Librarby
—Your POV—
Bells jingle above head as you enter, walking over to the counter, which a blue, cloaked monster sits behind. It immediately straightens as you walk over. "Hello... tra la la." It lilts, almost like a song as you make your way over.
"Hi there." You reply, giving a firm nod as you lean on the counter a little, grinning. It's reading a book called 'Sell the act of Librarian!'... So not a real book. Looking back to the black abyss of its hood, you speak again. "Do I need like, a membership or anything to read here?" You really didn't want to be here long... which meant not handing out your information.
"Not at all... browsing is free." That sing-song voice drifts from its hood and it straightens, standing a little taller than you. "Anything in particular you're looking for? Tra la la."
Well... is there? You kind of want to learn about the formation of the OmegaVerse Jr. some more. maybe learn about the real thing too. But also maybe get some background on Dream and Nightmare if you can. Maybe even Reaper. They're supposed to be some kind of gods right? There must be some desperate authors out there writing up whatever they can on them... like the Greeks and their Olympian deities.
"I wanna know about the Twins... and this universe... and the other gods of this place." You scratched the back of your neck, offering a sheepish grin with your somewhat odd reply. "Just maybe some world history y'know?"
"I understand." It nods, coming from behind the counter. "Follow me."
The cozy library seems to stretch on much more on the inside. You've counted more shelves than this place is wide enough to hold! But... maybe when you go back outside you should get a closer look?
Nevertheless, you're led far back into the library, where dust and cobwebs collect on the shelves. Old, thick books line them too, spines embroidered with shining letters, names of books and they're no doubt famous authors. You run your hand over a few of the lower ones, awestruck. Some of the books are old and worn.
"...Might I ask why you may be wishing to learn such tales of old?" The cloaked monster asks, turning to you with a weight of an inquisitive stare. "Many of today's young humans are uninterested... even bored with them...Tra la la..."
"Oh..." You stalled for a moment, chuckling. Just how much do you reveal to this guy huh? Judging off how stingy Nightmare was last time about you being his 'spy' or whatever... he wouldn't take it well if you just spilled all his beans. "I uh... just got here... wanted to find out how and why this place exists, I guess." You offer a small grin.
Seemingly convinced, the monster nods. "I see... enjoy your read, tra la la." And with that, it leaves you to your own devices. Time to stuff your nose between some pages!
First off, you pick a book. You seem to be in just the right section too. There are books on the OmegaVerse, this weird place, Core, Nightmare, Dream, Reaper... Killer... Dust... Horror...?" Wait, wait why are they up there?
In all your time with them, you never thought that they could possibly have much more popularity or influence as you... but it seems you were just proven majorly wrong. Curiosity getting the better of you, you reach out and pluck a book from the shelves. Its title: 'Horror: Glutton of the Multiverse.' Strangely captivating. While you don't really appreciate it insulting your literal significant other like that, you still crack it open for a short skim.
What you find is not what you expect.
Well— you knew Horror had quite the appetite and he wasn't afraid to exactly... fight for food. Long nights in the kitchen proved as such. But what you didn't know was all the books claims of stuff like cannibalism and mass homicide. You... you knew the person you decided to hook up with wasn't the best... but the way the book makes it out... he's just a killing, eating machine put together for terroristic purposes.
Feeling maybe a bit sick after the first couple pages, you wedge the book back up there. Could just be rumors, exaggeration even. Don't believe everything you see in books. But, that stuff was... kinda of nerve-wracking... maybe you'll review it later.
For now, you pull down one about Killer, once again shocked by the outrageously claims of the book in your hands. The first paragraph is enough to send shivers down your spine.
Killer, as his name suggests, is a ruthless, corrupt murderer and pillager. Though, unlike behavior exhibited from his comrades, he seems to favor cruel, unusual torture, and a slow, agonizing death for his victims. It has been seen and recorded that...
You snap the book shut. You really shouldn't be so surprised... Did you somehow get soft with a group of multiverse pillaging monsters? How...? Where did your sense of logic go?
Putting the book away, you sigh. You're torn between absolutely terrified of information lurking just below the surface of your day-to-day life, and the desire to believe everything is still ok. You guessed it was pretty obvious when the Lord of Negativity accepted you into his mansion and let you live there.
You feel so dumb and so scared, yet oddly numb at the same time. How do you deal with this...? At the same time though, there's some overhanging sorrow that you never took the time to address. The destruction of your home and all you'd ever known. Maybe this was whiplash?
Steeling your resolve, you fish a book from one of the higher shelves. This one is called; 'Reaper and what he doesn't want you to know.' It's kind of like a clickbait book, but you shrug off the suspicious titled and crack it open. Particles of dust spring out of the giant novel. You flap some of it away, settling on the floor for a long read.
Time to get some insight on death himself, you suppose. Maybe it'll give you a hint to whatever he was trying to tell you before your psuedo-kidnapping.
And whatever grudge Nightmare and the others have against him.
