Guilt and Redemption: Chap 16
Amelia's POV
I don't know how long I stayed in his arms before he was ripped away from me. "Lock him up!" My father screamed.
"No! Bash!" Derek held me back as Sebastian let himself be dragged, completely naked by four werewolves, "No he-he can't do that. I-I can't lose him again." I whispered. Derek was silent loosening a bit after I stopped struggling. Reality came smacking back creating a pounding in my head and ringing in my ears.
I pushed Derek away and ran to Kaden's limp body. The pack Doctor was hovering over him, checking for any signs of life. "He's alive. Barely." She called a few people over who lifted him up. Panic had settled into my stomach as I was walked back into the house, with Derek's hands pressed into my back.
Megan looked worried. Really worried. "Amelia?" She touched my arm making me flinch.
"They took him." My voice was shaky as my entire body trembled.
"Megan I think it's best if we get you home." Said Greg eyeing me carefully. She nodded once going up the stairs to get her things. My mother then took place of Derek and sat me on the couch giving me a cup of warm water.
"Amelia?" She asked, but I didn't answer, "Sweetheart, talk to me. You're scaring me."
"Where are they taking him?" I asked.
"Sebastian?" She questioned.
I shook my head, "Kaden. Where are they taking Kaden?" My voice was alien to my ears.
"To the pack hospital." she said as I stared into the bottom of the glass. It shook slightly with my hands making the water move slightly.
"Take me to him."
~
I clutched Kaden's limp hand in our pack hospital. I hadn't slept all night, not that I minded. But Kaden wasn't healing as he should and that terrified me.
"Amelia you should go get some sleep." A nurse, who's name I had learned as Emily, told me. She was kind checking in on him every so often, "Don't you have school?"
I shook my head, "I don't want to leave his side until he wakes up." She gave me a sad look before she nodded and left the room again. This was my fault. If he hadn't been trying to protect me he wouldn't of gotten hurt. I reached over running my hands through his sandy coloured hair and down across his cheek. He was running a ridiculously high fever. I knew that I should of gone to school today... But it just didn't seem right.
"It's tragic isn't it." I jumped pushing my chair away. The Mood Goddess chuckled softly sitting on the hospital bed next to Kaden.
"Is this supposed to be the person I lose?" I questioned panicking. She shook her head.
"Kaden will survive. He has a major role to play in this story."
I sighed in relief, "So he's going to be okay?" I asked watching her move a piece of hair from his face.
"Yes, he will heal." The Moon Goddess was of course, gorgeous as ever with her long shiny raven hair. "How have you been? Nightmares?"
I nodded, "They never seem to go away." I told her.
"What about the pendant?" She asked making me stop.
"How did you know about that?"
She smiled, "I know everything that happens within the werewolf world. A mother must look after her children."
"The pendant, I saw Bash wearing it, when I was mediating." She nodded contemplating my words.
"Does your father know of the importance of that necklace?"
I shook my head, "I tried to reason with him but he's frightened of my gifts. He didn't believe me." I watched as she held her hand against Kaden's forehead. A glowing yellow light produced from her hand making Kaden gasp, "What are you doing?!" I screamed ready to launch myself between them.
"Healing him." I paused trying to control my protective nerves, sitting back down into my chair. She pulled her hand away and Kaden's whole body relaxed, as if all of his pain had been taken away. The cuts and bite marks on his arms and torso began to close slowly. His heart beating strongly once again, as the monitor levelled out.
"Why wasn't he healing?" I asked after a moment of listening the the beeping monitor.
"Kaden and Sebastian both have strong beta blood within their DNA, however, the one mated to you will be ranked higher. According to the fact that you have alpha blood."
"So Bash is mated to me?" She nodded.
"But he isn't the only one." My eyebrows shot up.
"You mean that I have more than one?! I thought that was against the rules or something!"
She shook her head, "You have lots of wonderful gifts Amelia, one of them being able to chose who you want to be with. Your strong affection towards Sebastian made him stronger than Kaden."
"Who are my choices?" I questioned.
"That is for you to discover, but you and Sebastian have been fated since you were children. The future is never solid, however. The war is coming, it is not clear which one will leave you."
I sighed picking up Kaden's hand once again, "Is there a lot of werewolves who get to choose?" I asked.
She shook her head. "Only a couple of gifted ones get to choose. Wolves mate for life but sometimes, people who are fated to meet never get the chance to truly be together. It is sad to watch the sorrow of one who loses their mate, just like Quinn. I may have created all of you, but I do not have control over your destinies. Things do happen that are not truly expected, even I cannot see all."
"What do you mean by gifted? Are there a lot of people who have gifts like mine?" She chuckled.
"So many questions. Patience child. You have your whole life to discover these things!" I frowned. There was so much I didn't know. So much that I needed to know. If Sebastian and I were meant to be together, then why did I have more than one mate? Was Sebastian the one I was going to lose? My heart ached at the thought. I couldn't lose him...
"I must go. Be safe my child." And like that she was gone.
There was a knock at the door making me look over my shoulder. Greg opened the door looking as tired as ever. "You should go get some sleep Greg." I said quietly. He gave me a small smile.
"Maybe sometime this week. Your father would like to see you." I nodded but I made no effort to move.
"It is regarding the prisoner, Sebastian Peters." I stood to my feet my chair scrapping across the floor.
"Lead the way." I said, squeezing Kaden's hand once more.
Sebastian's POV
My bare back was pressed against the cold stone floor. Silver bars surround me keeping me from her. I sighed keeping my anxiety in check. "I am very impressed." I turned my head to see a woman with long dark hair sitting on the other side of the bars, cross legged watching me.
"Moon Goddess." I said quietly turning my head back to stare at the ceiling.
"You preformed well keeping your wolf in control." I could hear the sarcasm in her voice.
"How is she?" I asked knowing she probably had intel.
"She is stressed. She cares very much for the Kaden boy." I growled making her raise a perfect dark eyebrow, "You hurt him, in turn hurting her."
"I was protecting her!" I scoffed.
"He was also protecting her." She said softly, "You are going to have many challenges to over come. Be strong young warrior." And like that she was gone.
The sound of metal filled the room as alpha Derek and Amelia's father came through, followed by a few others. "Take him up stairs. It's time for the questioning."
The door to my cell was opened by a wolf wearing gloves, before two bulky wolves grabbed me. I tensed up ready to fight. "I wouldn't do that son." I stopped looking at my father. His eyes full of sadness, but he stood firm as a respectable Beta should. I relaxed and let them carry me out of the cold room.
I was sat into a chair, my hands and feet attached by silver cuffs. Caine and Steven, along with some others who I had never seen before faced me. There were many people within the tiny room. Her scent hit me first when I heard the door open. I fought the urge to turn around and watch her approach knowing I would burn myself more against the silver. I needed to be close to her. I practically whined towards her as she walked past me. My heart raced inside of my chest as I watched as she sat down next to her mother. A guard by the name of Greg standing behind her.
Mate. I whined in my mind.
"Sebastian Peters. Son of Brian Peters, Beta of the Winter Mountain." I tore my eyes away from her to look at Steven, "You've done a great deal of damage to this pack in the lsat little while." My brows furrowed.
"Exactly how did I do that?" I asked boldly.
"Joined a rival pack to ours-"
I cut him off, "Sorry to intervene with your speech, but last time I checked I had no choice in the matter. I had no knowledge of the supernatural, therefore I wasn't aware of what I was. How was I to know about the bitten alpha? How was I supposed to stop him from attacking myself and my friends that night at Cover Creek?"
"That's is true, Alpha." Someone who sounded like my mother spoke.
"I agree." My father said getting a nod from Caine.
"I had no choice, I was sired to him." I added.
"Are you still sired to him?" I shook my head eyes shifting to Amelia. She was on the edge of her seat chewing on her nails.
"No. He's dead." I heard a few gasps.
"Since when has he been dead?" Someone asked.
"I'm the son of a Beta. I was supposed to change, my genes were not dormant."
Steven scoffed, "You did not change when you were sixteen! You were bitten, therefore you did not turn the way you were supposed to!"
"I was going to turn. The Moon Goddess told me so." People gasped Caine raising his hands to keep everyone quiet.
"How do we know you are not lying?" Alpha Derek asked.
I let my eyes glow. "My eyes are no longer yellow. They glow green, like my father's. They flickered like this weeks ago." Amelia was pale, I could feel her uneasiness, "I'm stronger and faster then I have ever been. I've been with Caine this whole time. He was helping me train and emerge with my wolf as one-"
"When did you re-shift?" Steven asked eying me.
"At the semi formal dance at our school. I- I saw two people together and I lost it." My eyes glanced at Amelia her eyes full of shock, "Steven you have to remember all the favours I have done for you, how many times I risked my ass to save your daughter."
"They do not play a role within this trial. I hear by pronounce you guilty. For injuring Beta Kaden." Caine stood to his feet growling furiously.
"No!" But that didn't come from Caine.
"Amelia?" Her father asked.
I watched her stand to her feet and rush over to me. "You can't! I won't let you!" The fury in his eyes was all channeled onto her. "I've already lost him once. I can't lose him again. Kaden is fine! He's healing. I've been with him all night." I was going crazy with her close proximity. But I growled knowing she was with him all night.
"He could be useful for us." I heard Caine whisper. He turned his head to Steven, "And you are no longer in power to make those decisions."
"I'm still alpha of this pack." Steven snapped back.
"Not while you are still human."
"You can't hurt him." She whispered again.
"Get her out of here." Steven ordered.
"No!" I screamed pulling against the silver cuffs.
"Those two shall not have any contact ever again!" My skin sizzled against the silver but I ignored it, continuing to pull against them. I pulled again. Creak! Snap!
I was standing on my feet. People were shocked from my strength, noted by the audible gasps. I ran to Amelia as she fought to get to me. I pushed the guards away from her and pulled her into my arms. She was crying again against my bare chest. At least I had pants on this time...
Steven looked shocked but it finally clicked in his head. He finally realized that we were mated. Was he really going to execute his daughters mate? I let Amelia go and turned to face Steven. "I'm here to serve you alpha, to be part of your pack like I was supposed to be. What can I do to prove myself?"
"I'll need time to think about it. Until then I want you two separated." I nodded giving Amelia a pleading look.
"I won't be gone long." I said cupping her cheek, "I promise." She stepped closer and nuzzled into my chest.
"Do you have any idea how much school you missed?" I chuckled.
"A lot?" She nodded, "Yeah same, I am not even sure I am going to graduate at this point."
"Amelia we must go." She stepped away from me to walk with her mother, leaving my skin cold. My heart was still pounding in my chest. A hand was slapped on my shoulder startling me out of my trance.
"Caine." I said recognizing his scent.
"Just keep your mouth shut during this and you might get off." I nodded letting him lead me back to the chair, I smirked when they didn't bother to put the cuffs back on.
Steven looked enraged, his fists curled so tightly his knuckles were white. "You stay away from my daughter." I swallowed biting my tongue.
"Alpha." My father spoke.
"Steven," I said looking him directly in the eye, "what can I do to redeem myself? You know her and I will not be able to stay away from each other."
This seemed to anger him even more. If his stare could liquefy me, well let's just say I would be dead. "I have an idea." Caine spoke catching everyone's attention, "The old pack trusts him. I say we send his ass back, he gets our intel." Disgust shook through my body making me grip the chair. My nails extended digging into the wood. They wouldn't send me back, they couldn't.
"That could work. But the pack must think you are a traitor." Steven told me. "Including Amelia." I growled making him smirk.
"You can't do this she can't- I can't let her down again. You saw what happened to her when I disappeared!" I pleaded.
"We've made a decision. This is how you redeem yourself Sebastian Peters."
My father looked distraught watching me with his green eyes. 'I'm Sorry.' He mouthed and I nodded understanding. It wasn't his fault, he was to follow orders and not ask questions. Maybe Amelia had to hate me before I could- I have to do this, for her and for the pack.
"I'll do it."
Amelia's POV
Kaden was still extremely pale, his breathing extremely shallow but, the doctors said he had improved since the Moon Goddess' visit. I'm just glad he was going to make it through this. Squeezing his hand once more I let it go. My mind was set on one thing, talking to Bash. He had a lot of explaining to do and so did my great old great granpappy. How could Caine keep this from me? He saw the condition in which I was in. But then again I did this to him.
He saw me at the dance with Quinn before he shifted and he ran away thinking he had lost me, to one of his best friends.... Shit. I can't really be mad at him can I? I bit my thumb nail deciding what I should do.
I still needed to talk to him to apologize for the way I acted. I opened the hospital door and walked across the village streets towards our trusty dungeon, which I didn't know we had until yesterday. I walked down the stone steps and was stopped by a wolf who's name I actually did know. "Matthew, I need to speak to Sebastian." I told him.
He shook his head. "I'm sorry Amelia. I'm not permitted to let anyone pass. Especially you. Orders from your father." Darn. I sighed.
"Okay." I said quietly and I backed up the steps walking around the building. Cells lined each wall of the building, meaning they all had a heavily barred window.
"Bash?" I whispered.
"Amelia?" I sped walk to the eighth window and saw him. I crouched down into the snow feeling the cold seep into my clothes.
"Bash," I said reaching through the bars. He grabbed my fingers careful not to touch the silver. "I'm so sorry. There isn't anything I can do."
"Amelia, it's okay." He told me squeezing my fingers.
"My father has forbidden me seeing you." He let go of my hand and turned his back to me.
"Your father.... After everything I have done to help you because I- and what do I get? Locked away in a cell." He growled hitting the bars with his fist. I cringed after hearing his skin sizzle.
"Why did you leave me?" I spit out. He turned back towards me, eyes full of regret and sadness.
"The night I phased... I saw you with... With Quinn. I lost it." He turned away as if ashamed. "Your great grandfather stayed with me in the mountains, helping me train. But I went insane, my wolf taking over because I was away from you so long." He began to pace holding his chin in his hand. "We finally became one after you touched me. I don't hear him anymore."
"Him?" I asked. He stopped pacing rubbing his hands over his face roughly.
"Once a born wolf changes the person and the wolf are separated, we have to learn to work together, to bond. You'll understand when it happens to you." He walked back towards the window, his green eyes sparkling ever so slightly.
"I'm glad that you are safe." He said quietly whispering to me. He reached out and I laced my fingers with his. "But I don't think that we should be together."
I tried swallowing the lump in my throat but it was stubborn. "W-what are you talking about?" I demanded my voice cracking slightly. I ripped my hand away from him causing his arm to touch the silver. He hissed pulling back.
"Amelia, please understand that I am a danger to you." I shook my head tears brimming in my eyes.
"Please don't do this to me." He reached out wiping the stray tear that was traveling down my cheek. He seemed to be ignoring the sizzling of his skin. He pulled back, eyeing me with his beautiful apple green eyes.
"There isn't a single piece of my body that wants to do this. But I must for your safety. I care about you too much and I'm about to have targets on my back that I do not want you to have-"
"What? Who?" I asked but he stayed silent. "Bash who?"
"HEY!" I jumped seeing Matthew round the corner. I stood up quickly sprinting back towards the pack house.
I didn't even get to say goodbye.
Sebastian's POV
My heart sank as she bolted away from me. I don't know if I could bring myself to hurt her like I was about to. The door to the establishment creaked open and Caine's scent blew in with the chilly wind.
"It's time." I shook my head.
"I can't do this to her." My voice cracked my eyes blaring into his. "Please don't make me do this. I belong here." He was silent opening the door to my cell, wearing gloves of course.
"You want a place in this pack you must earn it. Now cut me like you mean it and run."
I'm sorry Amelia. I extended my claws and slashed them towards his face and chest making him hiss. Blood seeped from his wounds as he fell to he knees, staining his clothes. Then I made a run for it. One foot in front of the other.
I burst through the metal door surprised when I wasn't greeted by an army of guard dogs. I ran through the snow, which slowed me down just a tad. I reached the forest trees and shifted falling onto all fours. I stopped turning back to look at the pack house. She was going to hate me for this.
The alarms finally went off tell me to get my butt moving. Howling and people shouting sounded behind me as I pounded forward. I was doing this for redemption, to be part of the pack that wanted to kill me.
~
I shifted standing in the snow completely nude. I stared at the pack house that I used to worship in disgust. The inner animal within me wanted to run from the scent of the wolves within that house. Smells of people I used to recognize, or the new ones that wafted in the air.
They were still recruiting.
I took a step forward, my bare foot sinking softly into the white blanket that was laid across the ground. It wasn't long until they caught onto my scent, the door flew open and wolves piled out.
Tyler looked at me in shock. He could tell my scent was different from what it was before. "Sebastian." Mia called rushing through the group to wrap her arms tightly around me. Her boots lifted off the ground as I pretended to be happy to see her. A tiny piece within me was, I mean we had been friends since we were little kids.
Her boots fell into the snow and her hands slid down my naked chest making a bright red blush spread across her cheeks. She took a step back and composed herself. Quinn was next but he cautiously came forward. He was the only one who actually knew why I was away, and ripping his head off sound like a good idea.
I couldn't look at him without thinking of his lips being on hers. But I smiled and pretended nothing was wrong as I pulled him into a bro hug. I slapped his back a couple times and pulled away.
I looked back to the crowd to see Tyler hadn't moved an inch. I was confused by this. He was my-is my best friend! All the eyes just watched me making me a little uncomfortable. "Miss me?" I asked getting a couple giggles.
Ally was looking at me with a hunger that sent shivers of complete utter disgust down my spine. I was thrown a pair of shorts and I slipped them on quickly wanted to not be so exposed.
"Sebastian." I looked up and my heart stopped within my chest.
"Ace." I said covering up my discomfort. How was he alive? I buried him myself... I watched him as he sauntered out of the door, the wolves stepping out of the way, bowing their heads.
"It's been a while." He said with a smile.
"You look good Ace for someone that crawled out of the grave." The smirk that lifted on his face was not an amused one.
"Your scent is different than I remember." I nodded.
"I would be." I said as he circled around me with his hands placed behind his back.
"And why would that be?" He asked his voice loud and clear as it echoed through the forest.
"I phased a second time."
He laughed, the cackling seemed out of place in the awkward silence that fell upon our exchange. "How is it possible to phased the second time?"
"The Moon Goddess told me-" people gasped cutting me off.
Ace laughed again, "The Moon Goddess? That stupid Bitch that doesn't give a damn about us? Us who are bitten?"
I didn't bother answering his questions. "My genes were not dormant when you bit me. I was supposed to change. Therefore I did. I've been in the mountains learning to control my impulses. My instincts."
"Fascinating. But then what are you doing here? I mean, since you are no longer a bitten wolf shouldn't you join your father's packs and be with the lovely Amelia?" I shook my head.
"Steven Winters was going to have me executed for treason. He believe that it would solve a problem with me dead. He knew somehow that my allegiance was still to you." I paused watching him continue to walk circles around me. "I escaped before it could happen."
"You escaped?" He asked. "How is that possible?" I looked him right in the eye.
"I took down Alpha Caine as he was coming to collect me and I made a run for it."
"I can feel the power radiating from you. I know that your Beta blood has been activated, but that shouldn't stop you from joining the pack you really belong in should it?" Of course it would I thought to myself. This is going against everything we wolves believe in. Betraying your pack, even if it isn't your real pack.
"No, I want Steven to pay." Ace stopped walked and smirked towards me.
"But we need to see how strong you are. There are people here that gained status while you were away, meaning you need to prove to me you deserve your original position."
"Tyler?" My head snapped in his direction. That's why he wasn't happy I was back. He knew that he didn't want to fight me. If he won I wouldn't win the alphas trust. But if I won Tyler would hate me. He walked down the steps walking with a new confidence, a smirk pasted on his face like he was cocky enough to think he'd beat me.
"Well, I must say I wasn't expecting you to take my place. But I'm also not surprised, you are loyal and strong." I told him.
"Well you never understood loyalty did you? Always running to Amelia! Like she's going to protect you! She's our enemy and you still don't understand that!" He shouted.
"The one thing about you Tyler is that you were always a follower. Even when we were human you followed me around because you were in love with me or something!" That set him off. He growled heavily falling onto all fours. I had to admit he was getting larger for a bitten wolf. He yellow eyes were full of anger and betrayal.
"I must say I'm impressed. You are quite large now. But the thing is.... I'm bigger." I shifted in my wolf slowly to make it more dramatic. People gasped as I fell onto all fours. My bright green eyes were ready for a challenge. Tyler was definitely intimidated by my size. I was twice the size of him, thank you Beta blood.
Tyler quickly composed himself standing steady while growling. "Hurry up and fight the bastard!" Someone from the crowd shouted. I could see that deep down Tyler was conflicted about fighting me. He is... or rather was my best friend. This was going to end our friendship.
But he had made up his mind launching towards me using his powerful hind legs. His teeth exposed as he came closer and closer to me.
~
I shifted back into my human form running towards Tyler's now limp body. The snow around us turned up, tinted pink from our blood. The crowd was silent as I fell to my knees in the snow. "Tyler?" I whispered pulling his limp head into my lap.
He breathing was rough, blood seeping from the claw marks that tore up the flesh on his chest. "SOMEBODY HELP HIM!" I shouted hearing my voice echo into the trees. In my peripheral vision I saw Ace nod his head towards a few wolves who were now coming towards me. They took his body from me and carried him off inside.
A hand slapped into my shoulder startling me. "Well done my son." Ace told me making my stomach twist with disgust. "Well done."
I just sat there, the cold snow stinging my skin. "Sebastian? Why don't you come inside." Mia asked from behind me.
"I can't believe I just... Nearly killed my best friend... Or nearly killed my ex best friend... I mean he will hate me forever... Just for a position in a pack." She stayed quiet as I heard her foot steps come closer.
"He will forgive you." She said quietly crouching down in front of me, "You know he loves you." Her brown eyes were concerned watching me, searching for answers in my silence.
"How do you know?" I whispered my jaw chattering slightly.
"You guys have been friends since you were kids. You both dealt with full moons, fought as a football team, together. You can get through this together, like you always have." She raised her hand pressing it to my cheek. "Come inside, put some clothes on and eat something. You missed a lot while you were gone. I guess it's up to me to fill you in."
