Chapter Twenty-Six

The reason this chapter is late is because of one simple word ✨procrastination✨ (also school and mental struggles but anyway- onto the chapter)

Trigger warning: blood, violence

There they were.

On Olympus.

Waiting.

Waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

It wouldn't be long now.

All they had to do was wait.

Wait as the seconds ticked by.

Wait as the gods on Olympus relaxed.

Wait until the cover of darkness came, unexpected on the sunny day.

The eclipse.

They would strike as soon as the moon covered the midday sun.

A perfect plan that not even Athena would dare to make. It was risky and unexpected and entirely foolish, which was exactly why it was perfect.

They would never see it coming.

Triton had trouble understanding the many layers of the plan and he had heard it from the source.

So there they were.

They had flashed in through Poseidon, Artemis, Apollo and Hermes' temples. Each temple held a team.

The Poseidon temple was first, once Artemis' moon chariot covered the sun and the world was cast into darkness they would strike.

The shadows stretched, slinking across the ground.

Triton looked to the side to Kymopoleia, who nodded at him. Triton peaked his head around the corner before raising one hand and gesturing for the rest of the gods to move out of the temple.

They stepped out as the sunlight faded away, treading carefully to the centre of Olympus.

Triton looked around. The coast was clear.

He spun back to the group and motioned for them to spread out.

It was simple, cause a distraction. Cause chaos. Luckly thats exactly what his group was perfect for. Him, Kym, Hermes, Eris and Hecate.

Hecate stomped her foot and pushed one hand out towards a street. Her lights flew out in a flurry of purple, changing the colour of everything they touched. Her eyes glowed the same light. Her veins glowed with power as she sent a new wave of lights down a different street. After that street had been changed, she faced the crossroads where they had spread out and drew a finger in a circle that was mirrored on the ground. The circle faded from luminous blue once it was completed and the Magic goddess went to work on the next street.

Hermes was darting all over the place, placing traps everywhere, sometimes pausing to consider what way the gods on Olympus would be coming. The wings upon his shoes fluttering a million miles a second, mirroring his hair that was being pushed around by wind that affected no-one else. Occasionally the two snake tattoos on his arms would move around, hissing directions that the gods would come from.

Eris was helping Hermes but hers was a lot more discrete, a rock on the road out of place. A net of flowers and wheat that would fall once a tripwire was pulled. Thin strings, tied across the street that would break as soon as they were touched. Small little things. At points she would pause and consider, seeing the possibilities of the future with onyx eyes.

Once they were all done and satisfied that they would be able to piss off the gods enough to get their attention they nodded to Kym and Triton.

Kym gave him a mocking smile, "See who can get the biggest storm?"

"First one to get a god wins?" Triton said mirroring her expression, holding his forearm up to eye-level.

Kym bumped her forearm against his, "You got yourself a deal."

They closed their eyes at the same time and opened them glowing. A quick breeze formed around them, whipping their clothes and hair about.

Eris whistled through her teeth before the wind got louder, faster, rougher. Beating them around enough that Hermes had to land to avoid becoming one with the traps. Hecate's lights formed a quick shield around them as the wind grew, dragging in the clouds.

Triton and Kym kept their forearms touching, combining their power, both standing in the storm, still and statue-like. Only their hair and clothes moved, but they never once moved an inch.

Green lightning sparked from their skin, arching between their closed fists. Kymopoleia opened her hand and it flew into the brightening sky before arching out and coating Olympus in darkness once again. The only light came from the green flashed as they branched across the sky illuminating the clouds, casting Olympus into a hauntingly green glow. Another blast of light went up from Kymopoleia's hand, twisting and turning, shaping into a gigantic sea serpent formed from the clouds. It roared, shaking the ground before diving down destroying a shrine to Hera.

The first signal, the second group would move now that the distraction has begun.

This was only the beginning.

The wind howled and the ground began to shake as Triton began to open his fist. Unlike Kymopoleia, his palm faced the ground that had just begun to crack. The cracks spread out and soon all of Olympus as far as they could see was covered in a spiderweb of damage. Once his palm fully faced the ground, it began to split apart. The very fabrics of Olympus' magic preventing the debris from falling to the mortals below, but since some slabs and stones were completely unconnected from the rest they began to float above and below the rest.

Triton grinned as Kym's sea serpent roared.

Signal 2 up and running. Time for the third group to go.

The siblings turned their hands so that their palms were almost touching, before slamming them together. Green light lashed out in a Sea scented explosion, while the ground tremored, rippling up and down. More buildings fell.

A bolt of lightning raced towards them but another wave went out from their clasped hands, tossing it aside destroying a monument to Aphrodite.

The wind around them sped up as they stepped apart before splitting off into multiple tornados that terrorised the temples that still stood.

Kymopoleia laughed as the serpent roared again. Triton couldn't help but laugh too.

The power. It didn't just show in the storm, the storm hummed with the power. With the power of two powerful Sea gods. The power ran through their veins, lighting them up. It would be so easy to get drunk on the feeling, never letting go, always upping the power until it wore him down.

Another lightning bolt attempted to break through but was eaten by the serpent which now had electricity coursing around it as it thrashed around.

Another wave of power went out and the two siblings stepped away from each other before it became too much. They didn't need anymore, the third signal had been given.

Power may be addicting but it can still tear you to shreds.

Both of them still glowed as the other three gods came to stand by them.

"That was badass," Hecate whispered to Kym.

Kym didn't reply but instead gestured for everyone to gather in a circle, facing out towards Olympus.

Wordlessly they all followed her instructions apart of Triton who kneeled down and pressed his hand flat against the ground.

"What have we got?" Kym asked.

Triton stood up into the circle, "7 from the pink street and 4 going to the second group."

"Good, now lets-"

Just then an explosion broke the ground even further, casting an orange glow across the city.

Kym hummed, "Good timing, now lets wait for them, then give em a show."

They stood in silence, their glowing eyes and veins being the only light. Orange, green, purple and glittering black lights danced around them as they waited.

Waited.

And waited.

The first straggler managed to get through but fell into Hermes' trap and was flung backwards in a small net.

Three more gods broke through, one tripped on the brick that Eris had moved while the other two went on. Another fell stepped on a crack in the ground and their leg fell through.

The last one was encased in ice as soon as they stepped foot into Hecate's circle. The one that had tripped rushed forward only to be picked up by Kymopoleia's serpent and thrown upwards past the clouds.

The other one had managed to get their legs free and walked towards them hesitantly, stopping only before the edge of the circle which glowed faintly from use.

Triton recognised her.

Athena.

He scowled and went to move forward but Hermes held his arm, shaking his head.

Athena started walking around the circle, careful to stay outside the line. "Why are you even doing this?"

Triton glared at her, he knew that Kymopoleia would most likely be doing the same.

"I think you know why," Hermes answered, still holding Tritons arm tightly.

Athena laughed, "And do you really think that would work? You think you can fight us and force us to give you equality? To take you out of banishment? You want to end your suffering with suffering?"

Triton spotted a shadow move behind the goddess.

"Who said its suffering?" Hermes said. "How is it any different from different gods having different powers? It's not and you know it."

"What about him or any of them trying to kill me?" Athena spat, standing still, shaking with rage.

Hermes had to put his other hand on Tritons other arm even though he looked ready to go after her himself. "Can you blame them? I'd do the same thing."

The shadows got darker, not fading away when the lightning flashed.

"Traitor," she hissed.

"I prefer the term 'incredibly hansome'," Hermes said with a grin.

Triton watched the buildings darken out of the corner of his eye. Making sure not to make it obvious, but Hermes had all of the goddess' attention.

Athena balled her hands into fists, "You are so annoying."

She stepped forward and immediately fell backwards. Watching a mold rise from the ground, bubbling. It formed a big, round, hairy body and eight legs. The spider moved towards her as she scrambled back.

Athena disappeared and the spider scuttled around the circle before falling down, collapsing into blue dust. The Olympian goddess stood behind it, holding her spear and shield.

The air got colder.

She laughed again, manically, leveling her spear at them. "Was that the best you can do?"

The shadows darted up, forming the word 'NO'.

Athena slashed through it with her spear. "You'll have to try harder than tha-"

She flew backwards into a pillar hard enough to crack it further.

What she was hit by moved too fast to be seen.

Triton looked to Hermes and saw that the god had a smirk on his face. When he saw Tritons face he shook his head.

Athena tried to throw a punch but she was thrown forward and flipped around, still by an invisible force. She tried to attack again and again but each time whoever or whatever it was knocked her aside. She tried to roundhouse kick it but her leg crumbled from underneath her. When her hand came away it was covered in ichor.

She sliced the air with her spear when she stood back up but she fell backwards onto the ground. Hitting it hard.

But she got up again and fought to no avail.

Again. She raised her sheild to try block a hit that she couldn't see but it was ripped off her arm and she grit her teeth.

And again.

And again.

Athena threw her spear after being knocked down once more.

It stopped it mid-air.

The air rippled and Triton watched as the shadows rose up and formed a twirling cloak with the hood up. The hood was long enough to completely cover the face, but two pure white circles could be seen past the dark material.

It stepped forward and threw Athena's spear back at her, impaling her through the shoulder, pining her to the ground.

It didn't turn when three more gods came charging into the crossroads.

Eris went to deal with them. She said something quietly to one of them before offering a flower. A white withering rose. Her next words were heard clearly by everyone, "Oh very well then, I hope you know that they all lied," and she dropped the rose, triggering the tripwire she had set. More withered flowers fell around the trio with wheat getting stuck in their hair. They began to fight one another. Throwing punches and slashing with swords.

Athena looked up at the being, "Who-who are you?"

The being lifted a skeletal hand and pulled back the hood, revealing a skull floating in the air, uncconecting to the spine that could be seen from over the cloak. Those piercing white eyes in the middle of the eye socket.

"Take a guess," a familar voice said.

"Death," Athena said, her voice shakey.

"Would you look at that? You've heard of me," Thanatos said tilting his head to the side as his scythe formed in his hand by his side.

Athena fainted.

Thanatos melted into the shadows and appeared beside them, "Hope I didn't miss much."

"You didn't," Eris said, watching the three gods batter each other eagerly.

"Good, so the fun begins?"

"Indeed," Kymopoleia said, a new explosion lighting up her face.

Triton eyed the explosion as it rose into the sky, a phoenix flying across Olympus. Flames followed in its wake.

He smiled, "Indeed it shall."
