Chapter 24 Threats and Warnings

"Namjoon?"

He lifted his head from his hands and remained slumped forward. Namjoon's gaze was empty as he met Charlotte's eyes.

"Are you doing alright?" she asked as she lingered in the bedroom doorway. A blanket was wrapped around her shoulders and her arms hugged her waist tightly. She looked cold. "I wanted to come up and check on you. You've been up here for a while."

Namjoon looked at the clock sitting on his bedside table. It was almost four in the morning. The sun had yet to rise. He began to doubt that it would. That today time itself had frozen and the night was eternal.

The nightmare would never end.

"It doesn't feel real," he muttered. Images of the burning houses remained fresh in his mind. He could still hear the sound of pained howls and screams, the crackling of the fire on fallen wood. He couldn't stop thinking about it.

Namjoon couldn't stop thinking about how cowardly he had acted.

If I had done more, would there be more survivors?

There was no word from Alpha Iris's pack. Namjoon and his friends appeared to be the only ones who escaped. He wasn't sure what was worse; anxiously waiting or knowing what came to pass.

It was the scent of Charlotte that brought him out of his downward spiral. The delicious soft peach and vanilla smell curled off her body. The dizzying effect of her Luna biology was taking its toll as her presence filled the room.

Namjoon's mouth fell open as he breathed her in. His eyes glazed over and for a moment, something within him loosened. The sudden desire to drag her further into his bedroom and bend her over on his bed. He wanted to melt into her and sink his teeth into her soft skin like an animal.

She looked good, he noticed. Older. Her form had filled out since last he saw her. The dips in her hips were more pronounced. Her shorts left her pretty thighs on display and her legs dotted with an occasional razor cut.

Charlotte's eyes narrowed a fraction. She glanced back at the door and pulled her blanket tighter around her shoulders. "I missed you."

"I missed you too," he replied softly.

"I wish I didn't have to be like this."

With great effort, Namjoon shoved away his primal desires and fell back on his bed. "Me too."

"Everyone is still awake," she continued. "Alpha sent out patrols to secure the borders. He also contacted the surrounding packs and warned them about what happened."

Namjoon's heart swelled with violent emotion. His body still smelled of smoke and ash. "Has anyone made it out?" he asked hesitantly. "Have the other packs seen any survivors?"

Charlotte was silent.

The corners of his mouth pulled wide as he fought the rise of tears. "Okay," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I'm so sorry, Namjoon," Charlotte said. She inhaled shakily, "I'm so, so sorry.

"It's not your fault."

"This shouldn't have happened."

Namjoon squeezed his eyes shut and nodded. "I know," he managed to choke out.

Charlotte approached him slowly, hesitantly. Namjoon understood why. He was an Alpha on the verge of an emotional breakdown. She couldn't read his mind. She wouldn't know that all he wanted was...

His throat constricted his rising sob. Namjoon opened his arms and pulled her into his embrace. He brought her onto his lap and cuddled against her body, clinging tightly. Namjoon rested his head on her shoulder, desperately breathing in her comforting scent until his mind was drunk on her pheromones.

Her rich peach and vanilla scent flooded his nose and mouth like he had taken a shot of hard liquor. A shot of her succulent presence; it was so strong that he felt it in his toes.

He wanted to forget everything and hide inside his wolf instincts until he couldn't feel anymore.

The impatient pain wouldn't be ripping down the walls of his heart.

"Oh Joon," Charlotte held him tight and pressed against him.

His body tipped back, back, back until they fell back onto the bed. Charlotte's body pinned him against the mattress. Her thighs straddled his hips as she brought herself up, practically sitting on top of him. She gazed down at him with nothing but sympathy and desperation.

"I want to help you," she confessed. "I'm not sure how to do that for you."

Namjoon's breath hitched as her hands spread across his sensitive stomach. He stared at her, unable to break away from her alluring gaze. His emotions were beginning to spiral. Her cheeks pinked as his scent strengthened; no doubt from the stress and guilt that was welling in his stomach.

Tears fresh on his face, he reached up and placed a hand on the back of her neck. He nudged her to lean down, closer to his face, yearning for the touch of her soft lips against his. A feeble attempt to numb the pain for even just a second.

"Kiss me?" he asked.

Charlotte's expression melted. She moved with his hand and pressed her mouth on his. She kissed him lightly, teasing his quivering lips with her sad smile. Then she leaned further and his body's weight shifted forward.

Namjoon's head lifted up to meet her kiss. He tilted sideways and locked his lips against hers like a key fitting into a lock. The blanket she held around her body fell and brushed against his knuckles, pooling around them.

Her eyelashes fluttered against his cold, wet cheeks and tickled his skin. The warmth radiating from her bare skin set fire to his frozen body, awakening him from his grief-induced slumber.

Namjoon wasn't sure how much time had passed. They lay on his bed, kissing softly and cradling their bodies together. Occasionally, Charlotte loosened a quiet moan from her lips as he nipped at her bottom lip. In turn, Namjoon's labored breaths matched the pace of the delicate squeeze of her hand around his cock, distracting and teasing.

They broke apart gently and he kissed down the length of her collarbone. He sucked at her beautiful skin until a mark was visible, just below her shirt line. A small token of thanks for her friendship, and... more.

Charlotte rolled onto her side and lay beside him. Her eyelids were heavy with clear exhaustion but she stayed awake until the sun began to rise.

In the hazy morning light, a new emotion unfurled within his heart. It was a mysterious feeling; he had never felt anything like it. He loved it; even if he couldn't place a name to it. It was almost like the sensation of safety and knowing your place in the world. Namjoon trusted that one day he would know its true name. All he needed to do was to savor it and rest within it.

While bathed in gray shadows, Charlotte stroked the side of Namjoon's cheek until he finally fell into a deep sleep.

Kim Taehyung knows the cruelty of violent packs firsthand. He was forced to run from his home when the pack he called family started to attack surrounding territories. He made his decision, and never looked back. During his escape, he ran across Jimin and they traveled together until they found Namjoon's cabin.

He never thought he would have to face the wrath of one of those packs again.

He didn't think they would hurt his mates.

It shouldn't have been them. It shouldn't be Yoongi.

Taehyung sits beside Yoongi on the small cot. He rests his hand on Yoongi's still hand and stares intently at his precious hyung, silently pleading for him to open his eyes and wake up. It is painful to wait. The silence tears a hole through his chest and Taehyung is beginning to find it difficult to breathe.

They sit inside a makeshift tent outside of the train car. Valentine and his group set it up for them so the human doctors could slip in and out quietly. The door to the train car did make an awful lot of noise, Taehyung supposes.

He squeezes Yoongi's hand as he loses himself to his thoughts. Flashbacks of the fight in the clearing return to Taehyung as he sits in silence. It's almost painful to recall, but he knows he'll have to come to terms with it at some point.

They killed Alpha Grayson.

Taehyung remembers the moment he silenced his remorse and hesitation to attack another wolf. It was a deliberate choice, and what he is capable of doing... is disturbing. The idea he has the capability to kill someone if he was angry enough.

It was for the pack, but was there another way?

Taehyung's stomach rumbles with ironic hunger. He could still taste blood and fur in his mouth.

A soft groan startles Taehyung and he focuses on his hyung with wide eyes. "Hyungie?" he asks.

Yoongi grimaces, scrunching his nose before he finally opens his eyes.

Taehyung lets out a sigh of relief. "Oh hyung," he says softly. He holds his hand close to his chest, leaning down at Yoongi's slightly blood-stained face.

Yoongi gazes up at him with fond eyes. "Tae..." he whispers.

"I was so scared you wouldn't wake up," Taehyung admits as a rush of emotion comes over him. He looks down at Yoongi's bandaged chest and recalls the inhuman roar Alpha Grayson made when he attacked Yoongi. "It looked so bad."

"I'm alright, pup, don't worry about me..." Yoongi winces and starts trying to sit up. "Where is everyone? Where are we?"

"They..." Taehyung glances back at the tent flap. "They left. Seokjin hyung, Jimin, and Jungkook left with Valentine's group to go to Calemari. They're going to save the others."

Yoongi expression shifts from confused to panicked. "They're what? Wait, Valentine's here?" His eyes shine with rising tears from pain.

Taehyung's heart rate spikes. "Don't get up!" he blurts, gently pushing Yoongi back down on the cot.

"No that isn't right," Yoongi argues with wide eyes. "How is Valentine here?"

"They arrived just in time," Taehyung explains, keeping his voice calm. "When Alpha Grayson attacked you... during the frenzy, they came out of the trees and chased them off. They received your message and came right away. They even came with doctors."

Yoongi stares at Taehyung, still frozen with fear. "I... sent a message?"

"Yes? Earlier. They said you sent them a message this morning."

He shakes his head slowly. "Not this morning... no. Last night I sent out a general message about a possible threat, but I didn't ask them to come."

Taehyung blinks. "But... they said you sent them a message this morning," he points out, wondering if Yoongi simply forgot. "Maybe you hit your head when he attacked you."

Yoongi shoots him a hard stare. "No. I didn't, Taehyung," he argues firmly.

"Then..." he trails off for a moment. "Then how do you explain this? Valentine came with help because we called them this morning. That's what he said."

Yoongi glances at the entrance to the small tent with a note of suspicion in his dark eyes. "I... I'm not sure. To be honest, I didn't think Valentine knew how to leave his territory. In the four years of us being here, he has never left his colony. He never does anything personally."

A wave of anxious nausea fills Taehyung's belly. He grimaces as a terrifying theory begins to unfold in the darkest corner of his mind. "It was for a good cause, hyung," Taehyung says instead, too afraid to acknowledge the unspoken.

Yoongi's bourbon scent takes on a bitterly sour note as his eyes narrow. "I don't like this."

Before Taehyung could reply, the flap to the tent slowly pushes open. A human girl, one of Valentine's doctors, sticks her head in. She smiles in relief, "Good, you're awake."

Yoongi watches her closely as she kneels beside him. She pulls out a small first aid kit from underneath the cot. "I need to check your bandages. May I?"

"Sure," he mumbles, keeping a wary eye on her.

Taehyung stares at Yoongi's half-curled hand before taking it in his. He holds it gently as the girl runs her hands over Yoongi's tied bandages. When her touch found a tender spot, Yoongi's grip tightens and a sharp yet quiet inhale through the corner of his lips. Taehyung did his best to soothe Yoongi's pain by whispering quiet praise and encouragement.

The girl finishes her work and offers them a reassuring smile. "Take it easy, alright?"

Sitting upright, Yoongi pulls Taehyung's arm closer to his body. "Yeah."

Then the girl leaves the tent without another word.

Taehyung glances at Yoongi from the corner of his eye. "Are you doing okay, hyung?"

"I still don't like this."

Taehyung shifts uncomfortably at his words. "I don't know. Maybe we just got lucky?"

"Honey, the message they might be talking about happened last night. It was only about reinforcing their borders. I didn't say anything about Alpha Grayson. I didn't call them here. They wouldn't know to come armed, and with doctors..."

Taehyung's heart does a small, panicked flutter in his chest. "How would they know to come with doctors?" he whispers. Then he shakes his head furiously, "No, hyung, you're scaring me. You don't know—, you don't know what happened."

Yoongi's eyes soften with empathy. He reaches up and cups Taehyung's cheek in his hand. "Oh pup, I think we should be scared." He withdraws his hand and slowly sits up from the cot. "It takes three hours to travel from Valentine's colony to here and that's if you know the right way. It's why Namjoon couldn't come home right away after dropping off those kids—"

Taehyung's body jumps with a newfound sense of alarm. "Those kids!" he repeats in horrified realization. He covers his mouth with his hand and sits back in horror.

Yoongi freezes in momentary shock, then his expression falls. "Those kids," he repeats, his voice heavy with dread. "It has been years since anyone from his colony has come here. Ever since they helped us build the house... We always had to go to their colony for trade."

"They said they were dared to come on a prank, but our home's location... some random kids wouldn't know it off the top of their head."

Yoongi clenches his jaw together and casts Taehyung a pained look. "No. They wouldn't. Unless an adult told them the rough location."

They sent those kids to find our home before today. There was no prank or dare; it was planned. And sending the kids back to do basic chores with us would only further confirm things in the daylight.

"No, hyung, what if we're overthinking this? What if it's a creepy coincidence? We don't have proof, it doesn't make any sense!" Taehyung argues as his heart starts to race. "Why would they waste resources on us if—, I mean, why come at all?"

"Why come at all? I..." Yoongi stops talking. Then he looks around the tent again. "Everyone's gone?"

"The others left to rescue Namjoonie hyung and the others. They left with Valentine and his men for Calemari a while ago. But hyung, do you really think Valentine is the bad guy here?"

Yoongi furrows his brow for a moment. "I'm not exactly sure, but something's off. Especially because we received that message from the others about a trap... We knew there was a possibility of the Nightwalkers setting a trap. It's clear that Alpha Grayson was working with the Nightwalkers to corner us."

"The message we heard from the others... It said the Nightwalkers were going to take over the supply chain and Valentine's colony. They wanted to take down our warning system, our radio," Taehyung recalls. "Why would Valentine be working with the people who want to take over their colony? Could they have been receiving threats too?"

"Unless this is a trap within a trap," Yoongi theorizes with a shaking voice. "Another plan to separate us from each other. Maybe the Nightwalkers do want Valentine's colony in the end, but maybe Valentine gave into their threats and sold us out."

"Valentine couldn't do that," Taehyung protests as small tears prick the corners of his eyes. "He couldn't!"

"It would make sense why those kids showed up when they did. It seems awfully convenient. A perfect way to confirm our location, and arrive exactly when Alpha Grayson's launches his attack."

"If Valentine couldn't beat them, then he would join them," Taehyung says in defeat.

Yoongi's face is an ashen gray. "They're going to kill them," he whispers.

His words send a tremor of fear down Taehyung's spine. Taehyung fights back a rush of panicked tears and tries to shake his head. "This is... this is..." He presses his hands against his eyes until he sees flickering spots in the darkness.

Memories from earlier flash through his head as he recalls how Alpha Grayson's pack ran the moment they saw Valentine's men. Although the men fired a few shots, they didn't hit any of the wolves. The wolves didn't attack the men either. It wasn't like they were on the losing side; Taehyung wasn't sure if they were going to leave the clearing alive.

It was too good to be true. It was a lucky break that the wolves didn't stay behind to protect Alpha Grayson's body or take revenge for killing their Alpha. Taehyung wasn't thinking about it at the time, but now it's all he can focus on.

Did they hate their Alpha so much to leave his body behind in a rival pack's territory without a second thought?

Taehyung removes his hands from his closed eyes and inhales shakily. "Hyung, have you ever seen Alpha Grayson in person?"

Yoongi blinks at him. "No. Namjoon and Charlotte were the only ones to meet him in person. That was two years ago. Why?"

"It's just... when they left, they left the body behind. They left so quickly. It was like they didn't even care."

"About their Alpha's body?" Yoongi repeats.

Taehyung nods.

"That is strange. This whole thing is strange. What's confusing me the most is why bother patching me up?" Yoongi looks down at his bandages and prods at their edges. "Why bother to orchestrate a rescue if they want our territory?"

"It's not our territory, hyung, they want our radio," Taehyung reminds him.

Yoongi touches his throat and nods slowly. "The radio. That's me. The voice on the radio."

The tent flap rustles and tears open without warning.

A savage growl unleashes from the depths of Taehyung's throat and his body swivels to stand protectively in front of Yoongi. His eyes burn with rising tears and pure rage, a primal desire to protect almost suffocating his humanity.

A human shrieks in the tent flap opening and flings backward, disappearing from sight.

"Taehyung!" Yoongi shouts.

His shoulders shudder as the threat of the transformation rises to the surface. He stalks forward with another growl building in his throat, teeth barred and jaw tightly clenched. He peers between the tent flap's sliver of an opening and stares down the human who is foolishly laying on the ground.

The human gasps for breath, hand to their heart. "Holy shit," she whispers. "Okay, that was not a good idea."

Taehyung's lips curl back into a snarl. "What do you want?" he asks lowly.

The human makes eye contact with him through the small opening and freezes. "I... I'm just here to check on him again. I don't mean you any harm."

Liar!

"Taehyung, calm down," Yoongi hisses under his breath. "You're going to give us away. You need to calm down or they're going to suspect us."

Taehyung struggles to breathe. He's finding it difficult to focus on anything besides the threat laying before him. A headache blossoms in the back of his skull as his body remains painfully tense. The rush of protectiveness slowly ebbs and he withdraws from the tent flap, breathing hard.

Yoongi stares at him, worried. "Tae?"

Taehyung gulps and stumbles back from the tent. He plops down beside Yoongi with wide eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me."

"You're worried, it's okay..."

"Hyung, what if—, what if something happens to them? What are we going to do?"

In a slow, careful movement, Yoongi opens his arm for Taehyung. Taehyung scoots forward and cuddles in Yoongi's embrace. The bandages make for a poor replacement for a shirt and leave exposed spaces of skin. His dark hair, curling at the edges from its length, is still a tangled mess from the fight. His skin carries the scent of blood and hot bourbon, Taehyung breathes it in as he buries his face into the side of Yoongi's neck.

"We'll think of something," Yoongi reassures quietly.

Taehyung rests in his embrace for a moment, allowing himself a moment to breathe.

The doctor does not return to the tent and Taehyung is grateful for it.

He only wants to be with Yoongi.

Unfortunately, their momentary rest had to come to an end. "Hey pup, do you know where my gun went?"

Taehyung shakes his head no.

"I think it would be best if we went into the train car. Maybe we could try to warn the others through the radio?"

"We can try," he whispers.

Yoongi kisses the top of his head and brushes his hair back. "It's going to be okay, pup."

Taehyung closes his head and nuzzles his face against Yoongi's soft skin. He cuddles closer to his hyung, wishing today was a strung-out nightmare. He wants nothing more than to wake up in bed, tangled up in his mates' arms, and smother them with his berry scents. His daydreams, as golden as they are, start an ache in his belly from his intense yearning.

I wish none of this happened.

Yoongi lightly pats his back, signaling he's ready to leave. He tears himself away from Yoongi with a sad pout hanging on his lips. He looks into Yoongi's eyes, wishing things could have been different today. Yoongi presses a small kiss onto Taehyung's pouty lips, "I love you."

Taehyung takes in a deep inhale, sniffling loudly. "I love you too."

They stand up from the cot together. Taehyung keeps a steady hand on Yoongi as he finds his balance. Yoongi does his best to hide his wince, however, Taehyung knows when he puts up a brave face.

Taehyung slowly peeks out of the tent for any sign of the doctors. The clearing laid before them is empty. They must have moved the bodies judging by the blood stains left on the permafrost grass. "All clear," Taehyung whispers.

They step out of the tent and set their sights on the train car. Taehyung leads Yoongi out into the open, keeping a careful eye on their surroundings. If their theories are to be believed, Valentine is a potential enemy. It also can't hurt to be cautious; maybe Alpha Grayson's pack will return for revenge.

The sky darkens as the sun falls from its midpoint. The shadows of the forest deepen and its sinister claws stretch across the bloodstained clearing. Taehyung swears the newborn ghosts breathe on his body with every gust of wind.

"No! What are you doing?"

Taehyung jumps at the shout and searches the treelines for the source of the voice. A man emerges from the treeline, wide-eyed and afraid. He walks up the small path that leads back to the house. He locks eyes with Taehyung, "No, go back into the tent!"

What is he doing over there?

Yoongi's legs strain as he forces himself to stand taller. "I'm fine."

The man stalks towards them, intent lacing his every advancing step. "No, you're not! Go back into the tent!" he commands.

Taehyung bristles at the man's tone. "It's fine, he's okay now. We're just taking a walk."

"No, you shouldn't be out here!"

Yoongi scowls, "Why not?"

The man makes a gargled sound of distress and throws his hands out. "Go back into the tent!"

Taehyung stares at him in doubt. He is acting weird. "But we're just... walking..."

The man stops a few feet away from them and throws a nervous look over his shoulder. "You're injured! You need to go back inside. Now. Doctor's orders."

Yoongi snorts. "It doesn't matter. My family is in trouble. We're not going to sit around and do nothing."

"Then what are you doing?"

Taehyung holds his breath.

Yoongi thinks about it for a moment. "Namjoon and the others have a walkie-talkie. We can send them a message and ask if they're okay."

"You're going to open the car?" the sudden hope in the man's voice rings clear. "Unlock the door?"

Yoongi pauses. Then he frowns slightly. "You tried to open it?"

"Isn't that where the radio is?"

Taehyung presses his lips into a firm line and his arm tightens around Yoongi.

Yoongi squints as a gust of wind whisks through the clearing. "Where is everyone?" he asks instead. "Who all is left?"

"They left for Calemari. They should be there soon so I don't think you need to send them a message."

"Why do you need the radio, if you're not going to call the others?"

"Why not? It's a good thing to have around, just in case." The man cocks his head slightly and takes a slow step forward. "You were going to open the door. Don't you need a key? Is it back at the house? Or do you have one on you?" The earthy scent of human sweat wafts across the field and stirs up Taehyung's anxiety.

"Were you looking for the key?" Yoongi asks in a level tone. He adjusts his stance and shifts his weight off Taehyung. "Did you think it was in the house?"

The man stares at them before scoffing in disbelief. "What of it? Yes, we looked in the house. We need the key. You said it yourself, we need the radio!"

"It's our radio. We'll send the message ourselves. We don't need an audience."

The man's shoulders rise. "We're allies, aren't we?" he snaps. "What's the matter with you? We came all this way to help defend your territory and sent our own men out to rescue your friends. There's no need to be defensive. Now, give us the key and go back into the tent!"

Taehyung grimaces when he sees movement among the trees. He begins to catch wind of more human scents mingling around them. It wasn't there before.

Yoongi's nose scrunches. "We don't need help sending the message. We will do it ourselves," he repeats firmly. "That should be a problem."

"If you won't give us the key, then we'll have to take it from you," the man threatens. He holds his hand out and starts to walk toward them. "Give us the key and then we won't have a problem."

Taehyung's stomach ties itself into a panicked knot. He drags Yoongi back with his hooked arm and tries to pull him behind him. "Stop it!" he shouts. "We don't have to fight about this! It's not a big deal! Stop making it bigger than it is!"

A swift whistle sounds from the trees and a dark streak flies through the corner of Taehyung's vision. He startles and turns around to see an arrow now sticking out from the tree behind them.

Have I seen that arrow before?

"Taehyung!" Yoongi shouts.

Taehyung breaks away from Yoongi and transforms. His front paws slam down in front of him and he sprints toward the man. He shoves the man down and goes after the man holding the crossbow. The humans shout in panic as Taehyung chases them down and flees from the scene.

Taehyung sets his sight on the armed human and barrels through the underbrush with the rage of a charging bull. His shoulder slams into a large tree as he runs yet the burst of pain never comes. He opens his mouth, teeth barred and salivating, he bites the man's leg before he had a chance to scream. Taehyung drags him backward with his jaw locked around the man's shin, threatening to break a bone from his grip.

"HELP ME!" the man screams out.

No one comes to his rescue.

Taehyung drags him further and the taste of blood floods his mouth. He snorts through his nose as the scent turns his stomach. The man squirms and pleads as he is pulled across the forest floor and out into the clearing.

Then Taehyung lets him go.

The man scrambles away, briefly attempting to run but nearly falling down from the open wound. He hiccups for breath as he scurries away and runs after his fellow humans, disappearing into the forest once more.

Taehyung pants as he watches them go. He waits for a minute to make sure they are truly gone before looking back at Yoongi. Yoongi is thankfully okay and pressing himself into the ground, eyes wide in shock. "Are you okay?" he asks.

Taehyung bows his head. He braces himself and then shifts back into a human, ending up on his hands and knees. He gasps from the effort and almost lays down completely. He blinks rapidly to allow his eyes to adjust and regain his bearings. His shoulder feels numb.

"I'm okay," he rasps. He wipes his arm against his mouth and smears blood across his skin. Taehyung's lips curl back as drops of blood slip into his mouth and his stomach rolls. He tastes the rising acid before retching violently. He throws up whatever is left of his breakfast, coughing violently, and barely breathing.

Tears slowly fill his eyes as he gasps. He struggles to breathe as puke shoves its way through his nose and down his throat. It burns. It burns so much.

"Pup, here." Yoongi materializes at his side, offering a scrap of his bandage. He carefully wipes Taehyung's lips and instructs him to blow his nose into another scrap. Taehyung does as he's told despite feeling so miserable.

"You did so well, pup, it's going to be okay. You protected us. You did so well..."

"Hyung," Taehyung croaks, "we murdered someone today."

"You saved my life," Yoongi says as he cleans Taehyung's face with a steady hand.

When Taehyung calms down, they stand from the ground together. "What do we do?" Taehyung asks as his legs shake underneath him. His shoulder begins to ache and spread down his arm; he does his best to avoid moving it.

"First, we're going back to the house. We don't know if that's where they ran to so we need to be careful. They're after the key and now they know I have it."

"What about Jiminie and the others? They're with Valentine, hyung!"

Yoongi shakes his head. "If we try to warn them, then Valentine will hear it. It might put them in more danger."

"What if we tried to send them a danger code?"

"Then they might think that we're in danger. They need to rescue Namjoon, Charlotte, and Hoba first. In the meantime, we're going to figure this out."

Taehyung nods slowly. "Okay... how are we going to do that?"

"Grab the arrow for me. We're going to compare it to the one we received supposedly from the Nightwalkers. And we're going to look at Namjoon's notes on Alpha Grayson, which are in his office."

"Are we going to look for his body?"

"To check his scent, yes. Whatever is left of it."

Taehyung feels a sense of purpose return to him. He's going to help the others the best way he can. He's going to unravel this situation with Yoongi and deliver the message to the others when the time is right.

He only hopes that they'll deliver the warning before it's too late.
