CHAPTER THREE

Whitedust immediately second-guessed herself.

If Dad is an animus, then shouldn't I have heard him think about it the small time I had read his mind!?

No... Whitedust told herself. He must have made the scroll... What if he is Scroll? Whitedust thought to herself.

She looked around and saw that she and her parents were just silently standing there. Awkwardly.

"Well." Whitedust said, breaking the silence. "I need to get to bed, it's late."

Harp looked confused and... Offended? "Yes." She spoke. "Indeed, Dear."

Whitedust backed up towards her bed, still watching her parents. Then she lay on her bed, with her face in pure confusion and a hint of terror.

"Goodnight, my little Snow." Oryx whispered to her. He came over and rested his chin on her head for a second. Then he lifted his head slowly and followed Harp out of the room.

"Night." Whitedust said to them, (though, she said it to them when they were out of earshot. So she guessed she was jute talking to herself.)

Whitedust closed her eyes, and tried not to dream about that day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, Whitedust jumped out of bed immediately. She ran to the doorway, about to go downstairs...
But then...
Then she stopped.
Scroll! She thought. I need to talk to him! Whitedust looked around, and lept onto the ground, revealing that the scroll still lay under the bed, untouched.
Don't let it lose your sight... Scroll's words flashed inside of Whitedust's head. She reached her talons out to grab the scroll, but as soon as her claws touch the pouch... It disappeared.
It wasn't the only thing that disappeared though. Her entire bed did. Whitedust lept back with a yelp of alarm. Her entire house was falling apart.
The Sandy bricks crashed into a million pieces, colliding with each other, shattering wildly around the room. Hitting Whitedust in the head as if they are all aiming for her eyes.
Whitedust shielded herself with her wings, then she flew out of the open roof.
Whitedust couldn't believe what she was seeing.
Flying over her house, she saw almost half of the Sand Kingdom.
It was all falling down.
More houses collapsed and crashed. She saw tiny dragons escaping their shelters and flying away. Most dragons couldn't even leave the sand kingdom. A terrible sandstorm was causing all of this. Dragons. Dying.
Below, Whitedust saw the SandWing queen, Thorn, get crushed by a boulder. Her wings and head were the only parts uncrushed. She looked dead.
Whitedust choked back tears. No. She flew down to the SandWing Queen's corpse.
"No, no, no..." She said placing one talon on Thorn's forehead.
Thorn's dying body looked up at her. She looked disastrous. Blood ran from her left ear. (Which was only about half an ear now) She said only two words to Whitedust:
"Take it." She choked.
Whitedust looked down at the Eye of Onyx. Is it my destiny to become the SandWing queen? But I'm not royal! What if it kills me like it did Blister?
Thorn's soul was fading away. She looked at Whitedust hopefully. "Your Majesty," Whitedust said, placing her talon on the Eye of Onyx, holding back her tears. "You have my word."
The queen smiled a sad smile. She slowly dropped her head and faded away from her body.
Whitedust let her tears flow. She kept the Eye of Onyx in her talons. No way was she wearing that right now at this moment. She saw dragons running and screaming, flying and fleeing.
"Make it stop!" Whitedust cried, tears fogging up in her eyes.
Then she turned, and saw in the distance her parents. They were right outside of her house, just on the doorstep. Dead.
Whitedust fought the sandstorm, rushing over to her parents' corpses. "No!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. She held her father's head in her arms, and lay next to her dead mother. This was it. Her life now.
"No..." She choked. Her tears spilling like waterfalls. She buried her head in her father's chest. "No... Daddy don't die..." She curled up with her mother. "Mommy, come back..."
Her words hiccuped through her sobs. "I love you too much. You can't leave me... Not yet. Not now... Not ever..." she nestled in between both of her parents' bodies.
After a while of the sandstorm, it started to slow down. Whitedust just lay there.
Her parents... Queen Thorn... All the other countless SandWings... They all died from that deadly storm. Whitedust was the only dragon in the sand kingdom.
She held the Eye of Onyx up to the light. Although, it wasn't really light anymore because the sky darkened with clouds.
Weird... Whitedust couldn't ever imagine a time in the desert when dark stormy gray clouds came.
And then it started raining.
Raining. In the desert!
Whitedust saw a dragon in the distance. It was walking, and if Whitedust didn't know any better, she thought that the dragon was walking straight towards her.
Whitedust got up fast, alarmed. She dropped the Eye of Onyx over her head in terror. But she didn't shatter into a million pieces like Blister. She stepped over her parents. And walked a few steps away from them.
Whitedust turned around, and the figure was standing practically two feet away from her. Patiently.
The dragon had a very dark blue underside of its wings, and its scale color was almost black. and the rest Whitedust could see, was black. The dragon had a black cloak draped over its body. Its eyes were blood red.
"Um," Whitedust said uncomfortably. She wrapped her tail around her front talons and folded her wings back.
The dragon stood up tall, arching his back and shoulders. (Looking twice as taller in Whitedust's opinion) Whitedust guessed it was a male, because of it's deep voice:
"What are you doing here?" His hulking voice scoffed.
"What are you doing here?" Whitedust snapped back.
There was a short time of silence as if the hooded figure was struggling for words, as if she actually got him thinking.
He finally spoke. "Looks to me, hybrid... That you are most half IceWing... So isn't your home in the Ice Kingdom?"
Whitedust tried to reach his mind, but nothing was coming out of it. Why were her powers even there, if she couldn't even USE THEM?
"No." Whitedust stood up tall. "This is my home. Looks to me that you are either a RainWing, or a NightWing." Whitedust glanced over at his wings and tail. "So go back to the rainforest where you belong."
The hooded figure cocked his head. He stifled an evil laugh. "You don't get it, do you?" He asked.
Get what?! Whitedust asked herself.
He seemed to have read her confused face, because he responded, "Hrmph. You don't know..."
"What's going on?" Whitedust demanded. Then, she lost it. "Why is this happening huh? Did you cause it? Did you plan to get... To get this?" She thrust the Eye of Onyx in his face, then let go and let it clatter on her chest. "You just waltz in here and act like you own the place when your not even half SandWing?
"You think that you can just come into my kingdom and slaughter almost my entire tribe?" She bellowed in his face. "My citizens are dead. My parents are dead. Everyone is dead, and its your fault! Do you think I am unable to handle whatever your hiding? I deserve to know!"
"All you need to know, Whitedust," He said calmly, poking her nose with his claw. "Is that none of this... Ever happened..."
"Wha-" Whitedust started, but then, the dragon in front of her, held out his front talon, and it evaporated into sand. Within an instant, he became apart of the sand.
Whitedust looked around in shock. And without warning, a fiery jolt of pain rose up through her chest. Spiraling all in her body. Harshly yanking her off the ground. She was pulled into the sky, upsidedown.
The Eye of Onyx fell off her chest. She desperately tried reaching for it as it fell, but she couldn't catch it in time. It his the sand with a clank.
The force pulling her in the air threw her around, and above her house. Something shredded Whitedust's wings and she howled in pain. The force threw her on the hard, cracked stone, the ruins of her house. She screamed the whole way down. And with a loud crack. Her back broke.
Whitedust's eyes opened.
She sat up on her bedroom floor.
It was all a dream. But the real question was:
Was it real?
