Cracking Bones and Breaking Hearts: Chap 18

Sebastian's POV

Quinn was racing me once again with the hunters close on our tails. We knew exactly where we were going, over the cliffs like we always did. It was really late in the evening, Violette's mother and her gang were still trying to hunt us down or more specifically Andrew, you know the one that slashed open the chest of Violette's father.

"Oh my gosh Quinn, when did you get so slow?" I asked chuckling hearing the shouting of people behind us, they were smart enough to ride four wheelers this time. Even then they still couldn't keep up with our speed.

"When did you get so cocky? Oh wait you've always been delusional."

"Ha ha." I said sarcastically picking up my speed again making him fall behind even more, "Come on short legs." I pushed my hind legs harder and launched myself over the cliff shifting midair to preform a perfect swan dive into the ice cold water, breaking the thin covering of ice. The cold waves molded itself around my body as I exhaled. The bubbles from my lungs rising to the surface as I continued to descend.

"Show off." Quinn said jumping off slashing into the water next to me as I broke the surface. We both inhaled deeply, plunging back into the dark depths. Holding our breath we swam under the cliff rocks as the hunters above shot silver bullets into the cloudy water.

"They really don't learn." Quinn commented when we resurfaced inside the cave. He tossed me a pair of shorts to cover my exposed junk, "How many times have we lead them here and they still don't think about checking why we seem to get away every time?" He chuckled running a hand through his dark wet hair.

"Shh, they might hear you and start blowing up the entire cave." He rolled his eyes at me. I watching him settle himself on one of the rocks before he shook his hair of excess water.

"How are you feeling?" He asked eyeing me carefully.

"Ace told me about the war plans. They've been moved up. He was going to talk to us later tonight... But I actually don't feel anything, I don't care about anything at all." He raised an eyebrow, "I mean I was obsessed with Amelia and now I don't care if she lives or dies." Quinn swallowed avoiding eye contact with me.

"You still care about her, don't you?" I asked smirking slightly.

He nodded. "I want to see our pack rise... but I don't want her to have to die for it, even if she isn't my mate." Mate. I hated that word, the way I used to feel about that word. Like it was everything to me.

I grimaced, "Life would've been perfectly fine if she hadn't come to this god forsaken town." Quinn nodded chuckling in agreement.

"I wish I wasn't part of this pack, that I could defy Ace's orders... that way I could keep the promise that I made to you. I am being torn apart thinking about how my father is going to be on that battle field..." I raised an eyebrow sitting down on a nearby rock, the pendant bouncing off my chest.

"And what promise would that be?" I asked curiously.

"The promise to keep Amelia safe? Since the Alpha bit me I can't ignore his commands. I'm the reason he put that pendant on you in the first place and now you've lost feeling for everything. I know it was you who killed that janitor at the school. Ace was pissed that he had to clean up your mess. You just don't give a shit about anything." He kept his eyes on the pendant he whole time he was talking to me.

"That janitor was being a prick. He was going to rat me out for making out in the boys locker room after hours."

Quinn shook his head, "That doesn't give you a right to kill him." I rolled my eyes, since when did he care, "Ace has turned you into the perfect weapon because you no longer have a conscience-"

"What are you losers talking about?" Quinn and my head whipped towards the water where Mia's head was poking out.

"Mia." Said Quinn swallowing when she stood out of the water completely naked, droplets of water trailing down her skin. My eyes trailed down her body approving of her curves.

"See something you like Bash?" She looked at me intensely. Watching me as my eyes trailed over her body.

I licked my lips, "Where did this confidence come from?" I asked cockily.

She gave Quinn a look and he held up his hands standing up to leave. "You guys are gross. See you back at the pack house. What should I tell him if you're late-"

"Leave." Mia said sternly making Quinn roll his eyes. He bounced up the trail that led outside and it left the two of us completely alone.

"Truth it is," I spoke as Mia walked over swaying her hips from left to right.

"Bash." she purred crawling onto my lap. I placed my hands on her hips growling as I moved her closer.

"I want you." I whispered into her ear.

"Good." she whispered back and with that she pressed her lips roughly to mine.

~

Mia and I laid on the cold stone ground staring at the crystals that hung from above. "I remember the first time you guys showed me this cave." She said curling up closer to me, "I was too scared to jump so you and Tyler threw me over the edge." She was probably replaying that moment in her head pulling up feelings of warmth and friendship but I felt nothing stir inside of me as I recalled the memory.

"We should probably go back to the pack house. You know before Quinn starts telling everyone we are getting it on inside a dark cave." She chuckled grabbing a pair of shorts for herself. Her long chestnut hair was long enough to cover her small A cup breasts.

"What's wrong with people knowing?" I asked pretending like I cared.

"I think Ally would kill me." She chuckled to herself again, watching me stand to my feet.

I noticed the way her eyes traveled over my chest and abs. Being a werewolf had its perks. "Let's go you dork. We don't want Ace to be kept waiting." She jumped over a few rocks making her way to one of the cave exits. I waited a few minutes listening to her footsteps echo against the walls. I looked back up to the roof where the crystals sparkled against the dark rock. This would probably be the last time that I saw them. I took a few steps back before sprinting to parkour myself across the rough rock surfaces so I wouldn't have to use my hands to climb over them.

I knew exactly what Ace was planning to talk to us about. The Battle. That Ace, in his mind, was better to move up to two days from now. Apparently, the pack had been training with Andrew for a long time but I had little to no training at all since, you know, I spent that last several weeks trying to battle my inner wolf.

Only two days and our lives would be on the line.

Mia was leaning against a tree the light from the almost full moon shining on her mocha skin. "Took long enough." She said not turning around to actually look at me. I walked up behind her and pressed my warm skin against her bare back.

"That's not what you were saying an hour ago." she leaned into me as I pushed her hair away from her neck so I could press my lips against it.

She moaned making me bite her skin drawing blood. She didn't even flinch as the metallic taste filled my mouth. When I finally pulled away her eyes were hooded, glowing bright yellow. "We should go." She said quietly as the moon spread shadows across the left side of her face.

"I'll race you." She said shoving me away to get a head start. She shifted into her wolf sprinting into the trees towards the pack house. I rolled my eyes, there's no use in challenging me. I shifted, letting my bones crack and slide into place letting my body transform into the real me, into a beast. I waited a few more seconds before howling towards the moon, I had to make sure she knew I was coming.

I launched forward my long muscled legs, carrying me through the woods at high speeds. It wasn't long before I caught up to her. I picked up my speed a bit more so that I was running beside her. "How are you so fast?" She asked her yellow eyes focusing on the terrain and trying to avoid running into trees.

"Just genes I guess, or maybe you're just really slow." My legs continued moving forward seeing the pack house just ahead. I stopped in front of the door, my bones snapping back into place. Mia cleared the trees a few seconds later, panting as she shifted back into her human form, "Don't die on me now." I teased.

"How are...you not even...tired?" I didn't bothering to answer her. I just winked and opened the door to walk in. The house was completely quiet, which probably wasn't a good thing. I heard footsteps coming from my left. I turned swinging my fist forward to connect with someones face.

"What the hell man?!" Jackson asked holding his nose. His twin Jakob laughing behind him. I didn't even bother to apologize. "Alpha Ace is about to start the meeting." Said Jackson, trying to stop the blood that was gushing from his nose.

"Put some clothes on streaker." Jakob chuckled handing Jackson some ice.

"Tell Mia, that she doesn't have to." He winked at me making me roll my eyes. Quinn can't keep his freaking mouth shut.

Everyone was gathered in the main room within the house waiting for 'His Highness' to arrive. I could tell people were nervous about what Ace was going to talk to them about, but they also seemed put off by the fact that Andrew was in the room. Fear was clearly seen in many of their expressions. I wondered what kind of things Andrew had done to them for 'training' purposes.

The room went silent as Ace walked into the room. The aurora of power that generated around his alpha title, would send any one of us into silence. Everyone seemed to stand a little straighter in his presence, except me. I continued to be relaxed because he really didn't intimidate me that much.

"First of all I want to say that I'm proud of you for the work and dedication you have put into your training and into this pack." I rolled my eyes getting an elbow from Mia, "You were all chosen for something greater than what your human lives called you to be."

The room seemed to be mesmerized by the way he spoke to them. I just didn't care. "However there is a being that poses a threat to me, and to every member of this pack. She is a threat to every single one of you. She will determine whether this pack rises or falls," Andrew was now watching me closely as Ace continued his speech. "Amelia Winters, is a legendary creature described as-"

"A Winter Wolf." I cut in getting several eyes to bounce in my direction.

"Yes, Sebastian. A Winter Wolf. It's a very powerful werewolf that has many abilities that boosts its leadership qualities and its strength." He paused making eye contact with a few within the packed room, "Amelia must be terminated before she phases on her seventeenth birthday."

"How soon are we talking?" asked Jake who was eyeing me carefully as well. Why is everyone looking at me like that?

"Two days." Andrew spit out.

"Two Days?! Are You Crazy?!" someone shouted out.

"We weren't planning to attack in at least two weeks! Why the sudden change?" Ally asked.

"Because Amelia is already experiences signs of the change. We believe she will shift before her birthday." I spoke up getting Ally to shoot me a disgusted look. She was obviously not pleased with me, which confirmed that Quinn had not kept his mouth shut about Mia and I.

"What's our game plan?" Tyler asked who was now up and walking again.

Andrew pushed a table into the centre of the room and laid a map that showed the entire city of RavenHills. "This," Ace said pointing to a dark read line that practically ran completely across the town, "is the border between the territory that we claimed and Winter Mountain territory." We all watched as he trailed his finger across the page.

"Their main settlement is in the mountains on the east side of RavenHills." Next to the lake were a few blocks that I assume represented the pack houses. I recalled the village where I had last seen Amelia. His finger stopped at the biggest one, which was clearly the pack house, "The pack has settlements within the whole territory many of them lining the boundary between us and them." He pointed to the edge of the map where the lake was.

"This is where Mrs. Winters lives." Her grandmother? What doe she have anything to do with it? "Mrs. Winters is the one who created the magical barrier. She has witches that help her maintain this line. It stops vampires and other creatures from crossing. We need to remove this field in order for the fairy King and his army to come through."

"How exactly do we do that?" Jake asked, Ally snuggling up to his side. She gave me a look like she thought she was shit or something. Keep dreaming bitch.

"The barrier is created by a series of symbols that line the boundary. Whenever they have guests that aren't from the werewolf species they break one of them before they redraw them. We just have to break one that won't be noticeable." Andrew spoke, pointing out where the symbols had been located.

"Yeah, cause that seems easy." I commented under my breath getting a look from Ace.

"Bash is right, it won't be easy. The border is under constant supervision, but that's why we have Alpha Derek on our side to take watch that night." I shrugged. He really did plan for everything.

"Now there is a clearing, right, right here." Remembering the tree stump a few months back when he finally revealed himself. "We need to find a way to lure them into this clearing."

"Why don't we take a hostage?" I said still casually leaning against the wall.

"And who would you suggest?" Andrew asked, vile disgust dripping in his voice. Somebody does not like me.

"Well we need to chose someone that is important to both Steven and Amelia. They'll come after Mrs. Winters or Amelia's mom." I stated. Amelia was weak when it came to those she cared about.

Andrew was obviously not agreeing with me whatsoever but Ace nodded. "I like your thinking." He told me looking over the map in front of him.

"We have two days to prepare for this. Amelia must be killed, and everyone else that tries to get in my way." Ace looked into the crowd at all the people he had changed into his weapons. His pawns that he was now strategically placing over his map like a game of war, but this was no game. Ace was in this for the power and for control over the Winter Mountain pack. Looking back at the map Ace began to lay down the plan. It was complicated with only two days to prepare but it was a good plan. One that might actually defeat Steven and his pack.

After the wolves separated to go home for the night Ace asked me to stay back. Once we were alone he grabbed two whiskey glass putting them down on the now cleared table. I watched him as he poured an ounce of Jack Daniel's into each glass. He held one out to me and I didn't refuse to take up on his offer. I waited for him to take a sip of his own before taking a swig from mine. The liquid burned my throat but I welcomed it sighing in content.

"Sebastian, I wanted to ask your opinion on the game plan." I took another swig before answering. I placed the empty glass on the table in front of me, contemplating my response.

"It's a good plan, there aren't many ways that they can beat us, especially with Derek's pack on our side. Where do I come into this plan?" I asked.

"You are going to help me take down Steven," I smiled. I couldn't wait to slash his throat with my claws, "and Caine." Caine was going to be harder to fight. He still has his alpha powers, however he is a lot older than most werewolves within the pack. "With our combined powers I believe we can take both."

"What about Amelia?" I asked as he walked over to a window staring at the almost full moon.

"I'm hoping that she'll be dead before the battle. However, do you want the honours?" I smirked. The image of sinking my claws deep into her flesh cross my vision. I could she her begging for me to stop as blood poured out of her mouth.

"It would be my pleasure."

~

It felt weird to be laying in my bed again for the first time in months. I crawled into my bedroom through the window to not risk seeing my, oh supportive parents. Looking at the ceiling I couldn't help my mind wander to Amelia and her blood being on my hands. I smiled at the thought, I wanted to be the one to dig my claws into her flesh. To see her eyes full of pain and betrayal.

I put an arm behind my head and rested it onto the pillow. Tomorrow would be a new day, the day I kill Amelia.

No dreams again last night. I actually got up and was able to choose what I wanted to wear from my dresser. I grabbed a duffle-bag from under my bed and started stuffing in all the things I would need from now on, considering I wasn't coming home anytime soon.

"Sebastian?" I was caught off guard when I saw my mother in the doorway.

"Mother." I spit at her catching her off guard.

"I caught your scent when we came home last night." And she didn't try to kill me or kick me out? "I was wondering if you were ever going to come back home again." She stated. Her voice was barely a whisper. Her heart was pounding inside of her chest.

"Why did you never tell me what I was? You knew didn't you, even when I was bitten." She shook her head.

"Your scent doesn't change much when you are bitten. We thought you were just being a rebellious teenager... We thought you needed your space after Trina." I clenched my jaw thinking about that stupid whore.

"Do you know how she died mom?" I asked smirking. She was silent staring at me waiting for me to answer, "I slashed her throat open when I shifted on a full moon." She gasped stumbling back. "I mean I probably wouldn't have admitted it back then, but I enjoyed killing her. The way she looked at me, dying and slowing bleeding out in front of me." I could tell my mother didn't even recognize me anymore. Her eyes were wide with fear as she took a step back into the hallway.

"Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." My mother was pale staring at the coldness in my eyes, "Get ready mother, everything's going change." I shoved a couple more things in my bag and walked past her, going through the front door for the last time.

I smiled when I got to the garage to see my father had found my bike that I had left at the school the night of the dance. He had even given it a tune up while I was gone. I grabbed a helmet and swung the bag strap over my head. I started the bike loving the way it purred. It was going to be difficult to drive in the snow but I did not give a shit. Damn I missed you baby. Releasing the breaks I pulled out of the driveway and towards the school.

It didn't take long to get to the school. I got weird looks from the students as I pulled in the parking lot. Who else would be crazy enough to drive a motorcycle in the middle of December? I pulled off my helmet shaking my hair that had grown out in the last little while. "Brought the bike back out?" I rolled my eyes as Ally came up behind me.

"Yes, enjoy your time with Jake last night?" She shut her mouth after that comment.

"It's really none of your business." She said crossing her arms over her chest, trying to cover up the fact that she insecure.

I chuckled, "You don't need to hide your true nature Ally." I leaned in closer so I could whisper the next part in her ear, "Everybody already knows that you're an easy slut." I threw my leg over my bike and adjusted my bag before heading into the school.

I headed upstairs to my locker even though I thought school was a giant waste of my time. I sniffed the air using my senses to locate my target. I stopped and frowned when I came up with nothing. Did Amelia not come to school today?

Seeing Megan I stalked up towards her. She looked shocked trying to find a place to escape. She decided to turn the opposite direction and ran, making me clench my jaw. I am really not in the mood for games right now. She dropped her books as she went out the west entrance of the school. I sighed picking up her bag on my way by.

I followed her scent to behind the school dumpsters. She had her hands up ready to defend herself with magic. I held my hands up in surrender. She lowered her hands a bit but kept her defensive position. "I just want to talk." I told her tossing her bag back over to her. She caught it eyeing me carefully.

"What do you want?" She asked still suspicious.

"Where's Amelia? It's important that I warn her." I tried to make my voice as calm as possible with a hint of desperation. It was hard to pretend I still cared about her.

"Why? What's happening?" She shifted her weight from left to right as she spoke to me. I watched her eyes darting all over, looking for a way out.

I sighed in frustration, "Can you just tell me where she is?" I demanded. Her eyes narrowed at the tone of my voice. Darn, I could tell she didn't trust me and thought that I was acting suspicious for needing her location so bad.

"Not until you answer why you are looking for her." My heart rate was increasing in anger, I was trying to hold my shift back. I was getting extremely impatient.

"This is life or death Megan." I took a step forward making her raise her hands towards me again.

"Don't come any closer or I will hurt you. There is no way in hell I'm telling you where she is."

"She's at the pack house isn't she?" Megan's eyes gave away the truth, "She's Phasing! ISN'T SHE?!" I took a step forward making Megan shot an electric shock through my body. I slammed to the ground, my knees bruising from the contact. The pulse that raked through my body knocked the wind out of me. My wolf was pissed as I tried to catch my breath. I recovered pretty quickly, getting to my feet. I went to chase after her retreating figure but Quinn and Tyler both grabbed my arms shoving me against the school bricks, the force cracked them in.

I growled my teeth lengthening, my eyes glowing bright green. "Dude calm down." Quinn said shoving against me harder, "What's going on? We could sense your shift from all the way from the second floor." I growled again pushing them away from me. They both dropped into the slush that covered the parking lot.

"WE'RE TOO LATE!! SHE'S ALREADY SHIFTING!" I growled. Understanding flickered in their expressions. We were royally screwed.

Amelia's POV

I was numb. Numb with pain. I wanted the burning to stop. I wanted the burning to go away. I had never felt so much pain. Just so much pain.

"Why isn't she moving anymore?" Someone asked in concern. I knew that moving would make the pain worse, I didn't want to move.

"Do you know what's happening to her?" Kaden? What is he doing here?

"She's... she's phasing." said the pack doctor pressing a cool hand to my forehead. "She's showing all the symptoms."

"But it's not even close to her birthday yet!"

"I don't think her body cares." Phasing? Is that what they named this inner torture?

"Hang in there Amelia, it gets better I promise. I've been through it. You just can't fight it. It'll make it worse." Kaden grabbed my hand making my muscles contract.

A scream pierced through my lips and into the ears of everyone in the room. The pain was back, it felt like my skin was slowly being pulled off, layer by layer. Tears poured down my cheeks as I bit the skin of them between my teeth. I clenched my hands into fists, arching my back off the cold cement floor. "AHHHHHH!"

"Amelia! Stop fighting it!" But it hurts. It hurts so fucking bad. I whimpered as the next wave of pain shot throw my body. SNAP! CRACK! My bones made sickening noises and I could literally feel them move underneath my skin. I wanted to scratch them out. Scratch them all out, that would stop the pain. Another sickening crack echoed off the walls. My whole body trembled as if someone was breaking each one of my bones, one at a time.

My teeth started to ache the worst, as if someone was pulling them out or grinding them down without any numbing gel. "Make it stop!" I screamed out in plea. I winced as my lip was puncture by something sharp, blood filled my life making me whimper.

"She's got fangs." I recognized it as Kaden's voice. He was concerned for me.

"Kaden stay back. She might hurt you." I spread open my fingers and dug the tips of my finger nails into the hardwood floor. I scratched the floor arching my back once again. My body was on fire. I wanted the numbness to return, I wanted the world to fade away. I groaned but it erupted from my chest, sounding more like a growl.

And with one more echoing snap the pain was gone, but so was I.

"Amelia?! Amelia Stop!" But I wasn't in control.

~

I opened my eyes seeing the blanket of snow that covered the ground. I pushed myself up immediately grabbing my boobs to cover them up. Why am I naked?

"Amelia?" asked a shaky voice. I turned to see Kaden with his hands held up. Why was he so nervous to approach me?

The smell hit me first making me wrinkle my nose. Blood and death wafted in the air. I looked around the yard to see men lying on the ground, blood staining the once perfect snow. I looked down on my hands the see blood was coating them. "What-What did I do? Did I hurt all these people?"

"Amelia, it wasn't you. You didn't have control." Kaden said trying to reason with me.

"I hurt you Kaden." I said my eyes brimming with tears, "I didn't have any control! I can't be around you or anyone else!" My lip quivered as I tried to use snow to remove the blood that stained my skin. A sob escaped my lips as I rubbed my skin raw.

"Amelia don't do this. It was your first time shifting, you just need practice. It takes time." I looked back at the men who I had obviously hurt.

"I'm too strong, I-I-" I started cutting myself off.

"Amelia, Kaden is right. This was your first time, it's always rough." Said the Moon Goddess throwing a blanket over my shoulders. Kaden seemed to be in shock by the beautiful woman kneeling in front of us.

"Luna." He whispered bowing his head.

She gave him a smile, "Amelia but something is wrong, you should already be able to handle all this. It wasn't supposed to happen like this."

"Meaning what?" Kaden asked finally snapping out of his trance.

"Meaning she was poisoned." I looked up my eyebrows drawing together in confusion, "Poisoned by wolfsbane, before you shifted."

"How can you tell?" I asked.

"Your behaviour, the way you lost control," She grabbed my hand holding it up. "the black gathered around the bed of your fingernails." I tried scrubbing it off but it wasn't working. "Wolfsbane doesn't harm humans as much as it hurts werewolves. During your shift it must of reacted badly to the change in your DNA, in your bloodstream."

"But who would want to poison her?" Kaden asked not being able to draw his eyes away from the Moon Goddess.

"One of Ace's minions." she commented helping me to my feet, "There's obviously someone on the inside, someone who has managed to keep poisoning you. Whether it be from water or your food, even your lip balm. Don't eat anything that is cooked for you. The wolfsbane will mess with your abilities."

"I did this to all these people." I said turning to look out at the field again.

"You're the strongest of the strong but it's going to take practice." I nodded watching Kaden rush over to help one of the wolves to their feet. I winced seeing the purple coloured veins lining the claw marks down his arm.

"Did I kill anyone?" I asked not ready to face the truth.

"No, you just hurt a lot of people." That didn't make me feel any better.

"Amelia, Ace's pack is coming a lot sooner than planned. You've felt it haven't you?" I nodded recalling the feeling from yesterday night. "They're coming on the day of the full moon." I told her looking at the moon that was still visible in the daytime sky. I could tell another snow storm was on its way from the angry looking clouds coming from the east. Plus I kind of just had this feeling about it.

"What am I supposed to do?" I asked her looking back at the pink coloured snow. I could feel my stomach flip inside me.

"Learn, train, and warn everyone. You must be a leader for your people." she whispered. All I could do was nod. Then like that she was gone. I pulled my blanket closer to my body as Kaden helped me step into the pack house.

I turned to the right wall and stared at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was a completely tangled mess. Blood was stained around my mouth and teeth. I really did look like a crazed animal. I looked into my eyes and I stared for several moments wanting to see my real eyes.

I smirked, as I watched them change from the sea green of my fathers, to the purple eyes of a Winter Wolf. The eyes of a warrior. The eyes of a Leader.

The eyes of an Alpha.
