Bonus chapter #2 - Making It Official
25th of October, 1984
Brooklyn and Janet are 18, Michael is 26
Michael: I rolled on my side and turned off the alarm clock. I lay in bed for a while, thinking about how lucky I became.
I was planning on asking Brooklyn to be my girlfriend, officially. We already have a date planned today, so I'm making it a bit more special by taking her to a restaurant where everyone can see us. Up till now, all our dates have been pretty private, either at Hayvenhurst or at her father's house, and sometimes at a private location I'd find.
After getting out of bed and brushing my teeth, I got dressed in a nice suit and tie.
I pulled on a jacket, then hurried downstairs to meet mother in the living room.
"Someone's looking nice today," she smiled. "What's the occasion?"
"I'm gonna make it official with Brooke." I told her.
"Aw, honey, I'm glad. I hope you'll ask her something much more serious soon, though..."
I widened my eyes at her indication of asking Brooklyn to marry me.
"Mother we just started dating. We're not even a couple yet."
"But it's the happiest I've ever seen the both of you... I haven't witnessed so much love between two people in so long..."
"Mother!" I exclaimed, obviously blushing like crazy.
The only person I actually felt comfortable to talk about my relationship with Brooke was Janet.
The phone rang through the house, and mother picked it up.
"Brooklyn, we were just talking about you! Yes, he's right here... Oh, of course, honey. I love you, too."
Mother held out the phone to me, "It's for you."
I playfully rolled my eyes at her as I took the phone from her.
"Hey, baby." I said.
"Hey, Mike," Brooke sounded cheerful as ever. "What's the plan for today? Are we having our date at yours or mine?"
"Actually, we're doing something a little different today. I'll come pick you up at around 12, okay?" I told her.
"More than enough time for me to get ready. I can't wait to see you."
"Me too. I miss your lips..." I confessed.
It was true. It drove me absolutely crazy to go even a day without kissing her. I was so caught up in her.
She giggled, "I'll make sure to give you very long kisses today."
I let out a chuckle.
"You're making me even more impatient to kiss you now..."
"Then get off the phone and come pick me up."
"Okay, I'll see you in a bit, baby." I said and hung up.
I sighed happily.
"Aww, Mikey, you're so cute when you're in love." Randy suddenly appeared from behind me.
I hit his shoulder, making him wince.
"Jealous?"
"Actually, yes. I'd love to tap that... When you gonna do her like you did Brooke Shields?"
I hit him again, this time harder.
"Ow! Mikey, what the fu-" Randy stopped himself when he saw our mother walk in. "Mother, Michael's hitting me."
"Boy, maybe you deserve it. Stop talking about Brooklyn like she's just some random girl Michael found on the street." she told him.
I smiled at my mother's remark. She knew just how to put Randy in his place.
"Excuse me, I need to call a car to take me." I said to the both of them.
I kissed my mother's cheek and gave Randy another punch to the shoulder.
He let out a little shriek.
"That's for thinking about my girl in that kind of way. She's mine."
~
Brooklyn pressed her lips against mine for a while. It was so good to kiss her again.
She pulled away, making me frown.
"You'll get more kisses today, Mike. I want to know where you're taking me." she grinned.
"Nowhere special, just a restaurant." I returned the smile.
"A restaurant? Like we're going on a date at a public place?"
"Exactly."
Brooke scrunched her eyebrows.
"But this means-"
I cut her off, "This means we'll have a lot of fun and you'll be even more surprised when we get there."
"Okay. Wanna go back to kissing?" she asked.
I nodded without hesitation, and attached our lips again.
~
Brooklyn: "Spago? We're at Spago? Michael, this is the biggest restaurant right now!" I gasped as the car pulled up to the famous restaurant.
Every celebrity was eating here these days. I even saw Michael here a few times in the past.
"Really? I didn't know." Michael smirked.
"I'm not even dressed properly!" I scoffed.
"Yes your are. You look beautiful in that dress. Now, take these, I don't want you blinded on the way in." he handed me his pair of aviator sunglasses.
"What about you?"
"I'll do fine. Just hold my hand."
He placed the sunglasses over my eyes and gave me a quick peck before opening the door.
As soon as we stepped out of the car, screams were heard.
"Michael!! Michael, I love you!!" a girl tried reaching out to grab his shirt.
I laughed a little, but then I was blinded by horrible flashes everywhere.
Michael made sure to clutch my hand tightly as cameramen kept taking pictures of us.
"Michael, who's this?! Are you two dating?!" one asked loudly.
Yes.
I wanted to yell it out loud so everyone could hear already, even though we weren't an offical couple yet. I was so happy lately, thanks to Michael. Keeping this relationship from everyone except our families was torture.
A few friends from my school asked if I've been dating anyone since Ross and I broke up, and I couldn't tell them about Michael.
I wanted to, but I realized they would talk if they knew we were together.
We were quickly inside the restaurant, and we were lead to a back room.
Michael sighed, "Safe and sound. You okay? Did any of those guys push you?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. That was intense, though. I was scared that girl was going to rip off your shirt for a second." I said, taking off the sunglasses he gave me.
"I think she was trying to do just that." he chuckled.
I joined him. Once our laughter died down, he pulled the chair for me to sit on.
He sat down across from me and ordered us a bottle of champagne.
"Champagne? What are we celebrating?"
"Us. I uh, wanted to ask you something-" Michael started saying, but was cut off by a man in a suit that came into the room.
"Michael, it's so good to see you again!" he exclaimed.
He turned out to be the owner, and was introduced to me. He asked who I was to Michael.
"This is my, uh... We're dating." Michael answered, the blush clear on his cheeks.
"It's a pleasure. Enjoy your date. I'll tell the chef to make the 'Lovers Special' for you two." the owner said.
He shook Michael's hand before leaving us alone.
"The 'Lovers Special'? What is that?" I questioned.
Michael shrugged, "I have no idea. You're the first girl I've brought here. The only people who were here with me are Janet and my mother."
"So I should feel special, huh?"
He took my hand in his.
"You are special. Very special to me. That's why I wanted to ask you to be my girlfriend."
~
Michael: Brooklyn attacked me in a hug and giggled into my neck.
"I thought you'd never ask!" she said.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, sighing happily into her hair.
"So it's a yes?"
"Yes!"
I hugged her tighter.
She's mine, and no one can take her away from me.
