started happening a couple of weeks ago, and since then it just didn't stop. I didn't mind taking care of my wife, but to her waking up in the morning like this was a complete nightmare.
After a while she stopped throwing up.
Brooke lifted her face, "I'm sorry you had to watch that."
"You need to stop saying that every morning." I told her, pulling her up.
I brushed a few loose strands of hair from her beautiful face, and kissed her forehead.
She walked past me and made her way to the sink to brush her teeth.
~
We walked into the private clinic, Brandon right behind us. Donna, the receptionist, smiled at us.
"Please, sit down, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson. Doctor James will be with you in a minute." she said, gesturing to the waiting room.
Brooklyn thanked her, and pulled me to a seat. Luckily, we were the only ones here.
My bodyguard sat on a chair across from us, and sighed.
I tapped my foot on the floor. My nerves were starting to build up inside.
"Hey," Brooke put her hand on my knee. "Relax. Everything is going to be fine."
I smiled at her, taking her offered hand. She squeezed on my hand, trying to reassure me.
I looked at Brandon, whom had his thumbs up. I rolled my eyes at him.
I jumped when Dr. Regina James's office door opened. She was a very short woman, with thick, black curls, and reminded me a bit of Janet. She was a wonderful person, though.
Through these last couple of years, she had helped so much.
"Michael, Brooke, please come in." she smiled.
The both of us stood up and followed her into the room.
We took our set on the chairs that were next to her table. Dr. James sat at the other side of it.
"First of all, it's great to see you two again. Second, I think you deserve to be congratulated." she said.
"Thank you." I told her. She nodded in response, and turned to my wife.
"Well, I want to know how you're doing, Brooke."
"I'm good. Very good. Besides for the nausea and the fact that I'm more tired all the time, everything is great."
"That's wonderful to hear. Now, lets see that baby of yours." the doctor told us.
Brooklyn lay on the bed and took a deep breath.
I stood above her, taking her hand and kissing it. She pulled up her shirt to her bra line, exposing her still flat stomach.
"This is going to be cold." Dr. James warned.
My baby is in there.
My wife gripped on my hand tightly when the gel touched her skin.
I looked at the screen along with Dr. James, and my heart beat faster.
Suddenly, I heard another heartbeat.
"That's a beautiful, strong heartbeat right there."
"Look, Michael. That's our baby." Brooklyn said with tears in her eyes.
I saw a little head, little hands. It made me grin.
"It is," I whispered to her. "Thank you for this, it's amazing."
I kissed her gently. She kissed me back, and I wiped her tears.

11th of September, 1991
Brooklyn and Janet are 25, Michael is 33
Janet: Everyone roamed the property of Neverland. Both my family and Brooke's were here.
Michael called to invite everyone for a 'gathering', but I knew they were finally gonna tell them about the pregnancy.
My siblings brought all of their wives and kids, and Chris came along with Cynthia and Jason.
And, of course, Joshua was here.
The older kids were enjoying the rides with Michael, while we were talking.
"Look at you, Jason! You've gotten so big!" Brooke said to her nephew. He was now two years old.
Jason hugged her leg, "I missed you, auntie Bwooke."
"I missed you, too."
I smiled at them.
I heard Michael's scream. He was running towards us, with all of the kids after him.
"Help me, I'm gonna get eaten!"
He purposely fell on the grass, and they jumped on him. "We got you, Applehead!"
"I want to pway with uncwe Mike!" Jason said.
Cynthia smiled at her son, "Go ahead, honey."
"Uncwe Mike!" Jason yelled, running towards my big brother with his little feet.
Michael opened his arms for him.
I looked at Brooklyn. She had tears in her eyes.
"Excuse me." she told everyone, and ran back into the house. I followed her, closing the door behind me.
"Hey, what is it?" I asked.
My best friend wiped her tears and smiled.
"Just hormones. I didn't want to explain to everyone why I have a sudden outburst," she answered. "I watched them now, and just thought what an amazing father Michael would be."
I chuckled, shaking my head. The door opened and Michael was there with his worried expression.
"What happened?"
"Nothing, hormones."
He slightly smiled at her.
My brother took his wife's hand and pulled her into a hug.
This was their moment, I had no intention of ruining it. So, I quickly returned back to the families outside.
"What's going on n there?" Tito asked.
"You'll find out soon." I answered, giving him a smile.
~
Brooklyn: I pulled away from Michael's embrace.
"We need to go back." I told him.
"If we have to." he murmured, pouting.
I cupped his cheek with my hand, and kissed his soft lips. "You're cute."
He blushed, looking away.
I laughed at his shyness, took his hand, and walked towards the door
Once we were outside, everybody's eyes landed on us.
"Are you okay, sweetheart?" my dad questioned.
"Yeah, dad. Everything's great." I smiled.
"Where's Jermaine?" Michael asked.
"In the bathroom." his mother said.
"Auntie Bwooke, uncwe Mike!" Jason ran to us.
"What? What is it, buddy?" my husband said, raising his eyebrows.
"Is it twue that you have a baby inside of you?"
I froze. Michael did, too.
"Wait, what?" Katherine asked.
"W- where did you hear that from, Jason?" Michael asked my nephew.
"Auntie Janet." Jason whispered.
"Janet!" I exclaimed.
"Sorry." my best friend mumbled.
"Woah, woah, woah. Hold on a second," Randy said. "You got her pregnant, Mikey?"
"I- yeah. We meant to tell you properly, but Jan kind of ruined it." my husband sighed.
"I said I was sorry." Janet told him.
He smiled at her, "It's okay, Dunk. Really."
"I knew it! See, I told you." La Toya said to Rebbie.
I rolled my eyes at my two sisters-in-law.
"We need to celebrate!" Jackie raised his hands in the air.
"Celebrate what?" Jermaine's voice was clear from behind us.
"Mikey's gonna be a daddy." Randy teased.
"Brooke, you're pregnant?"
I nodded.
"That's amazing." Jermaine hugged me tightly. He then hugged, and I looked at everyone.
"Sweetheart, I'm so proud of you."
Dad knew how much I've been trying to do this for Michael, and him.
I gave him a smile.
"Congrats, guys." Cynthia said.
"Mommy, if auntie Bwooke has a baby inside of her, what does that mean?" Jason suddenly asked.
"It means that you," Michael smiled and pointed at him. "Will have a little cousin very soon."
