Dream

In my dream

there are rivers of chocolate,

lollypop highways,

gingerbread houses,

candy floss clouds

in a heaven of blueberry sky.

In my dream

rain is milkshakes and lemonade

snow is popcorn and chips.

wind blows sugar and spice.

trees shed licorice leaves

on a ground of graham cracker crust .

In my dream

I do not taste these delights.

Seagulls swarm down,

devour everything,

then peck at me

until only my pallid bones are left;

white skeleton on the grey ground.

I awake

cold

empty

insatiable

a hollow hunger

food can never fill.
