Chapter 3
Tecna POV
I couldn't help but overhear the conversation between the pixies and pets as I worked on my computer.
"Oh, please be careful," Amore anxiously pleaded, I looked up and they didn't seem to be doing anything too dangerous, so I shrugged it off.
"Oh relax," Chatta sighs, "trust me, this is going to work!"
It's not long before I hear shrieks from the pixies. I stand up from my desk and quickly walk over to them. They had managed to flood one of the pet-baths with extremely bubbly water and it was rapidly spilling out onto the floor.
Quickly, I wade through the bubbles and find the tap, turning it off. I turn to them and fold my arms, "well? What was that all about?"
Lockette frowns, "we thought that if we knew how to run the shop you wouldn't have to work so hard! You would be able to focus on the mission!"
"Aww, that's nice, but don't worry," I smiled.
"Yeah," Flora, who I had no idea was behind me, joins in the conversation, "we can handle both at the same time. Besides, we could hire Roxy's friends at the weekends when it's busiest, but we appreciate the help."
The pixies smile. I finally sit back at my computer, but after a few minutes something else catches my attention. Stella, very loudly, seemed to be re-decorating the shop, although she had only just done it a few days ago.
"Hmm- but if we- no, that wouldn't go with the curtains," she nibbles her fingernail, clearly deep in thought.
I look around the busy shop, at least everyone else if focused on the mission and not curtains. Oh well, I guess if we're undercover we have to be convincing, and great curtains surely do the trick, I thought sarcastically.
A loud thud snaps me out of my daydream, "Stella!"
"Yeah, yeah, I know," she picks up different rolls of wallpaper and some files which had fell onto the floor, "hey Tecna, shouldn't you be working on the mission? We all need to contribute, you know."
Clenching my jaw, I concealed my anger with a sigh, "yes, I was just about to do that."
Is she even listening? And why isn't she just using her magic? I look back up to find her already busy once again, finally, some peace and quiet to get back to work.
I was usually able to tune out from background noise but today seemed to be different. The shop seemed to be bustling with customers even though it was a weekday, which from what I could remember was unusual. Everyone had seemed to notice our return and it was great for business.
I hope we don't draw too much attention to ourselves, it could be bad for the mission. Well, it's too late now I suppose.
We close early in the afternoon- we weren't here to work the shop too much so we decided to close early. As we sat down, Aisha spoke, "we need to take action before another fairy goes missing."
"What do you think we should do, Aisha?" Flora asks.
"Well, whoever it is probably is hiding here undercover, using somewhere in this town as a hideout and will try to blend in with the people," she continues, "and maybe, if we got lots of people to gather in the one place at the same time we'd have an easier chance of finding our kidnapper. Well, kidnappers. We don't know."
"What if we found a way to draw them out?" I ask, "we'd have no way of narrowing it down in a short space of time, but what if we gathered as many people as possible to the one place at the same time?"
"The Frutti Music Bar!" Stella gasps, "what if we performed there tonight?"
"Tonight?" Bloom repeats, "I don't know, that seems a little too soon."
"Why not? The sooner the better!" Stella smiles excitedly.
"Why don't we go and talk to Rick, see what he thinks," Flora suggests and we agree.
We make our way to the Frutti Music Bar, and I felt extremely nostalgic. Even the smell of the place reminded me of the fun we used to have. We sit at the bar, waiting for Rick to appear. He probably already knew we were here, as even though Roxy stayed in the shop she probably called him to let him know we were coming.
"Hey girls!" Roxy's father greets us with a smile on his face. We talk to him for a while before asking about the plan. He agrees, as we assumed he would, and lets us set up the stage for our performance.
"It feels just like old times," Musa smiles and we nod in agreement, it really does. When we perform it'll be even better.
"Okay, so we'll have the microphones here and-" Bloom explains the setup for the show. After laying everything out, we sit on the edge of the stage, hearing the whispers of everyone dining at the bar.
I set up my laptop and other mission-related items I brought with me.
"What's all this?" Stella asks as she and the rest of the girls sit down.
"Well-" I open the laptop, "-this tracker on my laptop isn't very specific. It helped us get here, but it can't be more specific, it won't give a building or a place, for example."
"That makes sense," Aisha nods, "the magic is probably very strong and will protect its holders to a certain extent. I think it's illegal to track someone so specifically, too."
"Yeah," I nod in agreement, "so, once we gather everyone together I can use this-"
"That looks like a taser!" Flora laughs.
"I guess it does," I giggle, "if I give it the information from this computer, it will recognise the magic traces we are tracking and if I aim it at someone, by pressing this button it will search for traces of the same magic. It doesn't need to be the owner, it can also be people who have been near them."
"Wow," Bloom picks the taser-looking object up from the table.
"Don't worry," I smile, "I got one for everyone."
