Chapter 4

Bloom POV

After getting used to the tools Tecna gave us, we prepared for the show. We decided that Musa, Stella and I would perform while the other three scanned the crown for our culprits. Of course, we weren't expecting to definitely find them, but it was worth a try.

Then, some of us would swap with those on stage and in the crowd, depending on how things went. That's why the three of us had the scanners, even though we were performing.

"Can we help?" A voice in my ear makes me jump.

"Pixies!" I turn to see the floating figures, "I thought we told you to stay in the shop with Roxy?"

"Well, we overheard Roxy's conversation on the phone and we really wanted to help," Lockette says before frowning, "what you are doing is very dangerous!"

"Yeah," Chatta flies to my attention, "what exactly are you gonna do if you find whoever it is we're looking for?"

"We?" I laugh, "oh no, no, you were told to stay put. As Lockette said, this is dangerous. I know you want to help, but don't worry, we have it under control."

"Please?" They plead in unison.

I look around for any of the other girls. They weren't around, so I didn't have anyone to ask an opinion. I sigh, "oh alright. But all of you stay hidden."

They nod happily, although I knew they were just agreeing to make me happy. I sigh, they'll be fine I suppose. I'll just let the girls know to keep an eye on them.

It was around midday, and the show wasn't for a few hours. We didn't have long so we knew we had to advertise quick and spread the word as much as possible.

"But people might already have plans for tonight. We need to make it interesting so people really want to come," Aisha suggests.

"What do you have in mind?" I ask her.

"Well, we could donate some money to charity? Maybe Roxy can pick what one since she spends more time here. We could also give away prizes!" She continues.

"Like what?" Musa asks, taking a sip from a smoothie, unknowingly giving me an idea.

"Vouchers for free smoothies! Or discounts, thinks like that. We should ask Rick first, though," I add.

"Yeah! A few of us can spend a while advertising. Leaflets, posters, thugs like that," Flora smiles.

Stella nods, "I could do that with you. I'm good with people."

We laughed, and Flora and Stella began their way around Gardenia to advertise the event for later tonight. We needed everyone to know. They may also have used a little magic to make sure the local new station got word about it, but we definitely had no involvement in that at all.

We spent the rest of the day preparing, and eventually were ready to perform. Flora, Tecna and Aisha, according to the plan, would search the crowd for traces of magic similar to what we found at Alfea. The crowd was huge, even bigger than we had expected. It seemed that many people were excited about our return to performing, and I had high hopes for success seeing the huge turnout.

We began our performance and the crowd cheered, and while I was singing I noticed from the corner of my eye the three girls trying to secretly search the crowd, earning a few confused glances, although the crowd was mainly focused on us as I had hoped.

This crowd is huge. There's no way they'll search even half of it at the rate they're going. This could be a long night, I thought, when we swap we're going to have to be even faster.

We finished our third and final song, saying our thanks and goodbyes to the audience. They gave one last cheer and we went offstage, meeting the girls backstage where we could not be seen by the crowd.

"How did you do?" I ask.

"Not great," Flora frowns, "it's huge! And do search each individual person is extremely time consuming. Then we need to make sure we don't get caught and have to start again sometimes."

"There's no way we'll get them all done in time," Aisha shakes her head, "even with Tecna we couldn't do it fast enough. It was worth a shot, I guess, but I hope you three can do w better job."

"We'll do our best," Musa nods as the three of us take out our devices.

"Have fun performing!" Stella smiles and we separate.

On the ground, the crowd seemed even bigger than I originally thought. People were jumping, moving, shouting, and I found myself being constantly distracted. I pulled out my "device" and pointed it at the person in front of me.

No match detected, it read.

At least I know it works, I thought, pointing it at the next person along, trying not to get shoved by some people in the crowd.

No match detected.

I kept scanning and scanning the crowd as much as I could, until eventually I saw the words, Match Detected!

I gasped, looking up. Then, my face fell, "Stella!"

"Huh?" She turns round, not looking up from her screen.

"Never mind," I shake my head, "this is impossible."

"No kidding! I've only checked about six people in the past two songs! I can't do it!" She sighs frustratedly.

Needless to say, our mission was unsuccessful, and when the crowds mostly left and we had sorted out our charity donations and prizes, we sat down at one of the tables inside the bar.

"Well that was awful," Stella rests her chin in the palms of her hands, her elbows propping her up on the table.

"Maybe not," Tecna pulls out her laptop and sets it on the table once again. She then takes out her "device" from earlier and walks around the entire bar, where the crowd was. She sets it on the table, taking something out of it and putting it into her laptop.

Match Detected!
