Chapter 30
Polar's POV
Polar groggily opened his eyes, so that he can get out of his polar bear rugs. Once he had touch down, he lit his bioluminescence tail and talons to see in the dim light of the cave and noticed a scroll attached to a piece of string, a dagger the size of his arm with a wicked curve to it and a curved piece of glass all attached to the cave wall by a large crimson-red something with hints of turquoise diamond that was deeply embedded into the rock.
Polar grunted as he ripped it out of the rock and felt its scaly texture as the realisation that it was a scale dawned onto him.
Polar took the scroll in his talons and studied it more closely. It was encased in a golden casing encrusted with opals. Some black opals spelled out a name "Turtle". With this Polar turned to the sleeping Seawing.
"Turtle, wake up," Polar yelled into the seawing's ear causing him to jump up in shock.
"Why did you do that," Turtle hissed sleepily at Polar before he notice the scroll he was carrying.
"I found it on the wall," Polar said while pointing to the wall with the hole made from the scale.
Turtle quickly opened the scroll and activated his bioluminescent scales which caused the scroll to glow and made Turtle drop the scroll in surprise. When Polar looked down, he was mesmerised by the turquoise-green that was being emitting by the scroll were forming words.
The scroll read, "
Dear Turtle,
I have made a puzzle for you and your sister to solve. If you and Anemone pass, then I will teach you two, but fail... Anyhow, you have to solve the riddles that I placed around the Academy. You can have two others per dragon to aid you. Once you collect all the riddles, you have to unmask the hidden animus and you will be victorious. Let the game begin!
Find the carver of stone that slithered into the caverns,
You may find it from the scales it leaves behind.
Its attack makes one unable to escape,
Beware the coils of this snake,
Red-Eyes glow in the dark countered by crimson-reds and ocean light.
Say its name to complete this task,
-The King of Grim(Victory Strike)"
"You want to solve a puzzle, Polar," Turtle asked Polar much to his delight, afterall, riddles are his favourite.
"Hell yeah," Polar chirped excited for the task ahead, "Let's go get Anemone and her teammates first."
Turtle nodded and went outside of the cave only to gasp, "I thing that I understands the scale part."
Polar rushed out only to see a trail of crimson-red scales with hints of turquoise that matched the scale he took.
"They look exactly like the one that held the scroll," Polar noted as he showed the scale he took to Turtle.
"So, the dragon that left these scales is the one that left the scroll, Turtle deducted, "trail is heading in the direction of Tamarin's and Anemone's caves."
"Then, lets go to Tamarin's cave," Polar said and he started to head to Turtle's sister's girlfriend's cave.
—————
On the way there, they bumped into Anemone and Tamarin whom were following the trail of scales to them, which implies that the dragon was trying to get the two groups to come together.
"Did you read the scroll," Anemone and Turtle asked each other at the same time.
"Yeah," Tamarin said, "There weren't any visible word but I could feel them."
"Did you try using your bioluminescent scales, Anemone," Polar asked.
"No,"Anemone said only to realise, " so the word are revealed by bioluminescent."
"Ocean light," Tamarin guessed.
"Yeah, so lets try blood," Turtle guessed, "since bioluminescent showed the words on the scroll."
"There is weird writing on the back of our scroll," Tamarin noted as Anemone passed her the scroll, "It was only impression but it was scrambled up."
Polar gave the dagger to Turtle while Tamarin opened the scroll and placed its back before turtle drawing some blood from his wrist using the dagger and wiped the bloodied dagger on the scroll. Anemone then spread the blood over the page as Turtle tried to heal his cut only to get nothing.
"Strange," Turtle said as Anemone gasped.
Polar stared at the scroll words appear and rearranged themselves into a sentence, "The dragon you seek will show himself as dawn rises at the entrance of the academy."
"Creepy," Polar broke the temporary silence as Anemone informed the blind rainwing and the group quickly made their way to the entrance of the academy to see the orange-red sun rise from the behinds the mountains only to be block by a figure that bursted out of the ground with two dragons on its back.
"Careful, Diamond Breaker, crazy snake," shrieked a wingless dragon that was the colour of a pine forest in winter with an elegant stinger that resembles a snake's fang on its tail with two large ebony fangs piercing through the upper lips and a large scar over an eye.
"Alright, scaredy Icewing," Diamond Breaker joked as he turned around to face Jade Academy's entrance and stared at Polar, Turtle, Tamarin and Anemone with his crimson red eyes that matched his scales in surprising detail. His scales were frighteningly similar to the scale that Polar was holding in his talons, they even matched in size, but the most puzzling thing about the dragon was that it had no limbs besides the wings.
"Are those the dragonets that King Victory Strike told us about," a dragon with large purple horns and triangular head with purple and dark-blues scattered across his body asked. He had hundreds of spines that ran down his back. He seemed to be quite old, almost a third of the size of Diamond Breaker, but much thinner, almost skeletal.
"Most likely," Diamond Breaker muttered as his wing tips gripped tho the rock and he slithered on.
"Do you guys think that this is the dragon that Victory Strike was talking about," Polar whispered to everyone's agreement, "Then, let's say his name all at once."
"DIAMOND BREAKER," Polar and his friends called out to the giant blood-red serpent causing to slither forwards and tower over the four dragonet, while his 'passengers' climbed down the snake.
"You four spoke my name, so what do you want," Diamond Breaker hissed.
Turtle showed him the scroll and Diamond Breaker used his tail to grasp the scroll and brought it up to his eyes, causing him to gasp, "So you two seawings are Victory Strike's new pupils."
"Yes," Anemone said, "so, are there anymore clues for us, sir Diamond Breaker."
"Well, Victory Strike told me to give you guys this," Diamond Breaker told them as he took a scroll out of his pouch and passed it to Anemone, "My words of advice is to know Victory Strike. He is cunning and will use everything in the books for victory, but he does go easy on dragonets."
"Quite easy," the wingless dragon commented.
"You have two more spaces for teammates and I suggest that you get Inkheart," the old purple dragoness said, "he is coming soon to show Victory Strike's support of the concept behind ghsi academy. He has lived with the cunning king and will make an excellent ally."
Polar was about to ask for a description of Inkheart but Diamond Breaker beat him to it.
"The dragonet is jet black with purple eyes, two glossy white scales between his eyes, three barded tails and wings that resemble a starry night," Diamond Breaker described, "He will help you four once this scroll is solved."
"Neat," Tamarin said with a small hint of sarcasm.
Diamond Breaker began to slither into the Academy as Turtle stopped him.
"Diamond Breaker, Sir. Where is King Victory Strike," Turtle asked the behemoth to his annoyance.
"The king has a bit of unfinished business, he will come later in the day," The wingless dragon said with its one dead looking eye staring blankly at Turtle.
"I suggest that you youngsters go to the 'great hall', we will begin our review of the school soon," the purple dragoness noted.
"What happened to your arm though," the wingless dragon asked pointing at Turtle's arm.
"Turtle, how is your arm even cut," Anemone shrieked in surprise, "Weren't your scale immune to harm?"
"They were until two days ago," Turtle explained, "I got shot at by a sleeping dart and it hit my scales."
"Let me heal that nasty wound," the purple dragoness said as her tail rubbed against the wound and she muttered some words and the word began to close up,
"Guess, that you only have two candidates left for the potential animus," she said sadly, "It would have been much more fun, but student welfare first, King's orders second."
Polar realised that this task was going to be much more easier , "they know all the conditions to this test can change it at a flick of a switch, but there are only two possible candidates in their group. However, The King may move some new pieces in soon."
"Now, lets wake everyone up," the wingless dragon as it walked into the school.
