Chapter 8
The Mages
Aphmau's POV
"I'm sorry, what?" Emmalyn exclaimed.
"I want a book on interdimnsional travel." I said, doing my best to keep a strait face while looking at the look on confusion plastered across Emmalyn's features.
"Well... okay. You're the boss, I guess?" She stated, clearly uncertain. But, she took my hand and led me to the back of her library, under a sign that reads "Myths and Legends". She began to scan the walls, until she pulled down a thick purple book. The book had gold lettering in the top of the leather cover. "This is the only one I can think of. It's full of old legends, and I'm pretty sure one of them is about dimensions." She handed it to me, and I gave her a huge hug.
"Thank you so much. You're a life saver Emmy." Her nickname rolled off my tongue, a simple force of habit.
"Emmy? That's a new one~ I kinda like it though!" She smiled. I frown crossed my face. I hadn't meant to call her a nickname she wouldn't have been called before. Oh well, what is done is done.
I walked over to a table in the corner of library, and sat down, opening up the book, and flipping through. A quick look at the table of contents made it clear that what I wanted was a story called "The Five Mages" which was described as A story about those who harness elements of life to bridge different lives and cross through worlds. A eyes flashing across the page told me it was on page 211, so I flipped to it.
Once there was a time when all the worlds were one. However, this was not a good thing, for people would cross through worlds with no thought for what it would do to their home or the new world. It became impossible to tell who was who, and it threatened to rip the very fabric of the universe apart. From this tragic tale came five incredible witches and wizard. These wizards were able to use many different types of magic at incredible strength, each draw power from something that was important to them.
This individuals sacrificed their lifespans in order to tear the worlds apart, and spread the so far apart that travel between them should be impossible. It is unknown what happened to the wizards, or mages as the title was later given to them, but they are assumed dead.
I banged my head against the table. What good were they to us if they were already dead?
"Hey, what's happening over here?" Emmalyn came over.
"I-" I quickly came up with a lie. "I just think it's very sad that they had to die in order to do what they did."
"Who ever said they died silly?"
"The legend, right here, it says they had to sacrifice their life span and that they were never seen again."
"It's my personal opinion that they didn't die. If it did, the spell would have said that they would have to sacrifice their lives. It was clever writing of the story's author to instead have them stop aging, a possible alternate ending for the story."
"But that doesn't explain the fact that they were never seen again though."
"Ah! It could be because their power allows them to bridge the gap between dimensions, it is my believe that they simple left, in order to go somewhere that they can maintain the separation." She explained. "You shouldn't put so much stock in it, it's only a story." I sighed a little.
"Well, I should get going anyways. I'll take the book anyways?"
"Of course! Let me check you out."
