Who Are You Really: Chap 5
Amelia's POV
"A werewolf?! You have got to be joking! They don't exist!" He held up his hand and I sat down after the realization that I had stood up.
"I know it's a lot to wrap your head around. All the born wolves here grew up their whole lives knowing what they are but you, your family wanted to protect you and they had a good reason. They wanted you to have a normal life and stay out of the war but they have probably realized that it was a mistake." I pressed my fingers to my temples and breathed in deeply catching the lovely scent of honey.
I turn around in my chair to see that sandy haired boy from before. He swallowed and gave me a dazzling smile that I'm sure made the girls melt since it had the same effect on me. "Sorry to interrupt alpha," he bowed his head down slightly. "but everyone is dying to meet the newcomer." Derek chuckled.
"Amelia this is Kaden Hudson, son of my beta."
"So beta is second in command right?" He nodded.
"Kaden will take his father's place when he completes his training." Kaden held out his hand and I shook it taking a moment before I let go. He had the prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen.
"Would you like to come outside and meet the rest of the pack?" Kaden asked keeping his eyes everywhere but me.
I looked at Derek as if asking for permission. "Okay." I answered after Derek nodded. I followed the gorgeous and shirtless Kaden outside into the yard I had seen before. Immediately heads shot in our direction making me blush. "Why are they so intent on meeting me?" I asked looking at all the werewolves before me. This is still hard to wrap my head around.
"You're new and unmated..." He paused looking over the crowd. "As you get closer to your seventeenth birthday you will change in loads of different ways. You'll be able to smell better, hear better and you'll be faster and stronger. You will also develop your own werewolf scent. For example to me you smell like strawberries and roses." I raised my eyebrow at him and looked away trying not to stare at his six pack.
"What do I smell like to you?" He asked.
"Honey and the woods." I answered blushing again.
"Wow she is adorable when she blushes!" Said a girl bouncing up the steps. "Hi my name is Vanessa, Kaden's sister and this is Jordan my mate." I looked between the siblings to see the similarities.
"Mate?" I asked after a few moments.
"She's new." Kaden interjected.
"So you never knew what you were until now?" Vanessa asked. I nodded, I still wasn't exactly sure what I was. The person I knew growing up was a lie this whole time. I didn't really know who I was anymore and it terrified me, "Well if you're going to stay here then you are gonna have to work for it. Training starts every morning at 5:30 am, then we go to school. But I'm pretty sure you won't have to do that." Vanessa blabbed on while I stared at Kaden. His face was full of amusement.
"I'll train her before I go to school, keep her out of the alpha's hands." Kaden said making Jordan's eyebrow shoot up. "Well it's almost time for breakfast. Would you like to have a walk around?" I nodded at Kaden's suggestion and followed him back through the house door.
"Thanks for that. Your friends like to pounce on people don't they?" Kaden chuckled softly.
"They're always like that. Through this door," He gestured to a large double wooden door with golden handles that glistened in the light. "This is the dinning room. It's quite large considering how many mouths we need to feed." We continued walking down the marble floors, I admired the paintings and decorations along the walls. "There's only a few people who live here, the rest live in the houses provided by the alpha, on our territory of course. My family lives here because my father is second in command but we can have a house if we'd like it." I nodded.
"How old are you?" I blurted out making his cheeks blush ever so slightly.
"I'm 17 turning 18 next month. I'll become the alpha's beta soon."
"Does Derek have any kids?" He nodded before turning towards me.
"He did. The alpha's son did not want his position as alpha. He ran away with his mate and hasn't been back in years. His second oldest son was drowned in sliver." I raised my hand to my mouth.
"I'm sorry." I said quietly.
"It's alright, but don't mention it to the alpha he's very sensitive about it." We began walking down the hall until we reached an enormous white marble stair case.
"So the legend about silver and werewolves is true then?" I asked as we began making the climb.
"It burns us like fire, we have a severe allergic reaction to it. We have a quick healing process but things like silver and wolfsbane slow that down. It can kill us if we are exposed to too much of it." He pointed to a white door and opened it.
"This is your room, my room is right across the hall. Breakfast should be shortly. You can sit next to me if you like." He averted his eyes as he blushed. "I'm gonna go get a shirt." I couldn't help but look down at his bare abs. Goodness he was ripped. A smirk appeared on his lips before he went across the hall and opened his door.
I sighed and shut my new bedroom door behind me. I turned around slowly and my breath was taken away. The bedroom was gorgeous. There was even a stone balcony that had a view of the yard. The bed was queen sized and decorated with a light brown quilt with a dark brown leaf pattern. I flung myself in the air and landed on the bed. I groaned in acceptance as I laid in this new bed. I wonder if I could stay in this bed all day.
I flipped over onto my back and stared at the ceiling. I missed my parents already, I hope they're all right. There was a sudden two taps on the door and it opened before I said come in. Kaden smiled at me and smelled the air.
"Breakfast is ready, if you would like to come down." I nodded and follows him down the stairs. The dinning room doors he had shown me before were now wide open and I froze in place at the sight of all these people. They were all talking loudly and laughing at each other stories but they all quieted down and turned their attention to me.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Derek boomed. "I'd like you all to meet our guest Amelia Winters, Steven's daughter. You will treat her with respect while she is here, is that clear." Everyone nodded their heads before the chatter picked back up. Food was shoved onto plates and into mouths. Kaden placed his hand on my back and pushed me until my feet moved. He basically shoved me in a chair before he sat beside me.
"Relax, we don't bite... well I wouldn't say that... never mind sorry." I laughed quietly making him smile.
He began loading his place with the breakfast food before us, but I noticed it was vanishing quickly. I managed to grab some eggs, a pancake and some bacon before it was mostly gone. "Do you know how long you are staying?" Asked Kaden with his mouth full. I shrugged my shoulders as I took a sip from my glass.
"I don't know how long I'll be here. I have no idea what my parents are up to." The grandfather clock in the corner began to chime making me jump. Heads shot up and people started to leave.
"I have to get to school, don't get into too much trouble while I'm gone." Kaden said before he chugged the rest of his orange juice.
I watched as most of them left leaving me to eat. I had a feeling like this was going to be a long day.
Sebastian's POV
All these people had it easy. Humans I mean. I was once a human yes, but I wasn't grateful before for my humanity. It was the only thing that really kept my feet planted. They all walked around like there was nothing wrong in the world. They had it good considering they didn't know what kinds of monster lived among them. Amelia was gone and I had to pretend like everything was okay. That there wasn't a werewolf war on the horizon, that Megan didn't hate me and most of all that the vampire population wasn't increasing.
"Sebastian!" I snapped my head up to see my coach charging towards me. Oh God. I was almost two inches taller than him but he still tried to intimidate me with his stance.
"Coach I can explain-" he laughed.
"Oh I don't need an excuse." he laughed again and pointed his finger at my face. "Tonight you'll be running suicides until you die! It'll be the first suicide run that ends in actually suicide!" I swallowed.
"Yes coach." and with that he marched off yelling at some kids to take their hats off.
"Wow you are going to die." I started to walk away ignoring Tyler's comment.
"Look man, I'm sorry. I should have stopped him from doing that to you." I chuckled and turned to face him.
"Is that your way of apologizing?" I chuckled again while rubbing my face, "I am not going to forgive you for this. I can't trust you anymore Ty, so you can forget about saying sorry. I'll see you at practice." My tone had more venom in it then I was expecting but part of me didn't regret it, even as I walked away.
I walked into math class and my eyes caught Megan's. She still had bruises on her face but her expression really made guilt travel through my body. I lowered my head and walked to my desk. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Quinn sit down in his desk. He looked at me worriedly before there was a knock on the door.
"I'd like to steal Sebastian from you." I looked towards the door and my stomach dropped. Steven, Amelia's father, was standing in the doorway with my parents. I looked at the teacher and he nodded before I followed them into the hallway. "Dad? What's going on?" I asked when we were far enough away from human ears.
"We know what you are." I swallowed at my father's words. "Your werewolf genes were dormant but I noticed that your scent had changed that night after the party. I was hopeful that you had changed on your own and that you would come forward about what you were. I'm disappointed that I had to find out from Steven, that you... that you were bitten by that no good son of a b-" my mother put a hand on his arm calming him down a bit, "Son, you don't have to be a part of this. You can leave his pack and join Steven's. He has accepted to have you." Steven cleared his throat silencing them.
"But there is a condition, you will leave his pack yes and follow Caine's orders but you will get us information about the pack." I ran a hand through my hair.
"But if I leave the pack I'll lose the connection between the alpha and I. I won't be able to hear him through the mind-link." Steven shook his head.
"You will be able to hear them through the link because their wolves trust you to still share the bond."
"Okay, but that still doesn't help me from the whole 'he's an alpha I must follow his orders' thing." My father placed his firm hand on my shoulder and gave it a shake.
"You can leave his pack and join the one you are supposed to be in. You'll be able to resist his commands." I swallowed at the thought, I couldn't betray him. My wolf instincts told me that this was wrong. I didn't want to betray my friends, they were more like family. But maybe after this is all over they can join Steven's pack too.
"So Caine is the one that will be giving me orders? I thought you were the alpha." He chuckled.
"I was but your alpha took my powers to become an alpha of his own."
I ran a hand through my hair before I turned away from them. "Son-" I held my hand up.
"I'll do it, on one condition." I turned back to face them and looked Steven right in the eye. "I want to be responsible for Amelia's protection, meaning that I'll be at her side at all times or at least really close." Steven's eyes darkened.
"If you even think about touching my daughter I'll kill you." I smirked before he nodded once, "Deal, she is going to need protection when she returns. She knows about what we are. I'm not sure if she knows about you. You have to promise that nothing will happen to her in your care, understand me?" I held out my hand and he took it.
"I promise nothing will happen to your daughter."
"Okay, there's a few things that we have to do before you can separate from the pack. Be at our house tonight, when the moon is at its highest." And just like that, they left. There was no way that this was going to work. My parents had lied to me the same way Amelia's had lied to her. The alpha would find out about me betraying him, and I could imagine that I would be dead this time. Probably be turned into that rug the others joked I would become. I'm going to have to avoid everyone all day today...
Great.... just great.
~
Rain started to lightly pour overhead and since there was no lightening coach insisted we went on with practice. I shivered from the rain dripping down my back. "AGAIN!" I internally groaned as I ran another suicide run. Coach was right, this one might end in suicide. The humiliating part was that coach made the whole team watch me. Their chuckles were not unheard.
"I think that Peters is thankful he got the extra rest." Sam laughed.
I rolled my eyes and continued to run. I was already physically exhausted from last night. "AGAIN!"
"Couch please, I can't do it anymore." Coach laughed.
"AGAIN!" I pounded my feet against the grass touching the line before running back. My lungs burned and my vision was blurry from the rain constantly hitting my face. The ground started to become more muddy and my shoes fought to grab at the ground. But it didn't grab enough.
I pushed myself up feeling all my muscles protest. I spit the mud and grass out of my mouth before I looked at the coach. "ON THE LINE PETERS!!" I pushed myself up and growled deeply. Quinn and Tyler's heads snapped up.
"Coach, I think he gets the idea." Tyler argued.
"AGAIN! EVERYONE, ASSES ON THE FIELD!"
He blew his whistle and the other players began to run suicides. "I DON'T SEE YOU RUNNING PETERS." Quinn patted my back encouraging me to continue running. I wanted to rip his throat out and eat it for breakfast. I breathed heavily out of my nostrils. My heart rate was skyrocketed and I could feel my shift coming.
"Quinn." I growled.
He turned and faced me. "Dude your eyes."
"Get me out of here." Quinn placed his arm around me and began to lead me off the field.
"Where do you think you are going?!" Coach yelled.
"Coach, you worked him too hard." Quinn said making coach laugh.
"If you want to keep your position on the team Peters, I suggest you keep running." I felt my claws extent and my fangs sharpen before the world began to tilt.
I fell out of Quinn's grip landing on my hands and knees deep into the muddy ground. Coach has never been this hard on me before. The world began to tilt before I threw up. My helmet cage was covered in my lunch and the smell was revolting. I stood up ripping my helmet off. I threw it to the ground and coach took a step back.
I turned and walked onto the field. Being the captain of this team requires sacrifice. I was on the line again before I started running, this one might end in someone else's suicide.
The rest of the practice continued while I ran suicides. The rain was the only thing keeping me from shifting. "Aright that's enough hit the showers, you too Peters!" Coach yelled after he blew his whistle. While everyone was walking to the showers I just stopped, collapsing to the ground.
"PETERS! Oh my God." The voice that called that seemed so far away. The hands turning me over were barely there. Coach's face was blurry before Quinn's face appeared above mine.
"Bash? Someone help me!"
I was lifted off the ground by firm hands. They placed me under the showers making the hot water burn my cold skin. My gear was being pulled off forcefully. "Bash?" I was too tired to speak let alone stand. My body has never gotten this tired before. My breathing was choppy and uneven as people were asking me to respond. I wanted to shift, I would feel better if I shifted. I growled deeply feeling my bones crack and shift.
"Sebastian! No!" The next thing I knew I was laying on the ground with the shower water beating on my skin. I closed my eyes and breathed in. I could literally smell every single thing in the room as my heart beat wildly inside my chest. I groaned loudly before my body began to power down.
I pushed myself slowly off the ground and held a hand to my head. Quinn and Tyler looked pale as they stared at me. "What?" I asked but before they could answer coach was all up in my face.
"My office now." I walked slowly behind him keeping my hand on the lockers so I wouldn't lose my balance. Coach held the door for me before he came in a shut the blinds.
"Sebastian I know I shouldn't have worked you that hard, especially with your history of asthma. But You are the captain of this team. You are supposed to be the responsible one, the one the rest of the team looks up to. I can't have a captain missing practices and only showing up to the games. If you're going to be a leader, then lead, accept the responsibility. If not, then get off my team." He paused for a moment pinching his nose between his fingers, "If you miss the next practice... I'm going to bench you for a few games, that's my final warning. But if this continues, you will no longer be captain and you'll be benched for the rest of this season, you hear me?" I nodded once before he placed a touch hand on my shoulder.
"Get your shit together Peters. Now get showered and go home." I nodded exiting out of the coaches office. Tyler and Quinn approached me.
"Why were you guys staring at me like that?" They glanced at each other before Quinn yapped on with the usual amount of sarcasm.
"Well other then the fact you almost shifted in front of everyone-"
"It's your eyes... they're bright green." Tyler added. I rushed over to the closest mirror and sucked in a breath. He was right, my eyes were not their usual dark forest green but a bright almost neon green. "What do you think it means?" I asked swallowing.
"I don't know, but we better find out." Ty pitched in.
Amelia's POV
When Kaden returned from school he gave me a continued tour before dinner. I couldn't believe how much food everyone ate. According to the alpha, it was a tradition to have a bonfire gathering when they had guests. Therefore, I was having a bonfire thrown in my honour. Kaden told me about how wild it usually gets, until it's time for Derek to tell his famous story.
I borrowed one of Kaden's sweaters before we walked down to the fire pit. I could see the fire in the distance as we walked across the dewy ground. I sighed and pushed my bangs out of my face. "Don't worry, you'll have fun." I got a glance at his beautiful smile before I was bombarded by Vanessa.
"Hey girly! You excited for this?!" I nodded giving her a smile, "You are going to love it." She clapped her hands together before skipping towards the fire. The flames of the giant fire licked towards the darkening sky.
Vanessa waved us over and I sat next to her on the log. We were close to the fire so I wasn't as cold as I was before. Kaden slapped his arm and flicked off a mosquito. "I don't know what it is about werewolf blood, but bugs love it." I chuckled.
"Therefore they'll eat you first." Kaden smiled making the fire light shine against his teeth. The fact that they turned into fangs bothered me. I shifted uncomfortably and stared at the fire.
After the group of wolves had left for school I had a lot of time to think to myself. I had come to the conclusion that I was terrified from what I was going to become. Not to mention the fact that my entire family was a huge pack of wolves and there was an alpha that wanted my head to get revenge on my family. According to Kaden the first shift is the worst. He said that your bones go through a process that they aren't used to, causing lots of discomfort.
I bit my thumbnail and let my thoughts wander aimlessly until Derek's booming voice sounded across the field, hushing the chatter that was going on before. "As you all know it's a tradition to have a bonfire gathering in the honour of our guests. Tonight! We honour the daughter of Steven Winters, Amelia." Cheers and hollers sounded from the wolves before he held his hand up quieting the crowd again.
"Amelia gets the honour of setting the torch." Kaden motioned his head telling me to stand up. I did and walked towards Derek where he handed me a giant stick. "Put it into the fire and light the pits by my chair." he whispered to me. I held the stick in the fire for a few moments before pulling it out. I walked carefully to Derek's seat and lit the charcoal put on the right side. It immediately ignited making me step back quickly. A few chuckles sounded through the crowd making my cheeks heat up. I stayed at a good distance as I lit the second one before I threw the stick into the bonfire. I basically ran back to my seat before Derek continued.
"Now I know most of you have heard the story of our ancestors, but Amelia has not." I seriously did not like being the centre of attention, "At the beginning of time, God created the earth, in seven days like it says in the bible. On the seventh day when He was resting, He realized it was quite a hassle to do everything on his own, therefore He created gods and goddesses that were not as powerful as Him but each of them had their own job." The fire cackled in the silence of his pause before his booming voice continued.
"However the gods and goddesses grew jealous of God's power and decided they wanted to rule over man on earth. Three gods and three goddesses joined forces to overthrow God." This was definitely more interesting then the story in the bible. I leaned forward and placed my elbows on my knees getting more into the story. "But their power was no match for God. They were defeated, God knew he had to punish them but He could not bring Himself to kill them. So instead He banished them to earth." He paused looking towards the sky.
"As time went on each god created a creature, a supernatural creature. One created vampire, one created demon and the other created warlocks and witches. Out of the goddesses one created mermaids, the other created unicorns and centaurs and the final one, our Mother, our Luna, created lycanthrope."
So these gods and goddesses are real?
"As time went on more gods came to earth, creating more mythical creatures. Believe me, most of them are dicks." The crowd laughed before Derek clapped his hands. "Alright, who's in charge of telling the story of the Great War?" Kaden stood up and everyone cheered.
"Long ago," he said in a deep voice making the kids giggle. He was quite the story teller in their eyes. We made eye contact and I sent him a smile. "After each of the gods and goddesses created their creatures they began to envy other creatures abilities. Some were faster, stronger than others, making them jealous. The creatures began to hate the other just like the ones who created them. Armies were built, more creatures were being created. They began to make alliances before the war hit. Death was on both sides, blood spilled upon the battle field." Some of the kids gasped making me smile from their cuteness.
"The gods and goddesses realized the destruction they were causing, but it was too late. Their creations continued to fight against each other. The creators turned their backs on their creations hoping they would die off. But no matter what they did we continued to roam the earth. Each of us created a council, established rules and eventually hid our existence from humans." Kaden sat down when he finished.
Derek clapped his hands and rose from his chair. "I believe it is time for the games!" The male population in the group stood up and ripped off their shirts, literally.
"Games?" I asked Vanessa.
"Yes games, don't worry just listen." Derek turned and look directly at me.
"Our guest gets the honour of being our first victim." What? My heart began to pound heavily as the wolves began to shift.
"Amelia, you better get running." Vanessa commented.
"There's no way I'm doing this." I whispered to her, clearly panicked.
"You don't have to, but it's recommended that you play."
"What happens if I don't?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest. A bunch of growls sounded from the wolves making me swallow. Okay then. I ran.
I reached the tree line and sprinted as fast as I could. I didn't even know the rules of the game. Next thing I knew Vanessa pulled up beside me. "Rules are simple." she said between breathes. "You are worth the most points, mates get points if they capture their mates. The person with the most points wins. Once you are tagged you have to stay with that person, but you can get stolen away unless they take you back to the base, which is the fire." A huge whistle sounded and howls erupted into the night.
"The game has started. We should split up, cover yourself in mud to mask your smell." I nodded following her instructions. We both covered ourselves in mud before we split off. My heart was beating a mile a minute. Growls appeared from behind me making me pump my legs faster. I knew now none of them would hurt me but then again, this was my first experience with werewolves. I heard a scream to my left making me whip my head around. I lost my footing and slammed on the ground. My side screamed as I tried to push myself up, that was going to leave a bruise. I froze after hearing panting. Its glowing eyes pierced through me. I didn't know if wolves could smirk, but this one did. Its eyes were a memorizing yellow colour. It growled deeply snapping me from my thoughts. I shuffled back as he took a step forward. The cracking of bones sounded through the silence. Jordan's naked body appeared before me. He tapped my ankle.
"Tagged you. I need to get you back to the base. Let's go." He stood up. Don't look at it. Don't look at it. Gosh this is awkward. He chuckled, "Not used to seeing naked guys are you?" He held out his hand and I took it, looking only at his face. I was sure I was red as a tomato. He shifted back into his wolf and pointed his head towards the camp. I nodded and he jogged at my pace. I felt a little more relaxed knowing that this wolf was actually a human being who had no intentions of hurting me. Jordan seemed nice enough, if I didn't know what he was I would've thought he was human. I wonder how many other people I know are actually werewolves.
"You're not gonna get too far." Both Jordan and I turned around to see a boy I saw at the dinner table. He was also butt naked. Oh My Gosh. He shifted into his wolf and charged at Jordan, a scream sounded from my throat as I jumped out of the way. I bit back tears as I held my elbow. My outfit was ruined. I hate this game, werewolves are stupid. My eyes were glued to the scene in front of me. Jordan was pinned underneath the other wolf who was a lot bigger than him. His eyes were not the usual yellow I had seen from other wolves, they were a bright brown colour. I jumped as a hand covered my mouth. "It's okay, it's just me." Kaden removed his hand and pulled me to my feet. When I looked up it was too late. I took my eyes away from his junk and blushed. "I tagged you, let's go." He whispered.
Before I could protest he lifted me up and placed me on his very naked back before he shifted. I gasped as my hands were now touching fur, fur that was surprisingly soft. Kaden glanced back with his blue eyes and I nodded once grabbing a handful of his sandy coloured fur. He took off running catching the attention of Jordan and the other kid. They growled and I looked back to see that they were chasing us. I buried my face into his coat and held on tighter. Wind whipped past me making my hair go crazy.
"SHIT SHIT SHIT!!" I pulled my head up at the sound of Kaden's voice. But he was still in his wolf form. My brows knitted together, okay I'm going crazy. "BACK OFF, SHE'S STILL HUMAN!" Okay I did not imagine that. We broke through the tree line to hear cheers. Kaden dropped me off by the fire pit before he shifted into his human form. Again he was another naked male in front of me. He went to grab my arm but I stepped back. "Amelia? Are you okay?" I was far from okay. I can't believe I was thrown into the middle of all this. I want to go home.
I turned around and began making my way towards the house. I was going to lock myself in that room and never come out again. "Amelia wait!" I broke into a run holding my injured elbow. But I was no match for his super human speed. He stood in front of me and grabbed both of my biceps. "Amelia?" Concern was written all over his face. At least he was wearing shorts now.
"Let me go." Gosh I sound like a wimp. He let go and I moved around him.
When I was in my room I pulled out my mom's cell phone and dialled my dads number. After no one picked up I began to cry. Why did they leave me here?
