Prologue
The sky was setting into a dark and bloody scarlet as the sun began to set within the horizon beyond the mountains and out beyond far past the Kingdom of the Sea. One mountain in particular curled up into the sky like a curled talon that thought it was cradling one of the moons within its talons, curling in upon itself yet its claws stuck out jaggedly and threateningly.
The sounds of talons bounced off of the smooth stone walls, the echoes of hushed voices filling the air along side the rustling of twitching wings and swishing tails. The stone tunnel lead out into a large open room within the cave, cliffs and ledges reaching up on every side, torches hung from the walls, two on each side of a tunnel entryway.
Huddled closely together along the ledges were dragons, about a hundred of them, maybe more, all together like a colony of bats waiting for the suns time in the sky to end so they can claim the night sky and hunt down any insects they came across in flight. These dragons had broad figures, thick tails as well as well built scales that clung to their bodies like armour. Some had pearly white teardrop scales at the corners of their eyes and others had a tiny white dot upon their forehead. Some didn't have any special markings at all.
The NightWing's were gathered for something special, something they've been waiting for ever since it had been announced. Their Queen had informed the tribe that something special was to happen, something that would help their tribe flourish back to their full potential.
In the centre of the large and open room was a pair of thrones carved out of stone. They were dull and plain, but the tops of them curled up like upside down icicles.
In between the two thrones was a stone carved pedestal that only reached up to the arm rests. It widened out at the top, forming into a smooth bowl. The carvings made it look like roots made of stone were cradling it within their grasp. The bowl was filled with soft bedding made of silky fabrics and soft furs, lining the inside of it as though it was meant to hold something delicate.
The whispers and mutters quieted down as the tapping of talons started to echo within the large open room. Soon enough, a figure emerged from the lowest tunnel that was on the ground floor. Soon enough, a figure emerged from the dimly torch lit tunnel.
The dragon had dark, nearly black, tinted blue scales with sparkling ocean blue eyes. His horns were curled similar to that of a RainWing's, but they were thick like a NightWing's. The markings of SeaWing's that laced above and below his eyes, as well as running down along his underbelly. His wings were a dazzling green and blue with tiny star markings, the membrane matching that of his frills that were fanned out calmly behind his ears. The odd looking NightWing was adored in silver jewelry that's jewels were all different kinds of sapphires and lapis' that sparkled and flowed along side his eyes and bioluminescent scales.
One piece of jewelry that stuck out the most was the silver crown that wrapped around his horns, swirling upwards like waves that would belong to the ocean in the Kingdom of the Sea.
The NightWing made his way over to one of the thrones and took his place, his gaze scanning across the cave walls and meeting the glances of the other NightWing's who looked down upon him from above, keeping themselves quiet as their ears were perked, eagerly awaiting for any news on what could this possibly special thing could be.
"Wiseflight!" The strange NightWing called, his voice echoing loudly around the room. A slender NightWing quickly flew down from one of the ledges.
"Yes your majesty?"
This NightWing's scales were a dark shade of yellow, nearly brown. Her eyes were a dark ember, almost orange with tiny speckles of pale gold within them making her eyes look like pools of glowing fire. A pair of glasses were situated across her snout, reaching back with chains to wrap around her thick horns. Wiseflight walked with a limp, almost a hop, since her left hind leg was missing from the knee down in an ugly scar.
"Where is my wife? Shouldn't she be here by now?"
"She should be here any moment your majesty, she told me she has gone to go collect what will help bring our tribe back to its former glory."
The odd looking NightWing let out a hum that rumbled lightly within his throat. His bioluminescent scales flashing lightly for a few moments before he shook his wings, causing them to stop.
"The Queen is arriving!" A NightWig bellowed, their voice sounding like thunder with the way it echoed throughout the room and it's stone tunnels as he raced into the stone carved throne room. "The Queen is arriving!"
The NightWing's situated upon the ledges that wrapped around like a spiral along the tall stone walls each let out their own mutters and whispers, some sounding excited while others sounded nervous.
"What has she brought with her?"
"Will it truly help us?"
"What ever she has will make sure the rest of Pyrrhia know we're the true NightWing's!"
"Yeah! Not those horrid bleeding hearts that call themselves NightWing's."
A bundle of hushes spread throughout the large group of dragons, each of them quieting down to watch with curiosity as eventually, their Queen did arrive. Walking into the room with her crown resting atop of her head that was crafted to look like hungry flames that had been frozen in time from their greed driven burning hunger. Cradled in one of her arms was something small and dark, it was hard to identify, but it looked alive.
"Ah my darling!" The strange NightWing smiles as he spread his wings welcomingly to his Queen. "It's so wonderful for you to join us! And I'm assuming you have this wonderful thing you've been hinting at for the last little while?"
"Yes, I do, Charming" the Queen hummed as she made her way closer to the strange NightWing. "And she will help our tribe become glorious once more."
"She?" Charming blinked, a confused look swirling within his dark sparkling blue eyes. "Animosity?"
The NightWing, Animosity, held her arm out softly, pulling the small bundle of black away from where she had cradled it close to her chest. Resting it within the stone carved bowl lined in furs and silky fabrics.
Charming couldn't believe his eyes at was was before him. It was a dragonet, a hatchling. The baby NightWing looked newly hatched, less than a day old. She was small with tiny wings tucked closely against her sides. The soft spines along her back were long and would harden out within a few days, along with the rest of her scales that were soft and warm. The dragonets scales were a dark red colour, like Animosity's, but this dragonets were almost completely black. Her tail had a stripe running down along its length, soon overtaking it in colour entirely, making it a bloody pink colour, the same colour upon her four sets of talons and her snout, following the scales that run under her eyes on either side of her face before blending back into their natural black colour.
The little dragonet wiggled to get comfortable in her new position, moving and lifting up her heavy head, a loud chirpp! Escaping her jaws and echoing off of the stone walls and earring quick whispers and gasps from the NightWing's watching. The hatchling started to open one of her eyes, the task looking to be more struggle that it was worth, but she eventually got her eyes open and was blinking in confusion as she got used to being able to see.
Charming felt warmth fill within his chest, emotions crashing down on top of him like a tidal wave of joy. His wings fluttered and his bioluminescent scales glowed faintly as he moved it of his throne to position himself beside Animosity, the two gazing down upon the little dragonet that looked up at them, holding up her wobbling head.
Her eyes were beautiful.
The little dragonets eyes were a striking red, as scarlet as a ruby that sparkled and shimmered. He'd never seen a dragon with such eyes, and he couldn't help but feel the warmth of Pride flood throughout his body.
"Is she....?" He could hardly get the words out as he gazed down at the little scarlet eyed dragonet.
"Yes, she is." Animosity hummed, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips, watching as Charming reaches out and picked up the hatchling, cradling her close to his chest while she let out a happy, yet confused, chibret! "She's our daughter, your daughter."
Animosity and Charming turned their bodies to look out towards their tribe that watched eagerly and curiously in awe.
"We welcome the newest member of the TRUE NightWing tribe!"
The excited roars of dragons filled the air, bouncing off the walls in an endless echo, making them sound to be over a thousand voices roaring up into the setting nights air.
"Does she have a name yet?" Charming asked his queen as he continued to gaze down lovingly at their daughter. His daughter. He had a hard time fully processing that this was HIS daughter, his own precious little dragonet to treasure and adore.
"No, not yet. I wanted to wait till you met her before we gave her a name."
"Then...how about Princess Lydia."
"Lydia?"
"Yes, Lydia. A beautiful name for a beautiful dragonet."
Animosity couldn't stop the smile that spread across her face as Charming wrapped one of his wings around her, holding her close as the two dragons gaze down to their daughter, the new princess of the NightWing's. The dragonet that will help them take back what has been stolen from them, stolen from their tribe, the right.
"We have all heard of the prophecy that riddles the Night Kingdom in fear," Animosity spoke up, her voice loud as it overpowered the joyful roars of her tribe that started to clam down in order to hear her words. "The prophecy that gives us hope to take our rightful place back within our kingdom!"
Cheers and roars filled the air once more as Animosity and Charming spread out their wings, standing up with their daughter within their arms.
"The prophecy will come true! And our chosen dragon has come! Behold the true kingdom of night! The dragonet our prophecy speaks of!"
"Princess Lydia of the true NightWing's!"
