Chapter 12: Scavengers

"Hey, wake up."

Slowly opening his eyes, Tide picked himself up from the cold floor and slumped down. Recovering his senses, he looked around. It didn't take the smartest dragon in all of Pyrrhia to know he was in a cave, but a cave located where was Tides true question.

Before he knew it, Tide was face to face with bright blue eyes. "Ah!" Instinctively, Tide spun around and smacked the dragon with his tail.

"Ow! Hey!" The RainWing growled as she flashed red across her scales. She got up and sat down, giving Tide a look of anger and disgust.

"Oh, goodness! I'm so sorry!" Tide apologiezed quickly, trying not to anger her any more.

"It's fine." She spoke angrily as she flicked her tail. "What are you doing here anyways?" She relaxed and her scales went to a beautiful shade of blue with purple and hints of green.

"Oh, well I'm. . ." Tide tried recounting what had happened, the only thing he could remember was seeing that SandWing get pulled into the dark and taken from his sleep, he figured he must have been taken somewhere too.

"Well?" The RainWing tapped her talons on the rocks in partial annoyance.

"The thing is, I don't know, really."

"Oh sure." She rolled her eyes and got up. "If you're not going to tell me, I wont ask." She continued past Tide and went to the cave's entrance, staring out patiently.

Tide walked up to her side and stared out as well. He looked out to spot a dark green SeaWing herding three creatures into a cage. One had long brown fur on its' head, the other two had shorter fluffs but that were black.

"Whoa . . ." Tide watched them walk along, almost looking sad.

"Scavengers." The RainWing said. "You almost feel sorry for them, being locked up. Almost."

"Scavengers."  Tide echoed. "Well, why are they here? Why are they called that?"

"Pfft, never figured I'd have to tell a dragonet what a scavenger is. Always thought they knew. They seem to like the stories with them."

"Well I've never heard of them. I literally spent my life in the ocean." Tide pointed out.

"Of course you did. Well, scavengers are little beings that speak gibberish, if you couldn't figure that out. They hunt in packs," she noticed Tide stepping out of the cave to get a better look, "and can kill a dragon." She pointed out.

Tide stopped and turned to the RainWing. "Kill a dragon!?"

He turned back to see the long brown-haired scavenger looking at him. She stopped for a moment and they stared at each other. She looked as though she was observing the young SeaWing dragonet.

"Get a move on!" The SeaWing herding them ordered.

The scavenger barely took any notice in his command, she kept staring intently at Tide.

What is it doing? Its' going to be eaten if it doesn't listen!

The SeaWing shoved her with his talons and she fell forward. The other two started speaking in protest. "YIBBLE!" The taller one ordered. "Yibble yoble yoble." The other continued.

"Yibble!" The long-haired one ordered at the SeaWing when she got up.

The SeaWing growled and opened his mouth to show his gleaming sharp teeth. This didn't seem to scare the scavengers, since the tall on stepped forward.

"It's like he's challenging him!" Tide observed.

"Yeah," The RainWing examined her claws, "a challenge that's going to kill it."

"What do you mean?"  Tide turned to see her push down a blue color from her scales.

"I mean, Shore doesn't take kindly to disobedient dragons, what do you think he'll do to a disobedient scavenger?"

"But they didn't really do anything." Then Tide heard a roar and he turned to see blood on Shore's snout and the tall scavenger go flying into the shorter one. They toppled over onto the floor and the long-haired scavenger put her little paws over her mouth.

Shore stared down his snout at them angrily, he threw his talons out to grab them.

"No!" Tide instinctively ran and jumped to block the talons.

He opened his eyes to stare at two petrified scavengers.
