Chapter 2
Max froze as a hand grasped his shoulder. "What are you doing outside your tent at this hour" David asked trying his best to sound strict. Max's mind raced yet he couldn't think of a good excuse and there was no way he was telling him the truth. "Is that laundry" David took his hand off Max's shoulders to inspect what Max was doing. It was now or never. Max panicked and ran as fast as he could into the woods leaving his laundry behind. He was not ready to deal with this. "Max" David fiercely whispered wanting the boy to come back, but not wanting to wake the other campers. Madly Max dashed between trees until his legs could no longer stand to carry his weight any longer and gave way leaving him on the ground panting heavily. Max tried to calm down, but couldn't. Loud wails left his mouth as he cried. He knew eventually he would have to go back. He couldn't survive in the woods by himself, but he really didn't want to face David. He knew he would ask all these questions that he just wasn't prepared to answer. His eyes grew heavier and Max knew he would be in for another battle. Max eventually entered yet another not so peaceful sleep. Max often had night terrors, he couldn't remember when they started it just felt like he always had them. Tonight he dreamt about his dad. His loud voice chastising the child. Max crawling into a corner hoping for protection from the giant. The man began kicking him over and over again. Max flailed his arms desperately trying to stop the blows. His hearts pounding increased. Max screamed at the top of his lungs. Blood oozing out of his mouth. Eventually max woke up to that damn shiny sun tired as ever and wet. Not only would night terrors leave Max scared out of his mind, but for some reason everytime he had a night terror he would wet himself in his sleep. Max looked down in disgust. He felt so childish. Max definitely couldn't be seen going back into camp in the current state he had just left himself in. He decided to wait until everyone was asleep again to sneak back and just tell everyone he got lost on a walk, seemed reasonable enough right? As for David Max supposed he could just ignore the fool until he left him alone. As the day went on the pain in Max's stomach increased. He was starving. Now he really wished he'd listened to David when he was talking about poisonous and nonpoisonous berries. Max laid in the middle of the woods full of self pity waiting for night to yet again fall.
