~ Day 2: Merry ~

AU: None

Context: Sabre telling Time about his people's holiday traditions, as the Steves have a Winter Solstice event instead of Christmas. They have similarities, like giving gifts to one another, but they're still very different and Time was curious as to how Sabre celebrates the season.

Sorry that this one is shorter than the last even though I said it'd be longer, I ran out of ideas like halfway through TvT

The next one's gonna be adorable though, and actually will be longer :>

============================================================

[Sabre's POV]

I wait in the living room with my mug of cocoa while watching out the window, waiting for Time to finish making his. Snowflakes stick to the glass for a split second, then disappear as they melt away from the warmth of the house radiating from the windows. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up snowed in tomorrow morning, based off of how much snow is coming down.

Soon enough, Time excitedly walks in and sits down on the couch across from me.

"Careful not to spill your cocoa on yourself, Time." I say as he fidgets around, getting comfortable.

"Oh please, I cook with hot liquid almost every day, I'll be fine." Time says, then looks up at me. "Now, can you start explaining your winter holiday? What was it called- 'Christmas'?"

"Yep, you got it." I smile. "Christmas back home is a bit similar to the Winter Solstice event here, like the gift-giving, but even that has it's differences. For one thing, it's not in celebration of the season itself. It just happens to be during winter."

"It isn't?" Time asks, surprised. "Well, what is it in celebration of then?"

"People celebrate it for a lot of different reasons, but the main one is being together even though everything's frozen over." I explain. "Some people kinda take that pretty seriously... one year, there was a blizzard and nobody could really leave their homes without risking injury on the ice. I was stuck at my house with one of my friends since he was visiting when the blizzard hit, but then our other friend went through all of that snow because he lived nearby and didn't want it to be just us on the holiday."

"That was both very thoughtful, and extremely dangerous." Time says, sipping his cocoa.

"It was, but we didn't really care at the time. We were just glad he came over." I say, remembering how long we called Ryan a numbskull afterward once we realized just how much ice there was out there. He didn't care, of course. It was Ryan; he'd totally do something like that.

"So, are there traditions that go along with it?" Time asks. "And what are other reasons people celebrate?"

I spend a long while talking with Time about Christmas, explaining everything to him and answering all his questions about it. He listens to everything I say, and actually seems really interested in the holiday. We talk even after it gets dark out, and eventually it gets late. As Time and I walk into the kitchen to put our empty mugs in the sink, we see all the snow that's piled up outside.

"Oh dang, looks like we are gonna be snowed in tomorrow." I say, seeing that the snow has become quite a few feet deep.

"Huh... oh well. Sounds like an excuse to stay in the house all day to me." Time smiles.

"Same." I smile back, laughing a little.

We talk a little bit more as we go upstairs after putting our dishes away, then we split off and go into our individual rooms. Before I go to bed, I look out my window towards the village. The snow covers everything beautifully, and the icicles forming on every roof glitter in the moonlight. The snowflakes still falling from the sky add more to the scene. It almost looks like the village was popped out of a snowglobe.

It's all so beautiful...

...Even though I'm not gonna be able to spend Christmas with everyone back home, I'm perfectly fine with spending it with all my friends here.
