Chapter 25
Sand that was sticky with blood crumped toward Iceberg's talons. The sun beat down, bright and hot in her eyes.
Iceberg sighed. She didn't care if she was killed. All she cared about was that Sunset had her mother free.
Sunset stopped, and it was like every emotion in the world hit her face at the same time. "I should have guessed," she said, furious and low, so only Iceberg could hear. "The only dragon here who can touch me. No wonder she wanted me stay away from you."
Iceberg took a step forward. "Kill me." She muttered. "I want your mother to be free and my friends to be safe." Sunset slid toward Iceberg, she hesitated, then put on a burst of energy of speed and chased after her. She then got body-slammed by Iceberg to the ground.
The crowd roared with surprise and delight.
Iceberg covered her face with wings, instinctively clawing with her back feet. It was an instinct she didn't have control over.
Slowly, Sunset rolled to her feet and paced toward her. This time, she stopped a short distance away.
"I'm sorry." She said plaintively. "I know you're mad. I made a mistake. I just- I thought you were trying to get away from me."
"I'm not mad." Iceberg said.
"I don't want to kill you." She said, clawing in frustration.
"I don't want you to kill me either, but if it means your mother is safe..." Iceberg said.
"I had a whole plan," she said. "A plan where I saved you after Ash, and you liked me best of all."
Iceberg looked at her talons. "Just do it. Help free my friends when I'm gone."
Sunset snarled. "I'm your friend! You don't need them! The others can have any dragon! I only want you!"
Iceberg gulped. "Sunset... of course you're my friend. But they're my friends too."
Sunset leaped at her head. Iceberg grabbed a talonfull of sand and threw it at Sunset's eyes. She shrieked and blundered sideways in the air.
Iceberg went forward and smashed into Sunset, pinning her.
"It doesn't have to be like this." Iceberg said. "Why don't you just go, free your mother yourself with your burning touch and fly away with her."
Sunset hissed. "It does. I have to. It's how the world works, dragons kill dragons all the time for no reason, it's how the world was made. Every dragon is born like that."
"Not all of them!" Iceberg looked up at the podiums. "Some of them are nice and caring," She turned back to Sunset. "But some of them are just bloody thirsty. Sunset, is that the dragon you want to be?"
Sunset hesitated.
The closest dragons in the audience were leaning in, listening intently. Queen Comet wasn't among them. "Hurry up and do it, then!" She called from her balcony. "You have her at your mercy. Use your venom! That was terrifying, and I didn't even get to see it the first time!"
Iceberg and Sunset stared at each other.
Sunset has a confused expression. "But if the venom didn't come from her, then where-!"
Suddenly, on a left side, a green RainWing's scales appeared into view. But the Dragonets knew who that was.... The Queen Of The RainWings... Amazon.
She reared up. Her mouth wide open. She hissed, a jet of black liquid shot out of her two longest fangs.
Iceberg watched in shock, getting off of Sunset.
Battlebringer's eyes grew wide with shock and surprise.
Prince Storm shoved his mother in front of him like a shield. Then he shot into the sky. Amazon's venom hit Comet on the side of her face. The SkyWing Queen began to scream.
Queen Amazon looked at the Dragonets and fled into the sky.
Queen Comet was screaming and running into the SkyWing castle.
All the guards on the balcony had all scattered to find Prince Storm.
And the audience had zoomed out of the area, as fast as they could, flying away in panic.
Foeseer blinked. "What just happened?"
