IX - Dreams have meanings
~Percy~
"Get up seaweed brain."
I open my eyes and see a smiling Annabeth standing above me.
"Wha- how? I-"
Annabeth lets out a laugh of joy.
"Get up seaweed brain, we have classes."
She walks out of the dormitory and I bolt after her. I throw open the door and find that the common room has been turned into a small concert, with Annabeth as the main event.
There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch, and it's bringing me out the dark
Finally, I can see you crystal clear
Go ahead and sell me out, and I'll lay your ship bare
See how I'll leave with every piece of you
Don't underestimate the things that I will do
There's a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch, and it's bringing me out the dark
Her voice is so beautiful, and the way she's singing captures everyone's attention.
The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
I can't help feeling
Her singing is filled with heartbreak and pain. It constricts my heart in a vice like grip.
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
And you played it to the beat
(Rolling in the Deep by Adele)
She finishes her song and walks up to me. She presses her lips against mine in a passionate kiss. After a few minutes, she pulls away but now it's Alexandra, not Annabeth.
"Why did you betray me Percy? Why did you hurt me?"
Tears are streaming down Alexandra's face but I'm speechless. She leans in and presses her lips to my ear and whispers.
"Dreams always have meaning."
Alexandra runs out of the common room and the floor underneath me disappears. I fall into a damp room, lit by one measly candle next to a tall mirror. I look at my reflection in the mirror and see a vision of Annabeth and me sitting together on a sunlit porch, my hand resting on her swollen stomach. A little kid runs into the frame and I scoop him up and tickle him. Annabeth smiles at us with love. I feel liquid heat on my cheeks and realise that I'm crying. I wipe the tears away but I can't get that image out of my mind. A happy family with Annabeth, it's the one thing I want but she's dead.
A cold, heavy presence enters the room, making every molecule in my body freeze in place. I stay completely still as two male figures enter the room. One is tall and paler than the skeletons Nico summons, the other looks like all the first generation Olympians combined. He has a mix of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades eyes, the colours swirling together in a deadly mix with flecks of gold. His hair is a close cropped style like Jason's hair and dark like Hera's with glints of gold and brown running through his dark hair.
Kronos
But I don't know who the other guy is.
"I see that my grandchildren have arrived at Hecate's play world. Harry Potter and his two sidekicks are there as well. This is going to be an interesting year, don't you think Lord Voldemort."
The pale guy eyes Kronos with contempt.
"Yes, Lord Kronos, it will indeed be an interesting year."
The both of them laugh humourlessly and the room dissolves into nothingness. I bolt upright in my bed, sweat mixing with the tears pouring down my face. I grab fistfuls of my blanket and wipe my face on it. I look at the clock on my bedside table.
5:24 am
Groaning, I try to go back to sleep but Morpheus refuses me entry to the realm of dreams. Eventually, I get up and go to the training room. Did I mention that we had a training room? Well when we got to the common room there were three staircases; Girls, Boys and Exchange Students. We had boys and girls rooms as well but we had a training room too. Our dormitories look just like the ones the other Gryffindors have but we've all got our own personal touch somewhere in the room. For example, the room was a little bit darker around Nico's area, it smelt like a mix of ocean breeze and thunderstorms and there was an open fire right in the middle. The shadows on the wall took the form of several animals.
I throw open the training room doors and see Alexandra sparing with what I'm assuming is an enchanted dummy. She slashes, ducks, rolls and stabs while the dummy parries her attacks and tries some of its own. Her fighting technique seems familiar. Pretty soon, the dummy is just a pile of straw on the ground. I clap from the door and ten seconds later, a silver throwing knife is merely inches from my right cheek.
"Sorry, didn't see you Percy."
"Clearly."
She wipes the sweat from her forehead and eyes me suspiciously. The way she was studying me, it reminded me of.......... I take a sharp breath and try to hold the tears back. I bring out riptide and uncap it.
"You wanna do some sparring with me?"
She nods and pulls out a familiar celestial bronze dagger.
Annabeths dagger
Rage consumes me and I let out a guttural roar as I lunge forward at Alexandra. She sidesteps and jabs at my hand. I jump back and slash at her. She doges and rolls. We keep sparring for another ten minutes, both of us tiring and neither of us gaining the upper hand. Eventually, Alexandra puts up her arms in surrender and I lower my sword, grabbing the cap and changing it back into a pen, my anger disapparating but still lingering. I walk to her put out my hand to shake. She smiles and grabs it firmly, before judo flipping me over her shoulder and pining me to the floor.
"Looks like I won."
Then I did something that I haven't done in a while. I let out a genuine laugh. Alexandra helped me up and we stared at each other for about five minutes. I lean in but Alexandra moves away, tears swimming in her eyes. My face turned redder than Ron's hair.
"I'm sorry Alexandra, I don't know what came over me."
"It's, fine."
But it's not. That was such a stupid move. I leave the training room in a rush and head down to breakfast, grabbing my bag filled with spellbooks, parchment and ink. I plop my self at the Gryffindor table and start piling on food. I set the plate down and start nibbling on the food. I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn too see Alexandra.
"Uh hey Percy."
"Hey Alex."
"I just wanted to say that-"
"No,"
I cut her off.
"I'm sorry for doing that earlier, it was a stupid move. Forgive me?"
Her shoulders relax and she gives me a smile.
"All is forgiven. See you in class?"
"Sure."
She smiles at me again and I smile back. I watch her walk away before returning to my eggs. Moments later, a small hand slams the table next to me, flipping my plate and sending my food flying. I turn around and see Lily glaring at me.
"Why was she talking to you? You're not allowed to talk to other girls. You're mine."
If you're wondering why she's so close, it's only because of the quest. I have to let her near me so that it doesn't look suspicious. Anyway, usually I would just ignore her and tell to go away. But her saying that I'm hers, as if I'm an object she can possess, that crosses the line. Anger bubbles up inside of me and before I know it, I have my wand pointed straight at her face. Lily goes cross eyed looking at the wand, but her face fills with terror.
"Get it through your head,"
My anger becomes a vat of acid, ready to be unleashed.
"WE ARE NOT TOGETHER!"
The anger flows out of me and into the words I'm yelling.
"I AM NOT AN OBJECT YOU OWN! YOU TOOK AWAY THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!! YOU PUT THROUGH HELL AGAIN!!! SO GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL!!! I HATE YOU!!! WE WILL NEVER BE FRIENDS AND WE WILL NEVER, EVER BE TOGETHER!!!" I yell until all the anger spills out of me, but I don't lower my wand. "You got that?"
Lily's face flushes redder than her hair. She starts to draw her own wand but I momentarily flick my wand down to her pocket and her wand flies out of her pocket and into my other hand. When Hecate chose us for the quest, a few days later she came back and briefed us on the world, gave us our books and stuff and gave us basic seventh year knowledge. Anyway, I watched as her face drains of colour and her eyes fill with terror. I step back, keeping my wand trained on her, and think of a curse to cast on her.
"Alarte-"
"Expelliarmus!"
A spell knocks both wands out of my grip and into the hands of two people. I turn around and see Harry and Hazel holding two wands each. Hazel walks up to me and glares at me.
"Perseus Jackson! What in the name of Tartarus were you thinking?"
I stared at her in shock. She's never yelled at anyone, well, any demigod. Except Lily.
"I- uh...."
"Nevermind that, Percy, you are so luck there aren't any teachers here-"
"I couldn't care less if I got in trouble."
I glare at Lily again.
"If it means keeping that thing away from me, getting in trouble is worth it."
Harry and Hazel look at Lily in shock. The rest of the group choose that moment to come down for breakfast.
"Oi Harry! What's for breakfast?"
Everyone goes still when they see the four of us. Everyone stops in their tracks and a deadly silence settles over the great hall. The clacking of heels on stone echos around the hall until McGonagall comes up behind the group and clears her throat. The group practically jumps out of their skin and the whole hall erupts into laughter. McGonagall smiles and hands out our timetables. I glance down and see that we have a double Defence Against the Dark Arts with slytherin. Groaning, I sit back down and refill my plate. After shovelling all the food into my mouth, I get up with everyone and head to DADA. Before I leave the hall, I hear someone call out
"Mr Jackson!"
I turn around and see McGonagall gesturing for me to come towards her. I walk up to her uncomfortably and stand in front of her.
"Yes professor?"
She glances at me critically.
"I know that you're a demigod Mr Jackson."
I glanced around to see if there were anymore students. McGonagall and I were completely alone.
"I would like you to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts. I want you to teach my students to fight on every odd day, Miss Granger and Miss Noimosýni to teach theory on every second day."
I probably should have said something smart or sophisticated but all that came out of my mouth was
"Uh, ok. I'll be sure to tell the girls."
And with that I turned around, walked right out of the hall and to my new class.
