Chapter 7
Ruby's POV
Ruby couldn't believe her eyes, how was her daughter and mate here. The last time she saw them, she saw them as corpses; together, her mate; Peregrine had his wings wrapped around Crimson; her d-daughter. They had laid at the ruins of the burned camp three years earlier along with the corpses of her father-in-law; General Sparrow and her family in her mate's side. The bodies of the army were littered around the ground, some were ripped apart and torn to shreds while others had the signature markings of an icewing attack.
She remembered how Peregrine's face was clawed up and his throat was ripped from the left side. Crimson's skull was crushed from the top with tooth markings covering her head. Their wings were ripped until they were just ribbons.
She gently touched her daughter on the jaw and grasped slowly as she realised that Victory Strike was right. She knew in her heart of hearts that her daughter and mate were right in front of her. Ruby gasped and Crimson and Peregrine smiled slightly. They collided and hug each other deeply.
"How are you two alive," Ruby said.
"It is a long story, but-," Peregrine said before being interrupted by Crimson.
"Grandpa is the reason for why we are alive," Crimson said.
"Well, that is not far from the true, but that only counts for all the skywings that didn't have dragonets or eggs," Thunder-Claws said," Afterall, I was the one who let every dragon there live."
"You can say that again," said a voice that Ruby was all to familiar. She quickly raised her head to see Sparrow, Ore and Coal; Peregrine's family.
Ruby noticed that Sparrow had a limb to his stride, when she looked at his front left leg, she saw a metal casing that seemed to hold the leg together and allowed for movement. His wings had these patches of fibre that were delicately sown together with the membrane. His face had a new, large and ragged cut that had slashed through his right eye. There were some metal plates that seemed to held his ribs together as he breaths.
"So, what took you all so long," Thunder-Claws asked suspiciously, earning a swipe from Victory Strike.
"You know why Thunder-Claws, after all wasn't it you, who make it very hard for me to fly," Sparrow asked casually.
Thunder-Claws scowled, but kept her tongue to herself.
"What happened to you Sparrow,Sir," Ruby asked.
"My Queen, I have no right to be called sir, for I have left the Skywing for the safety of my family," Sparrow said.
"So, Ruby you had a dragonet and that dragonet and the family of you mate were force to join these dragons," Father asked confused.
"Yes, Father, yes,"Ruby said, rolling her eyes.
"Thunder-Claws can you tell the tale of what had happened on that fateful day," Victory Strike asked.
Before Thunder-Claws could have respond, Glory's Bodyguard said,"Why was my mother not brought into the Grim?"
"Well, the reason was because first of all, she had a reason and the ability to keep a secret and The Grim can handle a nightwing attack, but there are many more untrustworthy dragons that can't keep secrets in this instance and an army of skywings, mudwings and sandwings was much more of a concern to me," Victory Strike said calmly.
"Makes sense," Glory mumbled.
"Well, I guess that I will start," Thunder-Claws said, " It all began four years ago when I had led an ambush on a skywing camp. The spy that was in our ambush as sick so, he had to gather information from the outside, so we had to wait and see. When we had started the ambush at the dead of night. However, what we hadn't anticipated was the fact that the camp had received news of an Icewing army moving to their positions, so they were awake and getting ready for a strike. When we struck, some of us were held back by the readied troops and defences. However, we still got through while immobilising the skywings. When I met Sparrow, he was protecting the sick, wounded and young. We fought and fought. I broke his leg, ripped his wings and caved his ribs, while he broke my horns, bit my tail off and left me with this scar. When I had Sparrow pinned, he said,"
"Please let my soldiers live," Eagle said softly.
"I was so impressed by his bravery, skill and general concern for his soldiers and family that I let him live and allowed the skywings to live in The Grim, since we could not have them head back their kingdom," Thunder-Claws finished.
"What about the fake corpses that were placed around the destroyed camp," Ruby asked.
"Well, we just attacked the icewing army that was coming to the camp and destroyed the entire army. Then, we used animus magic to make some of the icewing corpses into some skywings," Thunder-Claws said.
"Wait, you were responsible for the disappearance of 7th division," Snowfall asked nervously.
"Yes," Thunder-Claws said.
"But, how did you do it. That was the strongest, most experience and greatest of icewing battalion that we had," Snowfall said in disbelief.
"Really, because it was a breeze. In fact, all we had to do was surround them at the dead of night and slaughter the dragons like usual," Thunder-Claws said pridefully.
"So, you covered up the disappearance of the entire garrison, so that no one can find and discover The Grim," Ruby asked piecing together a timeline of events that can explain what Thunder-Claws had said.
"Yes," Thunder-Claws stated calmly.
"Mummy, is that Grandpa Who got killed by Amber-Eye," Crimson asked with curiosity, pointing at Eagle.
"Yes, dear," Ruby said
"So, Uncle Victory Strike resurrected Grandpa Eagle," Crimson chirped.
"Yes..," Ruby said as her eyes widen, " Uncle?"
"Oh that, well Crimson and Fluffball are best friends and playmates and Crimson liked to call me Uncle Victory Strike, so I just let her call me that. After all, what is wrong with that name," Victory Strike said with a bit of humour in his voice.
"King Victory Strike," Glory's Bodyguard asked, " Can you resurrect my mother?"
