Prologue
Hmmm, Glory thought. She was studying the smooth, obsidian portal in front of her. Was it a portal? Yes. But where it led to, not even Mastermind could figure out, and he was possibly the smartest dragon in the kingdom.
On one side of the portal, Pyrrhia. On the other? Hell, from what it looked like. The red, lava-filled landscape was burning hot, constantly on fire, and looked impossible to live in without Pyrrhian help, but it was so rich in minerals the Rainwing-Nightwing Queen thought that it would be a worthy endeavor.
"Queen Glory! I think I found something!" Jambu called from around the corner. Glory walked over with curiosity. "What do you think it is?"
In front of Jambu was a strange cylinder or pillar as tall as the portal. It was made out of some sort of metal that held up to everything the Rainwings and Nightwings could do. It even resisted the lava in the area, which was something. it did melt when the crimson trees around it burnt, though, so it could be turned into equipment, which was very useful.
"I want any of this stuff found secured in a nearby rain forest cave. We could use it to mine for other resources," Glory said in a commanding tone. "Keep an eye on the cave. I want it turned into a vault as soon as possible. Harvest the trees here once that's done."
"Yes, your majesty," the dragons around her said before darting in different directions to do their jobs.
"That won't be necessary." A dark red dragon suddenly stepped out from the shadows. "Who are you, and why are you in our part of the nether?" A squad of huge, armored dragons appeared behind him.
"I am Queen Glory of the rain forest. Who are you?"
"I ask again, why are you in our territory?" The dragons advanced.
"We had no idea there even was a territory. How would one survive without help?"
"We help each other. But if you don't answer my question, I won't be helping you."
"We want to start mining in this area. Do you mind?"
"No, but Zypher will." The dragons suddenly lunged at Glory and her exploration party, knocking them out and chaining them up. "Oh, I'm Netherrack by the way."
And with that, the world went black.
----<-->----
Glory woke up to a black, stone cell. Iron barred the entrance, and she could see a long line of these cells lining the walls. Great, Glory thought. And I thought I was done with prison three years ago.
"Oi, the warlord wants to see you, so on ya bloody feet." This new dragon was not only a lot more blackish then Netherrack, but bigger. A lot bigger. Netherrack was maybe a bit bigger than Burn or Kestrel, but this new dragon was the sheer, massive size of Morrowseer. And had the muscle. No, more. His body rippled and bulged with enough raw strength to make any dragon be scared.
"I said, on ya bloody feet!"
"I'm sorry, who are you?" Glory tried. This dragon was definitely mad now.
"GET UP!" He grabbed Glory by the collar and threw her against the bars opposite her cell. "IF YA WON'T COME THEN YA WON'T GET FED! NOW GO!"
Glory didn't hesitate. She followed the massive dragon down the hall and across a vast orange lake. amazingly, these dragons lived in a fortress of some sort that jutted out of the lake made of some sort of hard, insulated brick. dragons of all kinds of colors, all the same massive Morrowseer-like size and strength, swarmed the fortress.
At the end, after dodging a series of lava falls, they came to a section of the fortress that was taller then the rest. Like a palace. Landing on a balcony, the soldier didn't hesitate to walk inside. Dragons parted for him and Glory, leading to what seemed like massive, gold-lined doors. Inside those doors was a throne room - not as big as some others, but still big. on the throne was a white dragon in full, gold-rich armor, and two guards were at the doors.
"Soul, you may go," the dragon on the throne said, and Soul left. "Queen Glory of the rain forest, eh? This isn't the rain forest, so why are you here? Mining? That's what they all say. So let me burn it into your head: you don't mine in our territory." He sat back in his throne. "You see, we are Netherwings. Some come together to form communities, while others live alone. we, however, are running out of space. And food.
"why, we're surrounded by others. Other empires. But warped forests are closed, and Warpwings would slaughter us. But other than that there are people who we can take. Why battle a foe that matches our strength when we can invade a tribe of tiny, unsuspecting dragons instead? Your rain forest will be ours. And with it, all of the land you love. "
Glory thought about Nightcolor, about Deathbringer, about all the Rainwings and Nightwings that lived in the rain forest. She couldn't stop the tear that feel down her snout as she looked down.
"You are not in power here, Rainwing. Don't act like it."

A/N: Nightcolor was not my idea. I borrowed it from another bookwriter, GodzillaDaGamer.
