What's the purpose of a werewolf with no wolf?

Bex is an outsider. She has never shifted.
However, she is a far cry from the runt of the pack. Capable of mind linking with any other wolf, emotion manipulation, and feats of incredible strength, Bex fights for her place in the world and the doubts within her own mind.

Unfortunately, looming pressures seek to control the lone wolf Bex was unwilling to become.

The Counsel, a group who regulates and polices the supernatural world, is seeking out a new Luna to rule over the werewolves. The law of the land requires Bex to take up the responsibility of Luna on the Student Counsel since she's next in-line for the position. Any objections are swiftly silenced as an ex-best friend and future Alpha materializes from the ghosts of Bex's past, one that she'd rather forget, to enforce the law. As a member of the Student Counsel, Bex is being groomed, through a trial period, for a job she doesn't want.

Bex is running out of options fast to escape the cage designed for her. In order to survive, she must do something drastic.

It's time to confront her wolf.

Definitions/ A Brief History (for those not accustomed to the ways of the genre or if you just want to know my take on things): Either taken from the internet or are my own interpretations which are then shown in book.

In Bex's World: There are many supernatural creatures as well as humans. The supernatural have their own cities, businesses, and islands for their own kind. Think about how in Harry Potter only those who knew where to look saw behind the "muggle" curtain. That's sort of how it is. Packs/Covens/Enclaves do business all the with the outside world all the time and can blend in seamlessly but some prefer to just live amongst themselves which is fine.

Werewolf: Derives from the Greek words 'lykos' for 'wolf' and 'anthrōpos' for 'human'. Today's alternatives would be lycanthrope, lycan, or simply wolf-man. The sighting of the firsts beasts was during the medieval period around the 5th-15th century in Europe.
~Now don't get me wrong, werewolves date all the way back to Ancient Egypt (Anubis or Wepawet) and the Greeks (Lycaon), but the modern sightings of a man literally shifting into a wolf weren't really believed until the middle ages.

Most wolves blame the witches for them being found out, as they should. At the time the witches were reckoning the time of their own "destruction" as the Salem Witch Trials were right around the corner. To divert attention from themselves, the witches decided it was best to out the wolves as well and that's why some histories state that the two appeared in folklore around the same time.

Now to the nitty gritty details.

THIS IS A MALE DOMINATED SOCIETY! It's a pain in the ass but that's just how it is. Females can have high positions of power but they are few and aren't exactly accepted.
Men= Strong, Leader, Protector. Female= Soft, Agreeable, Nurturing. (Bex isn't any of these btw)

I could list the different ways on how people preformed the rituals to become a werewolf but I'm sure you're already bored so I'll get to the point. In this book, you are either a bitten or born Werewolf, there is no other way.

Scratched =Safe Bitten =Screwed

There aren't a lot of humans who survive the change.
Like Darwinism, only the strong can survive it.

Weaknesses~ Silver to the heart and/or in the blood can kill any Werewolf.

Rituals~ Werewolves follow the lunar cycle. Every full moon will compel them to change into their wolf form, skin form or just skin is what they call their human side. Only the strongest wolves can change whenever they please.
The only exception is when a member of the pack first changes into their wolf, that can happen at anytime, like puberty- hits whenever it wants to.

Pack: There are many ways to describe it but in this book, it's basically a community within itself. All the members have a job to do and responsibilities in order for the pack to sustain itself. Think if it like a small town where everyone knows each other.

Alpha (Male or Female): Leader of the pack, think of them as the governor​ or mayor. They make the rules, delegate with other packs or the outside world, and make sure that the pack is safe/taken care of.

Luna (Always associated with Females): Most times they're the mate of the Alpha OR the overall "mother" of the pack. Tasks vary, think about all the shit mother figures do on the regular. It's a lot.

Beta (Male or Female): The second in command and the most trusted by the Alpha besides the Luna. Betas are basically Vice Presidents, if anything happens to the Alpha they step up and take over.

Gammas (Males and Females): This is the packs military. They vary in number, help to train all pack members to fight, and keep unwanted persons/creatures out.
Highly respected. Anyone can join as long as they are qualified in weapons, military tactics, hand to hand combat, and peace relations- you obviously have to know the Packs/Enclaves/Covens/Creatures/Humans your pack gets along with and the ones you don't.

Deltas (Males and Females): Small group but worth their weight in gold. Basically the bad asses. These are the ones who'll hack your computer, steal classified documents, change your wallpaper, and have a thorough scheduled meeting with the Alpha about how you done fucked up by lunchtime. In this group, gender doesn't matter as long as your smart enough to hang.

Shamans or Oracles: One or two people not including their apprentices. They are the wolves with witch-like abilities. They are there for births, deaths, Alpha challenges, Beta challenges, extreme healings, and the packs welcoming of new wolves or members. These are the historians that help to keep the pack knowledgeable of their ancestors ways. Sometimes they get a vision or two but it's rare. Only large packs have them because only the larger packs can get the ingredients they'll need for whatever.

Like any position of power, some higher members are crooked and full of themselves.

Regular Wolves: Biggest group in the pack. Think of them like the middle class majority. This class varies from Doctors to Teachers, Economists to Truckers. Nothing is really looked down upon because every role helps the overall pack no matter how minuscule it may seem overall. Pay varies of course but every pack member is guaranteed protection and support when necessary.

Omega: It is a strictly given title of shame. It's reserved for the rule breakers, criminals, utter cowards. A family can be an Omega family for something that one member did. They won't be treated as severely as the member, but it doesn't help their reputation. They are mostly given the dirtiest jobs and lower wages. All children/the ones not accused, can earn a better rank at any given time if they work hard enough.

Runt: Simply means the smallest and weakest members. They AREN'T automatically labeled as Omegas. Being physically weak doesn't automatically equate to being cowardly. It's a fact that some Deltas are runts but their minds are as sharp as any blade. It's rare for a runt to be a Gamma though, in order for that to happen they'd have to be an utter genius in weapon design, military tactics, and/or diplomacy.

Rogues: The ones who don't want to be in packs. In this book, they aren't diseased or crazed, they're nomads that constantly travel and they never settle down permanently. It's 100% choice based or they just haven't found a pack where they want to settle into. There are strict laws in place but most are there so that they won't expose themselves to humans.

Why does any of this matter?

Bex is an werewolf without her wolf.
She's also an Alpha female.

Even though Bex doesn't have her wolf, she's still incredibly strong, can mind link like everyone else in her pack, and has the excellent hearing/vision that are the common characteristics associating her as a werewolf.

Alpha Female: Firstborn daughter of Alpha couple.

Bex has special gifts/powers.!
Like Phoebe from Charmed on TNT (idgaf what you say, that show was amazing!) Bex, can feel the emotions of those around her and manipulate them as she sees fit.

The ONLY thing she and Phoebe (from Charmed) have in common is that they are emotion detectors. Bex can't see into the future, levitate, or cast spells. She's not a witch, and this book DOES have them.

Mind Linking: The entire pack is connected to the Alpha's mind (He's like the packs Public Broadcasting Station.) It's basically telepathy where you could read another pack members mind if they allow it and they can do the same if you allow it. Very useful when in wolf form. It is common that all wolves can mind link after the change and be able to connect once they're accepted into the pack.

BEX can mind link anyone she chooses though, whether they're in her pack or not.

Emotion Manipulation: Eh. It's been explained for the most part, and it's kind of self explanatory.

Now for.....The Counsel:

It's an exclusive 12 member executive, legislative, judicial group of supernatural beings. They basically run shit even though their name literally means "to advise." It's made just like Noah's Ark in the Bible (it's mostly well known which is why I use it), one of both genders in each species are involved at all times.

One male, one female.

2 werewolves
2 vampires
2 fairies
2 shape shifters
2 ghosts
1 witch
1 wizard

They reside and rule from the Isle of Lilith, who is said to be the mother all supernatural creatures (brought to you by Supernatural the TV show.) All species worship her differently.

The Student Counsel: Basically the minors before stepping into the big leagues. It takes a while before the final twelve are chosen. They have a short trial period for those on the list and then they take a test.

Pass= Permanent Member.
Fail= Nice try and you have no other chances.

I shouldn't be saying this BUT, there is some romance, duhh, but it ain't happening in the very beginning. I want people to understand and love my character as she is, and to not associate her by the man she's with. Also because I love back stories and thorough character development. Which should be obvious from this long Welcome chapter.
