CHAPTER 44

I dressed with some baggy pants and an oversized shirt. As I inched closer to the box, my nerves reacted wildly.

Once the box was open, I flipped it onto its side and a object fell out. I grabbed it and stared at it.

A usb?

I examined it carefully and slipped it into my pockets. I called Tony. "Kaia?" "Hey, uh- can I use your computer?" I asked nervously. "Sure, I'm in the lab, you can come," he replied. "Ok i'll be there at 5." I left my room.

I ran down the stairs to the hidden room, the lab. I opened the door and went down the stairs of the lab, to find Tony already on his computer. "Hey Tony," I greeted, still catching my breath. "Hey kid, what's up?" "Can I use your computer?" I asked, smiling slightly.

Whatever there was in this USB, Tony was going to see it with me. "Sure," he said, moving away from the computer. I took the USB out of my pocket and plugged it in. "What is this?" I replied, "I don't know, Bucky left it for me to find."

That's when I realized it.

He wanted me to find it.

"Are you sure?" he asked, casting a nervous glance toward my direction. I took a deep breath before answering, "Yes," I said taking a deep breath. I waited a few seconds to look at Tony when a video popped up. It was Bucky. "Kaia- or whoever got this USB." Bucky looked down. "This was supposed to be a present for her, but this is hardly a present. I hope I'll get her a real one later, but I--" he paused, redirecting his eyes to the camera again, his icy blue eyes clear.

I looked at Tony while my eyes already watered. "They're coming for me again, I don't know when, but keep Kaia safe, we are going to go to Italy today actually, but I can't let her get hurt." Tears rolled down his soft cheeks.

I met his gaze through the camera as my own tears burned my cheeks. "I love you Kaia, always and forever." As he finished his sentence, he choked up. The video switched off and silence blanketed the room.

I pressed my palms to my forehead and sobbed, half-falling down to the floor. Tony could do nothing as he watched speechless. "He knew, he knew and he still didn't say anything," I gasped through my sobs, letting myself fully soak the words in.

I stayed down on the floor crying, while Tony typed into the computer. "What are you doing?" I asked. "He put pictures in this USB." "Open them," I said standing up. "It has a password, whatever is in here, must be- really important," he said looking at me.

I took a deep breath before rage took over me. "Can you crack it?" "I'll try, but no promises, I also have to go check on him," Tony said, packing some materials. "I'll go with you," I said, rubbing my eyes.

He stopped to look at me and said,"Are you out of your mind?" "You saw this video, and it destroyed you," he said, shaking his head.

"Please" I begged. "No, no you won't come," he said, starting to put more things into the bag. "You need to let me go be-[" I said before a voice cut over.

"I'll take care of her," it said. I turned around to see Strange looking at Tony, then at me. "You. Take care of me?!" I said angrily. "I can take care of myself," I said as I left the lab. "Oh for sure," Strange said laughing.

"Idiot," I said, hiding my tears while going up the stairs.

4 HOURS LATER

It was night already, no one, not a single person came to tell me anything, any updates about him. Nothing, absolutely nothing.

I layed in bed staring at the ceiling and cried myself to sleep.

2 IN THE MORNING

"Kaia," A voice said. "Kaia, wake up," It said. I opened my eyes to see Steve sitting beside me. "Steve?" I said, rubbing my eyes. "You need to come now," he said, taking my hand and dragging me out of my room.

I couldn't see where we were going, all I could see was flashing lights everywhere. A woman joined us, Nia. I looked at her confused and she just nodded.

I finally let go of Steve's grip and asked impatiently "Can you at least tell me where we are going?"

"Kaia, you wanted to see him right? Well here is the thing, you're not going to see him as what he was before, he's destroyed mentally. You won't see your Bucky you know, the father of your kids, or your boyfriend. He's a soldier now," he said, coldly.

I froze at that instant, looked him in the eye, and got into his mind. I could see darkness, and shadows everywhere, Steve screaming and punching, he had beaten himself up for what had happened.

I got out and looked at him. "Your not the only one Rogers, now leave me the fuck alone," I said going the other direction.

What was the reason for him to say that, to do that. The audacity. I knocked on someones door and I instantly regretted it. "Yes?" Strange stood in front. "What is going on?" I asked angrily. "I see someone woke up on the wrong side of bed," he laughed.

I kicked him in the stomach which made him fall back. "Tell me what is going on," I said standing in front of him.

"Well many things are going on Kaia," he said with a smirk on his face.
