Karina woke up at her desk just like on any other day that was going to go, but everything is light, everything.
She smiled to hear birds humming outside the window, whispering in gentle style the soft sunlight coming out through her window and whispering out the curtains gently.
She felt a new emotion wash over her as she calmed down, but as she lay there, she let her hand creep up without realizing it, reaching her lips, and deluged her brain into remembering the kiss they had shared last night with Winter.
Her legs thumped about the desk; she couldn't help herself from wearing a goofy smile plastered across her face.
Trying to shake the feeling from her, Karina hesitantly tapped at her own cheeks, but that did nothing to change the fact that she was still grinning like an idiot in love.
She flew toward the bathroom to wash up quickly, hoping cool water would somehow settle her racing thoughts, but even in the shower, she found herself blushing and giggling.
Everything-from every thought, every breath-was Winter.
Karina smoothed back her hair and straightened her clothes before dashing into the classroom to fetch Winter. Her heart was pounding hard in expectation. She swallowed a few times; her throat felt drier than usual, then pounded on the door.
At that, Winter's face broke out instantly into a dazzling smile-the entire world could have melted into a mess at that moment, and Karina would not have cared.
"Good morning," Winter said softly, but warmly.
"Good morning," Karina replied, her voice catching in her throat as she nervously flicked her eyes to Winter's. Her cheeks flared with pinkness. She couldn't help it-she couldn't stop smiling or stealing quick glances at Winter.
They were sitting opposite to each other so Karina saw Winter's leg bounce up and down nervously under the desk.
Finally, Winter spoke up in a soft whispery tone, "So... " Her voice sounded nervous, just as Karina felt.
Karina also realized they needed more than a few minutes prior to class to discuss what was happening. She lightly smiled and stood up then reached out, taking Winter's hand; it was frigid against her warm skin.
"Come with me," Karina said, pulling Winter out of the chair.
Winter looked down to see they were still clasped together; her squeezing Karina's silky, warm fingers was making her go racing.
Softly, Karina smiled at them, pulling them out of the classroom. Winter found herself running as well. They both ran full-tilt.
Karina's laughter rebounded throughout the halls; Winter, trying to tell her to slow down, couldn't help but laugh too, caught up in Karina's spirited energy.
Lastly, they had reached the rooftop where creaking of the door was heard as bright, crystalline blue sky with golden rays of the morning sun gently dusted everything they touched with their warm rays.
Soft play by gentle breeze with hair; Karina had Winter's hand in hers as she merely stood there, basking in the warmth of the sun as well as coolness of the air.
It was just the perfect moment in time. Winter closed her eyes for that one brief moment, breathed in the serenity of the second, and felt everything fall into place.
For the first time in long time, she felt perfect. The tension and uncertainty just melted in the breeze.
Karina's heart continued to pound in the chest as she followed Winter's face, soft sunlight illuminating it like a dream. Winter's smile, wide and honest and absolutely beautiful, made butterflies flutter in her belly.
She couldn't help but look; her eyes were all love as the world seemed to hold its breath. It was like the world had momentarily stopped, and there only were the two of them, side by side and under the morning sky and hand in hand.
Standing side by side against the wall, it was comfortable but also thick with tension between them.
Winter reaches out and takes Karina's hand, sliding it inside of her pocket, for that contact was what kept Karina earthed. Karina leans into Winter, feeling the magnetic attraction there-that it was so strong that giving up was like losing part of themselves to give up.
There was something between them, heavy with unspoken emotion, swirling about like a storm full of electric buzz and nervous excitement.
They both began talking together.
"Um. so-" They both stopped, then broke out into laughter but said in unison, "You go first."
It was so shy and sweet that their hearts felt connected. Karina smiled when she cleared her throat to finally look at Winter. She could feel Winter's fingers squeeze hers tighter as if both were hanging on for life.
"So. What are we now?"
Karina's voice shook a little as she looked up at Winter, and a spoor of nervousness crept into her eyes.
Her heart pounded agonizingly as uncertainty crept in with the question poised in midair.
Winter said not a single word; every second ticked by with Karina's smile crumbling away. It wasn't just the thudding in her heart but something worse: a crack starting its way through her heart as fear slowly etched in.
Slowly withdrawn from the pocket of Winter, and the tears waited for her to raise the sight that was low with fear of what was coming.
Winter could sense Karina slipping away from her, and her heart clenched at the feeling. She gripped Karina's hand harder, not letting her go.
"President," she whispered softly, but Karina just hummed back at her, still refusing to meet her eyes.
Winter could see Karina's shoulders shook a little; with a knot in her throat, she cupped Karina's chin gently and lifted her face.
It was that instant when the eyes met and Winter saw those tears well at Karina's eyes and the pain reflected off of her. Something in her seemed to break.
Karina's lip trembled. She took a deep, sharp breath and clamped down on her lip, holding herself from breaking down completely.
Winter's vision began to blur from her own tears as she roughly wiped Karina's away. She was feeling the same thing: loss of something valuable, which smarts her.
Without a thought, Winter lean and kissed Karina desperately, washing away from both their consciences the anguish they were feeling.
Karina sniffed at first and tried to push away Winter; it was stirring emotions inside herself, confusing, hurt.
But Winter was not to be so deterred-so, holding Karina to her as their tears mixed into the kiss.
Karina slowly succumbed; closing her eyes, she allowed the kiss of Winter whose heart melted into the warmth of Winter's embrace.
The lavender fragrance of Winter's skin consumed her and though she was weak, Winter steadied her and never let her fall.
They finally pulled away, panting.
Winter's face flushed, and she looked everywhere, not quite sure how to say what she was trying to say.
"I. I don't know how to explain this," Winter started awkwardly, clearly flustered.
"I've never felt like this before and I hope the kiss... kind of tells you how I feel because I really don't know how to say it."
Karina couldn't help it. Winter's awkwardness was too cute. She was crying herself, but there was something terribly endearing in the way Winter looked so shy and uncertain.
"Shut up," Karina whispered softly, still smiling as she pulled Winter into another kiss. When they parted once more, Karina spoke, her voice soft but dripping with affection.
"I can kiss you anytime... as punishment for making me cry."
Winter smiled, releasing an authentic bursting wide smile from behind her face as relief and joy tore through her.
"Deal," she said with happiness, her heart growing at the sight of Karina's smile across her face.
In that second, everything made sense again, the pain slightly dissipating because they had embraced into the warmth of the morning sun.
