I made a fire and cooked the vegetables.

I make sure to keep a good distance from the fire.

Heat has always made me uncomfortable and when I sit near a fire my face gets warm and if I get too warm I can hardly breathe.

I know this because once my special device which Mrs. Lair called the Shifter somehow broke down one day from my travel to Greenland.

It dropped me right in a summer woods where I found out what a 78 degree heat can do to me.

I sat down feeling the cool blanket of snow beneath my fingers.

I looked up at the sky it was only midday, I knew this because the sun was in the middle of the sky.

I finished my food and froze the fire, I always loved freezing things making them turn to ice.

The fire iced and stuck up in all directions as if it was trying to escape before I froze it.

I stared at the beautiful design in the ice and thought 'how could anyone not enjoy this?'

The cold wind blew my hair covering my face.

I climbed on the to nearest tree and up to the tallest branch.

Wind normally only blows when I make it.

I peaked over the thick branches to see two
other kids on their Shifters coming my way.

I ducked down quickly blending in with the branches.

I jumped over from one limb to another hiding in a small opening in the tree.

I squeeze myself inside and waited.

They came down wearing bright colors, it was a spring and autumn kid.

They both had on big jackets and laid their Shifters down.

I notice they had baskets in their hands, they must have come to collect snow.

Why here I made plenty of other places so they could leave me alone.

I Spring kids rubbed her arms together, "it's so cold," she said, "Gust we need to hurry."

"Yeah okay but let's have a look around first," he said, the girl gave him a looked, "Gust no we need to just get the snow and leave." He took off his jacket and shivered.

"Come on Rosie in just look around it's not like I'm hurting anybody," said Gust he was wearing brown pants and a long sleeve shirt that was covered in different color leaves.

She took off her jacket too, she was wearing a small shirt with thin straps and shorts.

They were both tanner than me and suddenly eyes.

I'v seen other kids before but not them.

I wanted a closer look and crawl out of my hiding place.

I slid down the tree and followed behind hiding behind every tree.

"Wow look at all this snow it's so white!" Gust said, Rosie looked at it she got on her knees.

I had to quickly change trees before I could see what she was doing.

Her hands were digging in the snow and once she got to the dirt underneath she presses her hands against it.

I squinted my eyes and as she lifted her hands a bright blue flower was growing from the ground.

I open my mouth in awe, she stood up and put her hand under her arms.

"Come on we need to get back," she said and Gust followed.

I waited for them to walk ahead and went to the flower I kneeled down.

I'v only seen a handful of flowers when I sneak out for food.

With a hesitant and shaky hand I touched the flower lightly.

Frost grew over it with a pattern of grace.

I was still in awe I knew I would regret it but the flower would die anyway.

I carefully picked it and held it close, I smelled it and it was like a fresh rain.

I put it in my hair and climbed the trees to catch up to them.

Maybe I could ask for more flowers?
No I can't do that they'll probably just run away or tell me I'm stupid for thinking anyone could like me a winter kid.

I went ahead and ran my hand along a long branch hanging over the path way to make long ice sickles.

Hopefully that catches their attention.

"The trees are so bare" I could hear Gust say as I saw them walk up.

"Gust look!" Rosie said point to the ice sickles, "aren't they beautiful?"

"Yeah," he said, "hey you don't think anyone lives here do you?"

"Come on there's only one winter kid and no one has seen her in years."

"I bet she lives here," he said, Rosie looked bewildered at him.

"Think those ice sickles weren't there before." Gust said.

She just rolled her eyes and picked up her Shifter.

"If she's really her then prove it," she said.

"Fine I will," he said them shouted, "hey winter kid if your here make it snow!"

I sat in silence listening to his echos bounce off nothing.

What did I have to lose?

So I made it snow.
