A long, long time ago...
—Your POV—
"A century, maybe two or three ago—no one really knows—two of the most powerful forces had a disagreement... a dispute. A fight..." Az begins, the three of you settling onto a park bench. Az in the middle.
Chara crosses their arms, muttering about history lessons as Az takes a deep breath, eyes alight with an enthusiastic fire as he looks up at you with sparkles illuminating his dark eyes.
"So once upon a time..."
[Flashback time let's go also NOT Xtale I swear I just have a hc for this story]
"We had an agreement."
Error stood, arms crossed, seething, clearly seething, but composed somehow. He didn't scream, or curse, or glitch, or destroy, he just stood, cold and distant as Ink stared up at him, hands innocently holding Broomie behind him as his eye lights shifted to a blue question mark and a green square.
"What?" He asked, rocking on his toes as Error stood within the Doodlesphere. So close. Too close to everything he'd cultivated and nurtured and did his very best to procure to perfection. His blood secretly boiled, innocent outlook hiding a deadly, poisonous rage. He loathed this destructive nuisance.
"You l-little shit." One little overlapped part of speech. Anger leaked through with a bitter expletive as he marched forward and swept Ink up by the collar. The shorter skeleton simply stared, unphased. "No more creation, no more destruction." He growled, far too close to Ink's would-be ear.
"Glitchy..." Ink started, gently settling a hand on the one currently wrapped up in his collar. "It was an accident! A lil' slip of the brush is all! Like how you 'accidentally' destroyed that one KittyTale I made! Not cool."
"Yeah w-w-well you know what—what?" Error dropped him onto his rear, and the creative god glared up at him, a red X and yellow triangle filling his sockets. "I think I'm 'a-a-accidentally' going to—to tear this hellhole apart!"
The movement was quick, practiced, in a moment, every AU, every last sheet of paper was tied up in blue strings. Ink already had his brush drawn, ready to fight, to hurt if need be.
"Wh-Wh-What're you gonna do when I rip a-all your st-stupid scribbles to sh-shreds!?" Error hissed, grin dangerously wide as Ink stared, helpless, but also very, very pissed off.
"E-Error." Ink said, voice uncharacteristically low, and wavering. His sockets twitched. Anger, fury, rage. It was all he felt. "If you make even a micro-tear in any of my—"
The sound of paper tearing filled the whole Doodlesphere, Ink screamed, loud and horrified as he fell to his knees, hearing all of his creations go to waste in a blink. All the time, the effort, the cultivation.
All that emotion.
He was going to kill Error.
[Flashback End]
"Long story short, they beat each other up a lot and Ink sorta won." Az's energetic, cheery voice continues, and he grins up at you while Chara sits, arms crossed next to their friend. "He's pretty smart, so he took all the pieces and put them together to make this place! Which is why it's so diverse."
"Why didn't he just put everything back with its own pieces?" You ask, arching a brow. So... they fought? All the 'gods' had history... but you wouldn't imagine wars or fights between much of anyone except... except the twins. "Wouldn't—"
"wHy DiDn'T hE jUsT pUt EvErYtHiNg BaCk wItH iT's OwN pIeCeS?" Chara mimics, huffing and rolling their big red eyes. "Well duh, Error destroyed most of it, which is why this place is so small. You should save all your dumb ultra-specific questions for some geezer who remembers all that."
"Chara..." Az whispered, pouting at his friend. "I don't think we have anyone that old."
"Dad would know." Chara mused, smirking as their fiery eyes locked with Az's. "We should totally take them to see dad."
"Are you sure...?" Az muttered, discussing the matter as though you weren't sitting right beside him on a park bench. Chara leans in to whisper something, and Az shakes his head. "We could just go on Undernet for all that." He looks a bit exasperated.
"So what're we doing?" You interject, two pairs of eyes turning on you. "I don't really have anywhere to be... so I guess I'll be coming along."
"You could go to the library." Chara said quietly, almost wistfully. "Az and I have to go home soon. The Sun's going down."
"Oh..." You slowly rise, they do too, Az looks quizzically to Chara before back at you. "I'll be seeing you then."
"We'll be seeing you too!" Az giggled, waving you off as he began in the opposite direction. "Nice meeting you!"
"You as well!" You call, catching the smallest over-the-shoulder wave from Chara before the duo disappeared around a barrage of trees. Soft footsteps echo away as you stand alone in the park, looking around before making your way back towards the town. Apparently they had a library... maybe you can pick up something there? Find some stuff on this place? On the skeletons maybe?
Heading down the street, you ignore the eyes that turn as you walk briskly. The stares only last a moment... you guess you're just a new guy around here. No prior engagement with anyone.
It's not hard to find, a giant yellow building with pretty glass windows and a sign up top that reads 'LIBRARBY.' It's misspelled, but you just assume it's still the library. Looking through the glass, you see books anyways.
Bells jingle overhead as you enter. A cloaked monster looks up from the book it's reading as you stroll in, looking out at the shelves before making your way to the counter.
Just what might this place have in store for you?
~~~~~~~~~~
Huh... I think I have all the lore fleshed out now. Just don't be upset if it doesn't all get covered... looking into the past to determine the future rn kinda.
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed!
