Chapter 12: King of Titans

After a three sided Witches' Duel, Luz was happy to be home. But not just because she had survived Grom without facing her worst fear.

Tomorrow was the big day. The day she cherished with all her heart. King's adoption.

She remembered the day like it was yesterday. And she would NEVER forget it.

Luz was 5 years old, and just skipping rocks across a pond. She giggled as she grabbed another stone and skipped it across the lake.

Sadly though, the stone sunk at the third skip.

Luz pouted before shrugging and was about to head back home until she heard...whimpers.

"Hello?" Luz called out, cupping her pointy ear to try and see if anyone responded.

The whimpers only grew, but no response.

Luz then ran across the weeds, heading the whimpers get louder and louder until they were as loud as ever. She looked around, but whatever the source was, it wasn't left, right, or up.

So? She looked down and then gasped.

There was a tiny creature there. Black fur, a tiny and fluffy tail, and a skull either attached or on top of its head. They had horns, but one of them was broken.

The piece was on the ground.

The creature almost looked like it was...crying.

Luz quickly knelt down. "Hey, friend. Do you have an owie?"

The creature looked at Luz, and whimpered, but not in fear. It suddenly hopped onto Luz's lap, seeking comfort.

Luz smiled softly and then picked up the puppy. "Don't worry! Everything okay! Mama will help you get better!"

She took the little pup to her mother later that day, and long story short? They adopted him, despite not knowing what he actually was.

Luz then made a collar for the little creature. The creature thought it was a crown, and wore it as a headband.

Luz laughed. "It's not a crown! You're silly!"

The creature smiled before the collar fell off. The creature pouted, but Luz held him close.

"It goes like this!" She said, gently wrapping the collar around his neck.

The creature gasped and then cuddled up on Luz's lap again, his tail wagging rapidly.

After a while? Luz personally gave him a name and used her magic to engrave the name on the creature's collar.

King.

"Luz! Luz!" King cried, lightly shaking her. "It's the day!"

Luz's eyes snapped open and she smiled, standing out of her bed and spinning King around in her arms. "Happy Adoption Anniversary!~" She sang.

King smiled and laughed. "Yes! Yes! It's my day!"

"The day I found you with your cute little body!" Luz giggled, tickling King's stomach.

King laughed and laughed. "Stop it! Hahaha!"

"Alright, alright." Luz smiled as she gently set King down. "There! Now, let's get breakfast, shall we?"

King smiled and nodded, following his owner down the stairs, and then crawled onto a chair.

Luz went into the kitchen, deciding to make King some waffles, since she wasn't an expert at cooking or baking.

Eda yawned as she stepped into the living room. "Huh?"

"Morning, Eda!" Luz smiled with a wave.

Eda chuckled before looking at King. "What's got you so happy?"

"It's my day!" King smiled simply.

Luz laughed. "It's the anniversary of when I found King as a little pup, and adopted him!" She then gasped. "That reminds me! I've been saving this!"

"Saving what?" Eda asked as Luz rushed back up the stairs and then came back down with a small box, wrapped in colorful paper.

"This!" Luz smiled as she placed it in front of King. "I made it myself!"

"Is this an outfit?" King asked as he used his tiny claws to unwrap the paper.

"More like part of one." Luz smiled as the waffles popped out of the toaster and she went to prepare them.

King then opened up the box once the wrapping paper was off and then? He gasped.

Inside was a small crown, just big enough for his little head. And the best part? It was golden, sparkling, and shiny.

"Remember the monster that threw up gold over me?" Luz laughed. "Well! I used a bit of magic and made you this!"

"HEY! YOU SAID THAT WAS ROTTEN MUSTARD!" Eda exclaimed.

"I didn't want you stealing my clothes." Luz snorted. "But don't worry, some of the gold is still-"

She then saw Eda practically dash up the stairs. Luz sighed and laughed before looking at King. "Well?"

"I...LOVE IT!!!!" King exclaimed as he quickly put on the crown. "YES!!! IT'S WORTHY FOR ME!!!!"

He then hopped down his chair and went over to Luz, hopping up and hugging her leg. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Luz smiled and patted King's head. "No problemo! A king shouldn't be without a crown!"

King just smiled before hearing a buzz.

Luz reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone...which Eda was somehow able to afford.

Unless she stole it.

Luz tapped it and then she sighed. "Oh, of course."

"What? What's wrong?" King asked.

"Griffin." Luz said with a roll of her eyes before she put her phone back in her pocket and knelt down. "I'll be back in a flash, my little King! Mwah!" She said, kissing his forehead before summoning her staff and flying off.

King's wide grin turned into a bit of a sour frown. Luz was having to fight monsters so much more lately. At first, it seemed to be once a week. But now, it seemed to be whenever Luz was busy with something or exhausted.

Eda then came back, clutching a jar filled with golden...mush to her chest. She then saw King and set the jar aside. "You okay?"

"I...guess I wish Belos and Golden Guard couldn't make another portal." King said as he sat on his chair again, looking at his breakfast that Luz made for him. "We've...been so happy here. Luz is my only family...Camilla used to be my family too before The Emperor took her away...I don't wanna lose Luz too. She's exhausted and tired, that it makes me think one day...she won't be prepared."

Eda's eyes softened. "Y'know...maybe you're right. No one is invincible or unstoppable. But one thing I do know? Luz doesn't back down, even when she's beaten. She'll always get back up especially when she has a reason to fight."

She then sat down next to King. "When you have someone to fight for? You practically ARE invincible. Yeah, no matter how much you love someone, you may not always win the fight. But? It definitely gives you the strength to keep trying." She then pet King's head. "No matter what Belos throws at the kid? She's gonna be a-okay. Know why?"

"Why?" King asked.

"Cause we're right behind her." Eda smiled.

King smiled at that too before he heard Eda's phone buzz. Eda's eyes then widened.

"W...What's wrong!? Is Luz okay!?" King exclaimed.

"Y-Yeah...the battle's over." Eda said with a sigh of relief. "Luz just- OH GOD!"

She then ran out the door. "HANG ON, KID!!!!"

King began to panic, and realizing Eda had dropped her phone, looked at it. In a live video, Luz was STILL fighting The Griffin, but it...was different.

Their eyes were red, and their wings were almost gigantic along with the rest of its body. And Luz was on the ground, struggling to keep fighting.

King's hands began to shake. "L-Luz! Please! G-Get up!"

Luz eventually did so, but was swatted across the road by the Griffin's wings.

"NO, NO, NO! MOM!!! PLEASE!!!!" King cried, shaking the phone before he eventually dropped it and it fell onto the floor.

Then? Something snapped in King and his yellow eyes...turned red. King clenched his fist before his crown fell off his head. King fell on all fours on the couch.

His claws began to grow, spikes began to grow on his furry and fluffy spine, his teeth became razor sharp, and his horns became elongated, even the broken one.

King, now the size of a fully grown wolf, roared before pouncing at the phone, and then leaping out the door.

Luz stood, gripping her staff as she panted. "When...did this thing get harder to beat?"

The Griffin hissed and roared, its beak opening and shooting out some kind of green goo AKA a non lethal, but harmful poison.

Luz quickly dodged and shot out a beam of light from her staff, but the Griffin just folded itself into its wings, blocking the beam.

The Griffin then roared, beginning to slowly walk over to its prey.

Luz fell to her knees, having already been affected by the poison. Griffins' poison was temporary and like said earlier, not lethal, but it could weaken the prey long enough to be a Griffin's next meal.

The Griffin roared before it heard multiple footsteps rapidly tapping the ground. The monster turned its head before suddenly being SLASHED in the eye. The Griffin roared and roared being tackled to the ground.

Luz looked up before her eyes widened. "K...King?"

King roared and bit at The Griffin's neck with his razor sharp fangs. The Griffin roared and roared, falling onto its stomach. It attempted to fly, but King then bit one of the Griffin's wings.

The Griffin shot out multiple balls of its poison, but it just fell onto the road...until one of them landed on The Griffin's head.

King bit at the monster's neck again, but not to make it bleed out. Instead, he started to spin the creature around until The Griffin slammed against the building.

Adding the poison to its injuries caused by King, The Griffin died.

King panted and panted, growling before looking at Luz.

"M-My little King..." Luz whispered.

King's eyes widened before his eyes turned from red to yellow and his body shrunk back down to its little size. "M...Mama...?"

Luz's eyes widened and she rushed over, feeling the poison wear off. She then scooped King into her arms. "Oh, my little baby! Are you okay!?"

"I...I'm okay...what happened?" King asked before hearing the screeching of tires.

"KID!!!" Eda cried out, not wanting to say Luz's name out loud just in case SOMEONE was still around. "Are you okay!?! You-"

"I'm okay. King...saved me!"

"He...what?" Eda asked, walking over.

"I did?" King asked.

"King, how did you do that?!" Luz exclaimed.

"I...what did I do?"

Meanwhile...

Belos sat on his throne, cracking open a palisman with his claws and then pouring the liquid magic into the eyeholes of his mask. He felt rejuvenated and sighed.

Then? The orb on his staff glowed and showed a small screen of The Golden Guard.

"My lord. I have another report." Golden Guard said.

"This best be worth my time." Belos said.

"If my theory is correct? It most certainly is." Golden Guard said with a nod. "So...umm...did The Titan ever have any descendants?"

"No. But there was the rare occasion of a halfblood." Belos explained. "Where a sudden birthing ritual would commence overnight and create a creature of both Titan and a random other. The halfblood is only able to use ONE magical ability inherited from The Titan. Another ability inherited would cause it to die." He then narrowed his eyes. "Why ask me this?"

"I...believe that I have found a halfblood. The Titans are rumored to have many magical abilities, one of which being able to turn into a beastly version of itself...and the demon? The one named King? He has shown this."

Belos was silent before he looked at an image of King, and then a scroll of The Boiling Isles, which was made from The Titan's corpse.

"...Interesting." Belos said before standing. "Thank you for your report."

"What should I do, my lord?" Golden Guard asked.

"Continue your mission. The halfblood will not get in the way." Belos said simply as he walked off, ending the call.

After arriving in his room...he took off his mask and set it on the floor. "My Titan. My Solider has found...a halfblood."

"A DESCENDANT OF MINE...? I THOUGHT THEY WERE EXTINCT EONS AGO."

"It seems one has survived, or perhaps is a child of another halfblood." Belos said.

"WHO...?"

"King, the pet of The Wild Witch, Luz Noceda."

"I SENSED NO MAGIC IN HIM...WHAT HAS CHANGED?"

"It will not matter, My Titan. The pet can unlock as many abilities as he likes. Even with this surprising attack, the second phase of our plan is still going perfectly." He then grinned. "Once Noceda is bloody and on the ground...I will personally make sure her pet follows."
