Welcome back!  

Moon stood in front of the double doors of Pyrrhia high, wishing with her whole heart that there was a way she could skip the first day of school. And every other day of school. 

Ever since she and her mom had moved from Florida, Moon had wanted nothing more than to go back. Sure, she didn't have any real friends there, but for her whole life, Moon had felt in control, like everything would stay the same; and when her mother had suddenly told her they had to go, she lost that control, falling into a pit of uncertainty.

Well, whether I like it or not, I have to stay here. I can't go back after what happened...Moon thought glumly.

Pulling the doors open, she stepped into the main hall. The school was swarming with students, getting their schedules, opening lockers, or going into classrooms. After putting all her things into her locker and reading the schedule, she finally walked into her homeroom-Mrs. Kestrel's class.

As Moon later found out, Kestrel was the gym coach, but every morning she had to meet with her group of students for homeroom- which she wasn't at all happy about. and neither were the students. Kestrel's classroom was almost completely full, and everyone was chatting with each other. Frankly, it was chaotic, until the teacher appeared in the doorway, and all students shut their mouths immediately. 

Kestrel was a tall woman with her red hair styled into a pixie cut and an orange jump suit that reminded Moon of Vector a little too much, and the moment that she stepped into the room, she began scolding a student in the back. "Sepia, WHAT do you have in your mouth!?! FOOD IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN MY CLASSROOM! screamed Kestrel. "since you decided to have your snack in MY CLASS, you now have LUNCH DETENTION!" 

Just then the bell rang. 

Kestrel gave out a detention before the first day had even begun thought Moon, finding it both terrifying and a little funny at the same time

"Our lovely school district" began Kestrel "requires me to have you all introduce yourselves because we have some new students this year, but I honestly don't care about any of your names, so instead I will go get a coffee. You may speak to each other, but if I hear ONE scream from over in the break room, you will regret having vocal cords!!!"saying this, the teacher skulked out and closed the door.

Once she was gone, all the students resumed their conversations, and Moon just sat in the middle of it all, wishing there was something to read. Just then, a voice from next to her asked "Hey, are you new here?" she turned her head to see a petite girl with long caramel-toned hair and green eyes smiling at her eagerly. The girl had on a tie dye crop top, a pink skirt, and yellow converse. Overall, Moon thought she looked friendly enough. Maybe they could be friends?

"Yeah, my name is Moon" she said

"I'm Kinkajou, and they are Turtle, Qibli, and Winter!"

Moon looked behind Kinkajou and saw three boys looking at her with a range of different emotions:  curious, thoughtful, and...threatening?

But before any of them could react, Kestrel reentered the scene, and all conversations were quickly abandoned.
