What If Burn Became Queen? (Warning: Death, Blood)
Burn, head held high, growled at her two pesky sisters. Who were they to think that they could best her, Queen Burn? Queen Burn... I like the sound of that. She grinned, flicking her tongue out as she surveyed the area.
Her worthless sister was speaking, but of course she wasn't listening. No, she was imagining how good her head would look displayed on her throne room wall. Still, her voice managed to sneak in. "Didn't you get my present, Burn?"
Burn glared down at her sister in the silence. What was she planning now?!
"Yes, sister... I believe I did. Smolder." She glared to the side at the pale yellow SandWing with a black diamond pattern across his wings.
"Yes... Uh, it's in the treasury. I'll, uh, retrieve it now. Um. Queen Burn."
Once Smolder had scrambled away, Burn slammed her claws down on the stone beneath them.
She leaned in, close to Blister's face, letting a small amount of fire and watching it dance down her back. Blister almost let out an idle cry, but forced herself to keep her mouth shut.
OOO
Smolder's assortment of keys, chains, and bells jingled as he walked back to the....fight? He held a large, reinforced box, and set it down between the two sisters, before quickly backing away. Burn might have hated him, but she had to admit that he had survival instincts.
"Burn, be careful," one of the especially pitiful dragonets cautioned. Oooh, how she would love to see her mossy eyes become glassy. She saw the plaque beside the lovely display. And next to it, the NightWing! Ever since the last one was ripped up by her guest, she hadn't been able to replace it... Annoyingly, the... ah, SandWing was speaking. "I - I think this might be a trick."
"Of course it is," Burn hissed, sharpening her claws. "Especially if it's from my clever little sister. Sending me a present, thinking I'll open it without any suspicion." She growled, glaring at the said little sister. "As if I don't recognize the hiss of a dragonbite viper when I hear it."
"It's not a trick-" started Blister, her ever calculating eyes so dark and calm. However, Burn interrupted her with laughter.
"Hah! Ahahahah!" She snorted. "Ah, well. Trick's on you! You thought this would kill me. Ah, what will you think before it kills you?!" Quick as a flash, her claws flipped the lid off and tossed the contents at her sister's horrified face. "Can't squirm your way out of this now, can you, sister."
Blister's screams echoed throughout the desert, and the onlooking dragons could only watch in silence. Blaze, however, seemed to be throwing a fit, shrieking as she took to the sky.
Suddenly, one of the onlooking dragons screamed, "THEY'RE STILL ALIVE!!!" They? Ah, you're tricky, sister, even in death. A flurry of movement, then all of the dragons extended their wings and flew up, staying out of the vipers' range.
Each dragon was eyeing the vipers with wariness, except maybe Blaze, who was too busy staying away from Blister's body. Burn stared down at it, her muscular wings beating in the windless night. Perfect... A dragonbite viper victim and my dead sister, all in one.
Suddenly, one of the dragons in the sky swooped down, snatched up a snake, and snapped its spine, and the screeches quieted some. Burn could hear the crack resound throughout the silence.
Although it had been a trick, Burn had always wanted a dragonbite viper for her collection. She bared her jagged teeth, torchlight glinting off of them, and swooped down for her viper. "Crack!" Snake down.
She soared back up, prize in talons. Burn grinned a menacing grin towards her youngest sister, who managed to shudder delicately while at the same time in flight, trying to balance out the weight of her jewels. She bobbed up and down in the air, and Burn cackled at the sight. If there was any doubt about who would win then, there surely isn't now.
Burn landed, her large wings folded, and her scars stood out against her dusty scales. Blaze landed behind Glacier, shivering. "Come, sister," Burn hissed. "Time to end this."
Blaze hesitated, then took a baby step. Then another. Then another. Soon, she was looking up at Burn's horrible face, and she trembled under her crown. "I...I..."
"I, I," Burn mocked. "Go join Blister." With that, she leaped at Blaze, pinned her down, and began killing her, just as she would a victim to her collection.
OOO
Burn walked through her tower, wandering past five-legged RainWings and that one SandWing with red-ish scales who was obviously a hybrid. Then she turned to her prize - that one tiny, golden-scaled SandWing. She looked up at the glassy green eyes with a hideous smile. Just what I wanted.
Next to her was the NightWing, his face full of fear. Puny thing. Still, he was unique.
Oh, and the best of all... her mind journeyed back to that night she won her throne...
Burn hissed triumphantly, extending her wings towards the moons. Her gaze swept over the silent onlookers, and she barked, "Bow!" Hastily, they obeyed. She glared at them all, then growled, "Grab the dragonets!" Her loyal subjects obeyed, and the rest were too frightened to stop them. One pale SandWing with freckles across her snout tried to intervene when they got near the golden dragonet, but her soldiers grabbed her, too.
Burn herself grabbed the MudWing dragonet. He struggled, but it was nothing against her strength. She held him easily, preparing to kill him, when a fiery spark of orange and red shot through the air. Ah, yes. Her "ally"'s so-called "champion".
Peril.
The dragon crashed into the sand, roaring with anger. "No! Not him!" Still, try as she might, Burn's soldiers were tough, and Burn herself was even tougher. No amount of burns would make her give up her prize - a dragonet of destiny.
After a long time, in which the tiny SandWing, the nervous NightWing, and the freckled SandWing were successfully contained and watching the fight, unable to do anything, the "champion" collapsed in the sand. "No!" she shrieked. "Not him! Take me instead, take me instead!"
"Fine," Burn growled, eyeing her with interest. "I'll take you instead."
She released the MudWing, who looked confused and then worried. He started to take a step toward the prisoners, but when they all frantically shook their heads "no", he spread his wings and took flight.
The firescales was hers. Seeing how the fiery dragon was eyeing the skies, she quickly threw a well aimed spear, and it pierced before melting. Peril screamed, her eyes wide. Then, she fainted.
Burn raised her eyes to the stars. Now that she was queen, no one would ever look to the stars ever again. They would look to her.
The fiery orange dragon was carefully placed.
She exited her tower, claws clicking on stone as her gaze swept over the guards. All of them were too fearful to challenge her.
Perfect.
Then she turned to the throne room, and saw the best yet - just as she had imagined, her sisters on display. Blaze's face, distorted in a scream of pure fear, how lovely. She slid over to Blister, a look of defiance in her glazed eyes. Burn touched Blister's face, delicately, before then she started to dig her claws into her.
She jumped away when she heard her brother's talonsteps. With a jerk she turned, and, peering through the door, she saw his scavenger latched onto his head. Burn had kept him alive... for now.
"What," Burn growled, eyeing the scavenger with distaste.
"Uhhh... ermmm..."
"Get out, lizard breath!" she yelled.
"But, ermm..."
"Oh, what is it?!" she growled, exasperated. She didn't need the stuttering cactus-brain to keep her there all day.
"Ah, someone... wants to see you," he told her. Then, when she glared at him, he quickly added, "Your majesty."
"Who?" she hissed.
Her brother flinched, and told her, "Some MudWing..."
Ah. Good. Still, even though the MudWings were her allies in the war, she just didn't trust them... After all, they had been somewhat coerced into it.
"Anyone recognizable?" She pressed, before muttering angrily under her breath.
"No," he replied honestly. "As far as I remember, I've never met him before."
"Fine," she hissed. "He better have a good excuse." She was planning to decide how she should attack the IceWings. Ooh, the thought of their icy blue blood on her talons! That would be postponed for this annoying dragon. She was honestly beginning to hope that he would give her an excuse to kill him. Annoying MudWing alliance.
OOO
"What do you want?" She growled. The stupid MudWing was back. Didn't he know that she was a queen, and could easily kill him? Not to mention that she was three times his size. "Do you want me to kill you, too?"
The MudWing's eyes were full of sorrow. She rolled her eyes, advancing on him. "You gonna answer?" Her breath smelled like blood from that camel leg she had eaten. Perfect and intimidating.
"You know, the prophecy is over," she hinted. Nothing. Are all MudWings this dumb?
Then he raised his tail, just a little bit.
And chaos broke loose.
The royal blue SeaWing, the dragonet of destiny, half blind, a scar running down her right eye, slashing at her.
Her old six-clawed general, back to haunt her.
An orange-red SkyWing, with rubies encrusted in her eyebrow, and half of her face horribly scarred.
A RainWing, pink scales shifting to red, happy face gone.
A NightWing with deadly disks, pressing one to her throat.
SandWings. IceWings. SkyWings. SeaWings. NightWings. RainWings. MudWings.
Specifically, that MudWing.
He stared at her some more, and as she struggled to fight off the many dragons, he suddenly spoke.
"You have killed many dragons," he told her. "Yet you haven't realized that each of those dragons have someone in the world who love them, and now. You. Are. Going. To. Pay."
With that, the attackers surged, crawling all over her, giving her burns and venom scars and frostbite scars. She cackled over the attackers as she fought them off, "I won't! You will." Still, despite her strong words, she struggled.
Finally, she grabbed the pinkish red RainWing by his snout and yelled, "If you don't stop this I will kill him!" Everyone froze, but then half of them were on her again, going for the kill. She snapped the RainWing's neck and yelled for the guards, but no one came.
"They're all terrified of you." The MudWing's brown eyes stared into hers, and she screeched an angry and painful scream. "You need to learn what true loyalty is." And then shining, silvery disks came flying at her, one by one, and all went dark.
