Chapter 9
Max woke up to high pitched squealing. He rolled over to see David doing a happy dance. Max chuckled wasn't he supposed to be the kid. "What is it this time David" Max tried to make it come out as annoyed, but couldn't help, but chuckle a little. "Percy just texted me; he already got us a court date!" David exclaimed. "soooooo" max drew out. "So we're one step closer to being our own happy little family" David exclaims, his eyes even shinning in excitement. He grabs Max's hand in an attempt to get him to happy dance with him, but Max just pulls away rolling his eyes in mock annoyance.
Max goes to get coffee while David goes wakes the other campers for breakfast. Once breakfast is served and devoured David has everyone meet at theater camp for a very important announcement. "So since you campers have been so good and since summer Christmas worked out so well I decided we could have a summerween." The chattering of campers grows louder. "will there be candy" "what about costumes" "We need a cool party" "Scares we need scares!" "We'll have all of that" David says gleefully. "But I thought for costumes we could all decide who get what costume" All of the campers cheer happy at this news. After voting it is decided that Ered will be an 80's rocker, Max will be grumpy cat, Nikki will be Sally from the nightmare before Christmas, Dolph will be a toy soldier, Neil will be a cowboy, Space kid was obviously the astronaut, Nurf was a giant middle finger, Nerris was a cute rabbit, Harrison was a ghost, Preston was a king, Gwen was a crayon, and David was a pine tree. Once everyone got into their costumes they used Dolph's art camp to make spooky decorations to hang up in the mess hall for the party tonight. With how strict Dolph was being there were no doubts that the decorations were going to look fabulous. Even the usually pessimistic Max was so engrossed in making decorations he didn't even notice David sneak off to hide candy for everyone around the forest. He was so ready to scare David with his mask tonight. By the time the decorations were finished David had returned and sent them to look for the hidden candy. Max was having fun until he felt eyes on him. He saw no one, but his body was on high alert. Max tried to calm himself down, he knew he was a paranoid person, but no matter what he still felt eyes. Max just couldn't understand it; usually, the forest was the place that calmed him down the most. The spacing of the trees made him feel safe. The smell of the air would help center him. The sight of the trees growing high into the sky would give him hope. The feel of the chill air would give him something other than feeling so damn numb. But today was different. He felt scared here and now. Something was wrong. Eventually, it got so bad Max gave up looking for candy and just went back to camp to hang around David. David tried to find out why Max came back so early, but not wanting to be any more of a bother than he already was he just said he was annoyed of the stupid game.
