Chapter 13

She stormed out of the doors leaving the other two to look at her in confusion.

Out in the hall she shouted, "What do you think your doing here spying on us like that?" She demanded.

We saw the boy and Melanie came out and stand beside the now red faced girl.

"What's going on?" Melanie demanded glaring at us, Rosie was quick to respond, "We just wanted to see how Mark was doing," she said in a soft tone, "we weren't trying to be noisy."

"Little late for that," the girl said fixing her eyes on me, she leans closer and her mouth dropped.

Even with the big hat and new clothes my white hair and bright blue eyes were still noticeable.

"She's a Winter Kid!" she exclaimed taking a star back towards Melanie, "that's probably how Mark got sick," she pointed her finger at me," she brought the virus!"

Rosie and Gust seemed to take offense to that last comment because they stepped in front of me, "Now hold on a second, you have no prove that she was the cause of your friends illness."

Gust chimed in, "Yeah how could she? We only just got here not even an hour ago and she haven't touched or been in contact with anyone."

The tension between my friends and the girl who was accusing me was growing so Melanie stepped in and made everyone back away from each other.

"Okay kids how about we go into another room and talk," she said in a flaming voice.

We came into a bigger room with a desk and chairs, there were needles with different colored bottles of who knows what.

They all sat in the fluffy pink arm chairs but I chose a window seat to keep myself from getting lightheaded by all the excitement.

I looked around and saw Melanie had a cup of pens and behind her was a bookshelf with more books then my whole house.

I couldn't tell what they were about but I bet they were about health and how to cure sicknesses.

We sat waiting for someone to break to the silence, Melanie also felt the tension the room so she reached in her desk and pulled out a bowl with color small balls inside.

"Candy?" She asked us, we shook our heads but Gust gladly took one.

She sat the bowl down then folded her arms and studied our faces like she was looking for a liar or someone to call out.

"Okay you probably know my name," she started," how about I learn yours."

Rosie sat up strait and cleared her throat ignoring a glair from the summer girl behind her.

"I'm Rosie and this is my friends Gust and Demi," Rosie said she open her mouth to say more but Melanie put her hand up to stop her.

"How about I ask a few more questions before I hear what you have to say,"  Melanie said turning her look to me.

Since being in the woods for a long time and even before I never liked behind the center of attention, I always felt I would mess up or say something wrong, I'm just awkward.

Everyone was now looking at me, I shifted up tucking my legs underneath me and pressed my back against the window.
I knew without even looking that frost had already made its way up the glass into it's crystal like spirals that happen when I was nervous.

I swallowed hard and waited for her to talk, "Demi is your name?" She asked, I nodded, "could you tell me when the last time you had your shots?"

I stayed silent.

I never had my shots, I didn't know I needed them.
I was a little too busy hiding from bullies to care about my health.
But I must be healthy because I'v lived this long without any medications or shots.
Or maybe I am sick and I don't know it.
It could slowly be eating me away from the inside out.

"When was the last time you had a shot Demi?" She asked again, this time a little more forceful.
I looked down at my hands and then back up at her, "I'v never at a shot."
She seemed to change her expression quickly, "Well young lady in going to have to give you something," she said getting up and going out into another room.
"Good going, frostbite," the summer girl snapped.
"Hey, back off," Gust said turning around in his chair,
"Yeah, you don't even know why your friends is sick," Rosie joined in.

"Yeah we do," she said looking at me, "She has the Variant Virus."

Rosie and Gust seemed to pale, I became worried, "What's that?" I asked.
Rosie and Gust looked at me and took their time to answer, "The Variant Virus is the same sickness that killed the other Winter kids,"

I so sorry I will explain why I haven't been post Stay Awesome.
