Chapter 27

The floor in-between us started to split open. It was as if the own ground was eating itself. Without thinking, I grab Mark's/Dark's back and pulled him over towards me before the ground gave way.

Behind me I heard Alexa scream as a weird black goo started to emerge from the increasingly growing gap in the floor.

What the hell? I stare at it in disbelief.

"Cry!" I heard Vinny shout. I glance up only to see Cry, Felix and Ken disappear from sight as the ground gave way from underneath my own feet.

A hand flashes out and grips my wrist tightly. I glance up and saw brown eyes stare back down at me. It was Mark.

"God you're heavy," he mutters, pulling me back up away from the angry black goo.

I ignore the comment and glance around. Cry, Ken and Felix stared back at us. Eyes wide. I knew what I had to do but whether or not the others would cooperate was beyond me. They wouldn't know what I had to do. It would make this less painful for them to realize what I had to do.

The only problem is I wish I would've saw this sooner. Then a lot of people wouldn't have had to die.

"Vinny, get Alexa and Mark out of here," I said, rather calmly for what I was about to do. Vinny's  purple eyes widen. Did she know?

"But what about the others? What about-" She was cut off as the roof above us started crumbling.

"Vinny, listen to me! Get out of here. Don't worry about anything."

"But-"

"Do you trust me?"

"Jack I-"

"DO YOU TRUST ME!" I screamed at her. Tears started running down her face as she nods. She gathers the screaming Alexa up in her arms, grabs Mark's wrist and started running in the other direction, away from the chaos. I turn my attention back towards the three that were huddling together. Cry was holding Felix who looked like he was fixing to break any second.

"I need you guys to trust me okay?" They nodded. "You're not going to die, okay?"

"H-h-how would y-you know that?" Felix stammers out. I sigh.

"I just do, okay?" Something crashes behind me and I don't flinch. I just had to accept what's fixing to happen. "I need you to jump across the gap and fast before it grows bigger!"

At first, all three of them hesitated. My patience was growing ice thin. Before I could open my mouth and yell at them, Ken ran and leaped across the still growing gap in the floor. "Don't look back, just run!" And Ken did just that.

"Come on Fefe, we'll jump together okay?" Felix nods as Cry takes a hold of his hand and they both ran. Both made across but just barely.

"Keep running guys! I'm right behind you!" I yell. But in reality I wasn't behind them. I wasn't even running. I just stayed put as the black liquid pools over the gap.

This was my fate. I had to accept it.

Because Mark was so stubborn and persistent in rescuing me. If only they had left me in the game. If only they had let me die like I was suppose to, none of this would've ever happened.

I was suppose to be dead. If I die, all of this would stop.

I didn't realize my fate until last night. Through a dream I had, showing me what would happen to my remaining friends who were still alive if I lived.

I didn't want them to die. Not the painful way as it had shown me. No, this had to end once and for all.

Gripping Anti's green soul pendant he gave me, I felt tears well up in my eyes.

"I'm so sorry," I whispered to nobody in particular. "I never meant for you or anyone to die." And how Dark finally figured out the truth was beyond me and I will never know.

Closing my eyes, I let myself fall forward towards the black liquid that was spewing out of the gap. I took one final breath and let the darkness overcome me.

The one thing I wasn't expecting to hear was his voice drowning everything else out.

Silly boy, I won't let you die.
