•Chapter 9•

Duncan and Ana looked confused, mouth agape with incredulity.

"What in the name of pizza dough are you doing in my house?" Anasia yelled at the stranger who was now eating a mouth full of pizza.

"I'll call the cops," Duncan suggested shrilly, pulling out his cellphone.

"No, wait. I'm Gabriel, Andrea's fia-" Before he could complete his sentence, Duncan pulled him into a hug. "-ncé . Surprise?"

She hadn't anticipated to meet him like this. He even looked better than in his photos.

But not as good as Kevin, of course. Wait no, I don't care about him.

"Welcome to the family!" Duncan exclaimed, catching both Ana and Gabriel off-guard.

Wow Duncan, way to go. Ana thought while shaking her head.

"But what are you doing here by yourself? Where is Drea?" Anasia asked peeping into the kitchen.

"We wanted to surprise you, but she got tired of waiting for you. So she's upstairs, having a bath," He replied smiling at her. "Sorry for giving you a fright, let me formally introduce myself. I'm Gabriel Cooper, I'm 26 and I'm a sheriff. And you are?"

"I'm Anasia Morgan and pizza is my life," She replied possessively.

He throws his head back laughing, "I see why your Drea's best friend." He said beaming at her.

Regardless of Gabriel being a sheriff, he was attractive— he was bald, yet attractive— not that most sheriffs were ugly... But Ana didn't like bald men. But with Gabe it was different, his gaze was shrewd but kind, and his smile was heart warming.

When Andrea mentioned that she was dating a sheriff, her best friend expected a hostile man but he was innocuous.

At first Ana was feeling melancholy, but at the same time happy for her friend; at least her love life was moving smoothly.

They spoke for a few minutes before Duncan came back from the kitchen with a bowl of pasta. "I'll be on my way upstairs now," Ana proclaimed.

It wasn't even up to a minute, but Gabriel and Duncan had already started joking and laughing. Ana couldn't help but chuckle, Duncan always sounded like a donkey when he laughed.

She trots upstairs ready to pounce on her best friend, she could already hear her singing in the shower.

This girl still thinks she can sing.

Slowly taking off her shoes, she turned off the lights in the bathroom and the bedroom. "Gabe baby, is that you?" Andrea asked sticking her face out of the shower.

Ana snickered, and hid behind the bedroom curtains. She knew that Andrea would come out of the bathroom, so she waited for her to open the door.

Rest assured that it was Gabriel, Andrea hissed and opened the just in time as Ana screamed 'boo!'

Andrea let out a frightening scream and slipped onto the floor, landing on her buttocks. "Why on earth will you do that?!" She yelled exasperatedly, trying to cover her private areas, in the dark. "Psychopathic maniac."

Ana had already turned on the lights, and was now laughing like a mad woman that took an overdose of pizza crust.

"Nice to see you too," Drea said sarcastically, whilst giving Ana a livid eye.

"Oh shut up and come here. I missed you banana head!" She threw her hands open and embraced her best friend tightly. "I thought you weren't going to come."

Their little reunion was cut short with a soft knock on the door, "Are you girls okay? We heard a bit of screaming and a thud... Who fell?" Gabriel asked rather teasingly.

"We are fine! Now shoo," His half-naked girlfriend yelled at the opposite side of the door.

Ana sat on her bed, whilst chatting with Andrea who was dressing. "Damn girl, did you boobs grow?" Ana asked checking out her friend's boobs.

"What do you think?" Drea shot back, with a smirk playing on her lips.

"Haha, anyway tell me everything. We have a billion things to talk about, you better not omit anything," Ana smiled, tying her black braids in a bun.

They chatted for what seemed like hours and later decided to make dinner together, just like old times.

"Dinner is ready!" Anasia declared, while setting the table.

"Finally, I've been starving." Duncan said faking hurt.

Anasia rolled her eyes at him, "Says the buffalo that ate pasta an hour ago."

"Hey! Take that back, don't hate on me."

They were all sat on the table, whilst Andrea prayed for the meal.

"It smells amazing, can't wait to indulge this meal," Gabriel complimented. "What did you pretty ladies prepare?" He asked, keen to start eating.

Anasia was about to reply, when Duncan cut her off, "I know that aroma anywhere, it's Kevin's favorite dish... Roasted chicken drumsticks and jasmine rice."

Ana went rigid, unable to move or speak. Her voice threatened to tremble at the sound of his name.

"So it's true, and you didn't tell me," Drea murmured.

Ana gave a bewildered look, "The hell do you mean, 'so it's true?' Explain."

"Take a look at this," Andrea said tersely, showing Ana her phone.

It was a picture of her and Kevin holding hands while walking into a club. That was the last time they went out together, on her birthday.

Gosh, I miss him. She sadly thought, signing in defeat.

"Uh what? There is nothing going on between us, he just was in the same club. And we decided to walk in together," She explained, lying through her teeth.

That lie didn't cut it for her best friend. "Right? What about this?" Andrea asked bewildered, showing her another picture of her and Kevin. They were walking out of the ice cream shop.

Andrea had an alluring bravado, she was gorgeous from head to toe. She was also black, just like Ana. Andrea liked being in control, she wanted to know everything. She was like an alpha female, soft delicate chocolatey skin. Ana admired her for her boldness and free spirt, she acted tough but she was as soft and cheesy.

"Is that the same guy? Pufft," Ana said trying to lie again, Duncan snorted but covered it up by coughing. Gabriel just sat there watching the drama unfold, while Andrea shook her head and continued eating.

The tension in the room was thick, and all Ana wanted was for the floor to swallow her.

After dinner Duncan and Gabriel called it a night, but Ana knew that the lying frog of a brother was probably using his phone; instead of sleeping.

"A.. You know you can tell me anything, why would you keep a big thing away from me?" Andrea asked as they were clearing the plates.

"Um it's a lot to take in, just make sure you're sitting." Ana mumbled.

"Girl, what do you mean sit down?" Andrea asked, dragging her words. "Nah, I'm sure it isn't that bad!"

By the end of the story Andrea had passed out of the floor, so much for 'nah, I'm sure it isn't that bad.' Ana thought smiling a bit.

What did she anticipate?

The next day. { P r e s e n t  T i m e }
"Ahahaha! So what did she almost fell off her desk?" Duncan asked idly, whilst popping in a handful of popcorn in his mouth.

"When I walked into her office she was sited on her chair, but as I walked out she was on the floor!" Kevin exclaimed, thinking he made a great joke.

"Well done, thank you very much," Duncan beamed.

Kevin smiled and patted his back.

Suddenly, there was loud knock on the door, Kevin snapped his head up and met Duncan's gaze, "Who do you think it is?"

"Well there is only one way to find out," Kevin replied nonchalantly.

He opened the door and was face to face with a very worried Rue, "What's up?"

"Your asking me what's up? Are you mentally stable? Your all over the damn news! What were you doing in a high school?" Rue spat out, clearly stressed.

Oh shityshoot. Kevin had completely forgotten about the media.

Rue shoved his iPad at Kevin, 'Rock star visits local high school.' — it read.

Duncan jolted up, as if lightening struck him. "Tell me this is a mirage, does that mean Ana has seen it?"

Three hours earlier.   { r e w i n d }
Ana dropped off her brother at his schools front gate and hastily speed up to her school.

He waited for his sister to drive off before he called Kevin, "H-hello? Kevin... I need your help. Please come and fetch me at school."

In less than 20 minutes Kevin came to help his little brother; that's how much he cared for Duncan.

"What happened?" Kevin asked, in a fretting tone.

After Duncan explained everything to him, Kevin then came up with a great plan to get him back to school; not after scolding him of course.

"Okay here's the plan," Kevin said and started narrating how they would get Duncan unsuspended from school without Ana knowing.

As Kevin walked into the school building, all the females that were passing the through the hall way stopped everything they were doing and stared at him. Some even started taking pictures of him, they tried to talk to him but like a boss— he walked straight to the principle's door and knocked on the wooded door.

Principle McPhee.

"Come in," a hostile yet shrill voice commanded.

He gently walked in with a fake smile on his face. Sited in front of him was a petite white woman, with blonde locks. Her blue eyes held power and confusion, she gave him a flirty smile— which indicated that she recognized him.

"What can I do for you, Mr. Cruz?" She asked beaming at him.

He blinked for a second or two, before he gave a beautiful wide smile. "You can call me Kevin, my dear."

I really need to get an award for this.

"I need your help," He started, "Can you un-suspend all students who have been suspended? I'm sure they won't mind detention or community service instead," He demanded, flashing her a bright cunning smile.

She couldn't resist it, for it wasn't everyday that a handsome rockstar would come to your office and ask for your help. "Sure thing," She obeyed like a puppy.

"Thank you, I'll be sure to reward you and your school... How about gratuitous concert tickets for you and all your school? You will be the guest of honor," He offered, "I'll be grateful if this conversation stays a secret."

God forgive me.

He stood up, and gave a her an innocuous peck on the cheek, before smiling weakly. And with that, he was out of there; leaving her dumbfounded on the spot, yet she was grinning from ear to ear.

{ b a c k  t o  p r e s e n t  t i m e }
There was another knock on Kevin's dark wooded door. This time it was Ana, she was ready to kick some arse.

"Open up, I know your in there," She her angelic voice yelled, as her small fist banged the door. "Y'all have some explaining to do."

Duncan instantly recognized her voice, and started pacing around the room like one of the penguins from the cartoon 'penguins of Madagascar'

Kevin immediately slapped him, "Calm the heck down! I'll handle this." He was a very good liar.

He unlocked to door and there she was; his woman. She stood before him wearing a green floral top, with a pair of skinny jeans. She was dressed casual, but it was enough to make him lobotomized.

He tried to control his self, his eyes bore into hers and all she could think about was his lips. How he gloriously caressed her cheeks, how. . . "-brings you here?" Kevin asked.

She shook her head, "What?" She asked, feeling stupid already.

Can't you talk like a normal person without sounding dopey?! She scolded herself. Ugh great now your talking to yourself. Dammit, shut up Ana! He is staring. Remember why your here stupid.

"What were you doing in Duncan's school?" Ana asked. "I saw you walking out when I went to drop off his lunch, the strange part was that Duncan was nowhere to be found," She said giving him 'the look'

"W-well we-" he was cut off by Duncan. "Well Kevin said he missed me, so he called me this morning asking if we could hangout and I lied to him saying I wasn't having classes. But it was just for today sis, I promise not to do it again," Duncan lied looking up at his sister with a melancholy expression.

"Of course it's going to be the last time your skipping, your grounded and no tv," Ana said crossing her arms.

Duncan shut his mouth not wanting to exacerbate the situation, "I'll be in the car," He said giving Kevin a weak smile.

Kevin and Ana were left alone, the silence was enough for Kevin... Just looking at her was satisfying, but he wanted more. And Ana wasn't helping, she was biting her lips, debating if she should ask him how he was after their breakup? She didn't have words to describe it.

"I should ah...g-go," She said chewing her lips.

"Come here Ana," He commanded, sending chills down her spine.

Deep breaths! Onetwothreefourfivesixseveneight. Oh my! His voice, calm down. Just walk away, walk away.

Sensing that she was about to go, he walked up to her and whispered into her ears— "oh no you don't."

With that, he gently attached his lips to hers. Fully tasting her mouth, enjoying how soft her lips were. He naughtily bit her lips, causing her to arch her back in shock.

"Ahem," Rue cleared his throat, making Ana jump up. She was flushed and her beautiful lips were swollen.

"I-I was j-just going, mm Duncan is waiting f-for me.." She said, fumbling with the door. Kevin noticed her attempt and helped her open the door; as she walked out, he smacked her soft buttocks causing her to walk faster. "It's mine though," He added, loud enough for her to hear.

"Well that went well," Kevin said, whilst closing the door. Rue rolled his eyes, causing Kevin to let out a heart warming laugh. "Indeed."

F l a s h b a c k .
Kevin was recording his last song for his new music album, his producer was proud of his star. He was a natural born musician, his voice always hit the right notes. His voice was perfect. At a young age his parents signed him up for a singing competition, that was where his talent was discovered. Soon after he started performing song covers.

His life was perfect, fame was there, his pet rabbit that his mother got him from his previous birthday. But it all changed with one phone call.

"Hello? Mom I told you already, I'll be coming in the evenin—"

"Sorry Mr. Cruz but this isn't your mother, I am calling from Santa Maria hospital... All your.. Your family has been involved in a tragic plane crash... I'm sorry."

He didn't want to hear more, his family? What was the man telling him? It didn't make sense, he saw his mother yesterday. No! It's a lie.

Kevin's life changed, with no family to be by his side nothing was the same.

But there was something Kevin didn't know, his mother survived. Her body floated to a nearby village, she would have contacted him... Only if she remembered what her name was, or if she once had a family.

Kevin should have gone to identify the bodies...
