Chapter 8
Theera
I have been dreading lunch since school started today. I have had a pen in my hand, and have been fidgeting with it everywhere I go, even in the hallways. My earbuds are connected to my phone so I can constantly listen to music.
After social studies, Aditi accompanies me to my locker. I grab my lunch, and she gets hers before we walk to the cafeteria. I sit in my usual seat at lunch, between Aditi and Saami.
"Dude, Neil's coming this way." Aditi says, nudging me.
I glance up, and sure enough, he is walking this way. I immediately turn around and grab a freshman boy.
"Hey, how's school going?" I ask the kid.
"Huh?" He looks utterly confused and scared as hell. Poor kid.
"Do you like high school?"
"I mean, yeah. It's okay I guess." The kid replies.
"He walked out." Aditi whispers to me.
"Nice. Well, if you ever need anything, ask the teachers, or any of the upperclassmen." I say. "We are always happy to help."
The kid nods before walking away.
"Wow, you scared that kid." Saami says as I turn back to my food.
"At least he's not coming here. I can't deal with this right now." And, just as I say it, I feel a tap on my shoulder.
I immediately turned around to be met by Neil's beautiful face. Crap.
"Hey." He says.
"What do you want?" I ask, trying to seem annoyed instead of sad and hurt..
"Can we go back to being friends at least?"
"Cut the crap, I know your games." I say, glaring at him before turning around and putting both my earbuds in.

We had a short lab in Physics, and unfortunately, my lab group consisted of Neil, a girl named Sanjana, and Shiva. Luckily, Neil didn't talk about any of the shit that had gone down. In fact, he was really nice to me, which I didn't mind, though what he did still hurts like hell.
After Physics was study hall, as usual. I pull out my phone to text Saami.
Theera: Hey. I'm debating. Neil was so nice to me. Should I say okay with going back to being friends? He seems so sincere?
Saami: Hmm. I mean, he does. He wasn't like the other idiots who did those dares. He came up to u yesterday, but also today. No one does that for dares. But then again, it's ur call.
Theera: I know. That's why I'm wondering. In Physics, we had a lab, and he was so nice to me even after what happened at lunch.
Saami: Hmmm. Yeah, he's a nice guy. If you want to, then sure.
Theera: Yeah. I mean, I might as well do something with the life I have left.
Saami: Don't say that! You'll get better!
Theera: Mmm. yeah. I'll talk to him now.
Saami: K. keep me posted.
Theera: K will do
With that, I put my phone away and stand up, stretching lightly. Neil is sitting in the last row, and I'm near the middle. I took a deep breath before walking up to him and holding my hand up.
"Hey." I say. "High-five?"
He looks up at me, his beautiful, gray eyes glowing with happiness as he gives me a high-five.
He suddenly stands up and hugs me. I'm shocked, and just stand there as he moves away.
"Sorry." He mutters, looking down and fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. It's very cute, seeing him flustered.
"It's okay." I say with a smile. I clap him on the shoulder before walking back to my seat and updating Saamiya.
I just hope I can keep from staring at him. I mean, I did vow never to tell him, until my tumor goes away, that is...if it goes away.
But I'm happy to talk to him. At least I can talk to him, even if I can't be with him. I'll work with what I have.
Ok, another short chapter, but the next one will be longer. So, thoughts on this chapter? Do you think it was a good idea for Theera to go back to being friends with Neil? And do you think Neil is being sincere? Let me know in the comments!
