Chapter Twenty-Seven

Once again, I'm very sorry that this took so long. School sucks and I'm going through the first trackings right now :/

Trigger warning: blood, violence

Thanatos didn't like the plan that much. It was confusing, had many layers and it spread their numbers thin.

But he had to admit it was good.

But still, he didn't like it, it was quite forward.

Thanatos was not forward, he preferred to wait until-

Lightning darted up and struck the sky, instantly darkening it and blocking Olympus from the outside world. The clouds swirled and formed a giant serpent that dove down towards the ground and disappeared before breaking through the ground in front of him.

Thanatos jumped back, his form flickered.

Eros looked at him and raised an eyebrow as he tried to stay in one form. "You realise that after the next one, we're next?"

"Shut up," Thanatos said while his form switched back to skeletal again.

"Nope, this is amusing to watch." Eros leaned against a pillar of Artemis' temple, wearing a huge grin.

Thanatos scowled, changing back to his humanoid form momentarily.

Nemesis looked over, "Boys stop fighting."

The two gods froze and stared at her. Standing side by side, they were complete opposites. Eros' bright white wavy hair a stark contrast to Thanatos' dark curls.

Thanatos faintly wondered whether he should stab his sister, or at least attempt to. When she turned around a dagger formed in his hand, he moved to aim.

No one will ever know, he thought to himself. No one has to know.

Nemesis was saved from being impaled by the ground beneath their feet. It began to shake, slowly at first. Within seconds the ground began to crack, falling apart.

Thanatos and Eros began to fly slightly above the ground. Escaping the ground but being bullied by the wind.

The robes that the two gods had wore melted away as they flew out of the temple before they ran the risk of being crushed under it. Nemesis and Moros came out after them before flying off together in the direction of where the second group would be.

Thanatos and Eros flew off to look for stray gods to redirect into a diversion.

Like the other two groups, theirs was also a distraction. They had to direct gods towards the traps set and where the groups were lying in wait.

Thanatos spotted a flash of blue lightning arching towards the sky and he grinned. "I call Zeus!" he yelled over to Eros before diving towards the King of the Gods as green lightning flashed behind him.

Eros muttered something about 'gramatic ducking grass mole death lods'.

Thanatos landed silently behind the god. Not having been seen, he wanted to act quickly and get the Tartarus out of their.

With minimal injuries preferably.

Hopefully.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Thanatos summoned his scythe and double checked that he was in his skeletal form before leaning on the scythe. Acting bored (he could actually do it quite well, it also helped that he rarely cared about anything).

"Hey, you're Zeus right? Not as impressive as I thought you would be," Thanatos drawled.

He immediately had to duck to avoid his clothes burning off.

He grinned at the smoking god in front of him, as well as he could grin being a skeleton. "Well that wasn't very nice."

Once again, Thanatos had to dodge the oncoming lightning. He vanished into the shadows and onto the rooftop of the neighboring temple.

"Oh wow you missed," he called over.

Zeus attempted to strike him again but Thanatos appeared out of the shadows of another temple.

"You missed again!" he laughed as he disappeared into the darkness yet again.

Appearing behind Zeus, he slung an arm around the gods' shoulder. Zeus froze under his touch.

"Thats just embarrassing you should really work on your aim," he whispered in his ear.

"SHUT UP!" Zeus thundered. Lightning lashed out from his hands.

With a single wing flap, Thanatos was propelled backwards and landed on his feet. This time further from the thunder god.

"Who are you?" Zeus hissed. Lightning cackled around him.

Thanatos' form flickered for a split second. "If you catch me-" he grinned at the god. "I'll tell you."

Flapping his wings once again, Thanatos jumped off the side of the building.

He glided through the storm. Ducking and twisting around the debris. Debris that floated in the air.

Olympus was crumbling.

And Zeus knew it.

The god of Lightning furiously flew after him. Blasting away the chunks of the debris that got in his way.

Violent, brash and stubborn. And so very predictable.

Thanatos laughed, slowing slightly in his flight. Allowing the King of the gods to catch up with him.

Zeus grabbed his legs. "Caught you," he growled, pulling him down. He threw Thanatos towards the rooftop of the closest temple.

Vanishing into the shadows the storm provided, Thanatos reappeared behind Zeus.

"Don't tell me you actually thought that would work?" Thanatos teased.

Lightning struck the air where Zeus had been a moment before.

Thanatos glanced around before beginning to fly in the direction he was heading before.

Hands grabbed his wings and he fell. Dropping out of the sky.

The ground came hard and fast.

It hurt.

A heavy weight was on top of him. Pressing down on his arms.

He couldn't move his wings nor arms.

It hurt.

It hurt a lot.

The chilled feeling he got when he was in skeletal form slipped away.

Pain rippled through the muscles in his back and arms.

It hurt.

Thanatos groaned as a hand pressed down on his throat.

Pain burst from his shoulder. Quickly travelling down his arm, down to his fingers.

He winced and a small sound escaped him.

It hurt.

Burning flesh, fire, smoke. Thats what he could smell.

It hurt.

Something trickled down his arm.

Thanatos groaned again and opened his eyes.

He wished he didn't.

Zeus leaned over him. Legs straddling his torso, pinning his arms to the ground. One hand heavy on his neck, the other pressing down on the wound on his shoulder. The King of the gods was sneering down at him.

Thanatos felt like he had been struck by lightning, which he probably had considering everywhere burned.

The god on top of him pressed down on him with more force, "Who are you?"

Thanatos blinked at him.

"WHO ARE YOU?"

Thanatos rolled his eyes as the thunder boomed in time with the gods' words.

"ANSWER ME! YOU DARE DISRESPECT THE KING OF GODS?!"

Thanatos gave him a grin, hiding his emotions behind a makeshift mask, "Oh the King of gods... Right of course I'll tell him my name. Can you point me in his direction?"

Zeus roared and pulled his arm back.

Green lightning darted down.

It struck Zeus.

But not a dark haired god of death.

When the light had blinded Zeus' vision, Thanatos used that split second to flip them over and flew out of the lightning's range.

He pressed a hand to his shoulder and hissed as the healing kicked in.

Not even a second later he had shifted back into his skeletal form.

"Whats wrong? A little lightning get in your eye?" Thanatos taunted, leaning against a semi destroyed shrine, one foot against it.

Zeus snarled and lunged at him.

Thanatos fell into the shadows and stood behind the god. "If you haven't realised yet, you might have to do a little better than that."

The next few minutes were a blur. Thanatos teased Zeus and Zeus tried to attack him. Thanatos didn't let him land a single hit, dodging in and around temples and lightning.

Thanatos vanished to the shadows once again. Standing close to the trap that he was leading Zeus too. Yet he didn't face behind him, trusting that they would stay hidden.

Lightning struck the ground. Only a few yards away from him. Zeus stood there when the light finally faded.

"You are a lot more trouble than you are worth," he huffed.

"I could say the same about you," Thanatos said, not faltering under the gods' glare.

"You will be throughly punished once this pathetic rebellion is destroyed."

Thanatos stared at the god, "What makes you think that I will give up? That any of us will give up?"

Zeus leveled his masterbolt at Thanatos' chest, "You cannot possibly think that you are a match for Olympus, that you are a match for me."

"I could be Zeus, the question isn't whether I am a match for you. The question is whether you are a match for me."

Zeus began to laugh, ignoring the eye-roll that was directed at him. "You a match for me? Don't make me laugh!"

"Can't do that because you already did, or maybe you were just coughing out your lungs," Thanatos said dryly.

"Don't act smart with me, you-"

"Its quite hard not to act smart around you, having half a braincell can do that."

Zeus narrowed his eyes, "I will kill you," he said slowly.

Now it was Thanatos' turn to laugh, "Oh thats cute, but unfortunately someone else already called dibs on putting you in your place."

"And who might that be?" Zeus asked.

Zeus stiffened as a hand landed on his shoulder.

Poseidon whispered in his ear, "Take a guess."

Hades stood at Zeus' other side, "Oh no we have to give him a hint. I don't think he knows who we mean."

"Brothers."

"How ever did you guess?" Poseidon said stepping back as skeletal warriors rose from the ground and advanced towards Zeus.

A strong blast of lightning struck the undead soldiers. Reducing them to ashes as Poseidon began to make the earth quake as he lunged at his brother.

They traded blows. Back and forward. Back and forward. To the shoulders, thighs and torsos.

Zeus kept stumbling backwards as the shadows tripped and tugged his legs.

The fight continued like that. Poseidon constantly having the upper hand over his brother and Hades fighting with skeletal soldiers and shadows. Against both of his brothers, Zeus didn't stand a chance.

Thanatos should have found the fight interesting. It was Poseidon and Hades against Zeus after all. The big three all fighting.

But it wasn't.

To him it was just another fight.

He watched as ichor splattered to the ground as Zeus staggered back further, almost falling over the bones on the ground. Poseidon attacked him with renewed strength. Hades made the shadows climb higher, pulling at Zeus' arms.

Zeus was tiring, but he wouldn't give up.

Still it was boring.

Another boring meaningless fight that could have been easily avoided if one side wasn't so stubborn or rude.

He had seen enough of them to know how it would end.

Two against one. All equal in strength. The side with two fighters would obviously win.

It just wasn't interesting to him.

Fights weren't interesting to him.

In fact he was rather sick of them.

Seeing that the three gods were busy he decided to leave. Find another god that he can lead to yet another fight.

He was bored of fights, fighting and violence.

Why couldn't things be peaceful?

Thanatos soared over Olympus, searching the streets. A flash of blue caught his eye and he had to stop to avoid being hit by a god that was falling through the air.

Apparently now it was raining gods, because the world totally needs more of them.

Thanatos flew in the direction that the god had came from and went invisible as he drew closer.

It was calm. The eye of the storm.

The huge glowing outline of a circle expanded across most of the opening. Five beings stood inside it, and another stood outside it.

Thanatos knew the ones in the circle, but he noticed one of then in particular.

Tri.

He also recognised the god that stood outside the circle. Athena.

Thanatos landed behind her, letting his invisibility fall away. He stayed a shadow behind her.

He wouldn't let her hurt Triton.

He imagined that she was Eris and began using the shadows to throw her about as he would for his sister. Eris insisted it was so that she could improve her landing, but he didn't quite believe that. Eris was known for liking to be thrown about like a ragdoll for some reason.

A few moments later, Athena was in front of him. Squirming on the ground as a puddle of ichor slowly spread around her.

"W-who are you?" Athena asked.

Thanatos rolled his eyes, what was with the Olympians and asking who he was. Seriously? Who else do they know that chooses to walk around as a skeleton and has black wings?

Its obvious.

"Take a guess."

From then on out Thanatos just ignored her, only replying sarcastically when she said 'Death'.

He looked over at the group that stared at him, "I hope I didn't miss anything?"

They began talking among themselves after that but Thanatos just watched Triton. An explosion went up behind the Sea god, illuminating him in the orange light of the flames.

Triton smiled and Thanatos couldn't resist the smile on his own face.

"Indeed it shall."

Oh great, more fighting, Thanatos thought. But if this goes right, they the gods shouldn't have to fight.

At least not over anything important.
