Later that day we are out helping people and when Shiny got there he was looking at people faces, blood and dust also some dirt smudged all over. And it that doesnt give him PTSD I don't know what will. They probably will hear about this in the U.S. tomorrow so might as well write a letter saying I'm fine. My family knows where I'm stationed. I sit down by a burnt tree still red at some branches of ash and char.
Dear Family,
By now I'm pretty sure you've heard about the missile hitting and have probably been worrying, don't worry. I'm fine, all the others are fine. I know this will mean that the Allies will be planning air attacks soon for support and to stop these missiles from striking down on us. I will see you in two months, in August.
Love,
Mark
As I finish writing I see Blue Jay, Sheriff, and Shiny all trying to lift a piece of sheet metal. I joined them and under it there was a body, not a civilian, but a soldier. A German soldier.
Shiny"Why would someone do this?"
"They are throwing kamikazes at us in missiles, that's the beginning of a new hell."
Sheriff"That ain't new, the Japs have been doing that in the Pacific as long as we've been fighting."
Blue jay"Man I hated being station there, except I was moved here after Pearl Harbour. I was on the U.S.S. Arizona and was late on my way to the ship. Heh. The funny thing is that morning, I thought to myself for being late again, man I'm going to get killed. But, I was wrong.*starts to cry* That's the one time I wish I was right."
We sat there in silence until Blue Jay got up and left and went back to the base. Then Shiny. And before Sheriff left, he said this.
"They say the first thing you think about being under attack is to get to your battle station. You never think of death. Thinking of it will distract you and lead you to it. In battle the only thing keeping you from death is yourself."
And walked into the base. After he left I thought of what Sheriff said, was he right? I look out by the crater that once used to by houses and see family's, scared to death, then my sight focused on a kid running around. He yelled
"MAMA? DADA? Where are you?"
I got up and walked to him. By now he ran and kneeled by two body's, a man and woman.
"Mom? Dad? Wake up! We need to go! Mom! Dad! Please! WE NEED TO GO! MOM! DAD! ARE YOU LISTENING?!"
He then broke down in tears.
"Mom. Dad. Wake up. Please."
I walk up to him and kneel beside him.
"Hey kid. Whats up?"
My mom and dad aren't waking up. They've been sleeping for awhile."
I check their pulses, nothing.
"I'm sorry." I say.
