Thanatos was leading the way through the hallways that Hades thought made his palace look better. They didn't. They just made it even more of a maze.

Luckily Thanatos had managed to memorise it or else it would have been embarrassing to get lost while leading Tri.

Extremely embarrassing.

But he didn't. That was good.

They stayed silent most of the time. Thanatos didn't mind that. It helped him concentrate on where he was heading. Also he was trying to tell who was in the throne room by the shadows. So far he could tell that his mother- Nyx, Apate, Eris, Moros and two Keres were there with Hades. Oh Thalassa and Nemesis were there too.

When they were one hallway away, still out of earshot, Thanatos stopped.

Tri looked over at him, "Why did you stop?"

"My family is there."

"All of them?"

"No, not all of them."

Triton stood in front of him, "It'll be alright."

"It's not me that I'm worried about."

"Persephone?"

"No, you."

Triton took a second to process that. "I'll be fine."

"There is two Primordials there."

"I might be fine."

"Seven of my siblings."

"Any of the good ones?"

"I have one good sister."

"Well is she there?"

"No."

Triton said something in Ocanoc before switching back to Greek. "Who else?"

"Three death gods."

"Including you?"

"No."

"If they're like you then it won't be that bad."

"I'm peaceful death, one is violent death. The other two differ between the two."

Tri sighed, "We'll have to go in eventually."

The began walking again. Thanatos decided to get the warnings out of the way, "Don't show weakness and don't look directly into either of the Primordials eyes. They will be offended. Don't be too polite or you will become a target for them."

"Alright, no eye-contact and no politeness. Got it."

"If Eris offers you a flower it will explode. If Nemesis offers you anything refuse it and do not touch it."

"So don't take anything if I'm offered it?"

"Yeah, and don't use either my mother or my cousin name as a curse."

"Sounds cheery," Triton said as they came to a stop before the tall doors.

Thanatos gave him a smile, "It isn't."

The doors opened.

Thanatos braced himself for the hug that he knew was coming. Instantly he was lifted off the ground and being squeezed by the one and only Primordial of Night. He hugged her back.

"Hello Mother," he said in his native tongue. It had no direct translation for the name of it but most just called it the Lanuage of the Pit. That name wasn't wrong, it was only used in the pit nowadays. It used to be the common language among immortals before the Gods changed it to Greek. All of the 'Nightmare children' knew how to speak it.

"Oh darling I've missed you, you haven't came home in ages," Nyx exclaimed, setting him back on his feet. She took a step back and put her hand over her mouth, "What have you done to your hair?"

"I had to change it for the Sea customs," Thanatos replied.

Thalassa appeared at her grandmothers side, "I for one think it suits you cousin."

"Any massacres lately?" Eris asked.

Thanatos didn't want to deal with his younger annoyance so he just stabbed her to get her to shut up. It usually worked.

Unfortunately Eris pulled the younger sibling method, "MUM! Thanatos stabbed me!!"

It's going to be a long day, Thanatos thought. He walked away from where Nyx was babying Eris, over to where Tri was trying not too laugh.

For some reason the tide god had taken residence in a corner. Thanatos just leaned against one of the walls beside him.

"So thats your mother," he said in a low tone.

"Thats my mother."

"Aww you're her wittle death child," Tri said ruffling his hair. He did that a lot, Thanatos wouldn't even try to pretend that he understood the merman.

The death god just gave him a look which caused the other god to laugh. That drew attention to them.

"Erebus' backside does Thani have a boyfriend?" Nemesis said her jaw dropping.

Apate nearly dropped her wine while grabbing Tri and dragging him over to the rest of the nightmare bunch. They all began to circle him, all except Nyx and Moros who was just too good to do that. They were inspecting him.

"He has good hair."

"Would be slightly shorter."

"-Muscles."

"Alright- SHUT IT!" Nemesis yelled before facing Tri who was quite offended by Apate messing with his ear fins. "Apate get off him."

"Fine," Apate grumbled shuffling back.

Nemesis turned back to the Sea god, speaking in Greek. "What is your name?"

"Triton."

"What are you? A god? A mortal?-"

"A god."

"God of what?"

"The Sea but mainly tides."

Eris spoke up, "Why are your eyes like that?"

"I usually take the form of a merman."

Thalassa snorted and looked at Thanatos, "I didn't know you liked fish."

Nemesis ignored her and went back to her questions, "What are your intentions with my brother?"

Triton froze, "My what?"

"Your intentions, with my brother. What are they?"

Thanatos stepped forward, "Ok thats enough." He dragged Triton back to the corner and shielded him from the rest of the nightmare bunch.

Tri went and hugged him.

"Um what are you doing?"

"I'm cold," Tri mumbled against his chest.

Thanatos had no idea what to do, so he hugged the smaller god back.

"You probably have to tell them your message."

Tri groaned, "Do I have to?"

"I don't know what it is so I can't tell them."

Triton sighed and buried his head against Thanatos' neck. He pulled away, "Lets tell the vampire then."

The death god grinned. He had been doing that a lot lately for some reason. Maybe it was because he actually had someone to talk to. Who knows.

He pulled his wings back against his back and let Tri walk out.

The Sea god faced Hades, "The Sea is ready."

"Ooooh now this are getting interesting," Eris said as the nightmare bunch all turned to Tri to pay attention.

Tri continued, "The traps have been made, tested and proven to work even above the surface. They can survive against even violent storms and still not break."

"Have you taken any hostages?" Persephone asked. Today she was wearing a purple flower crown.

"No, Father thought it best that you were told before we started."

"How do you know they are effective?"

"We tested them on Kym to get her to shut up," Tri deadpanned.

Thalassa, Nemesis, Eris and one of the Ker began to laugh. Thanatos grinned imagining the scene the goddess caused. He even saw a smile tug at his mothers lips. Moros acted like he was above all this foolishness. Which is to say he covered his mouth with his hand.

The other Ker was at Persephone's side while the Spring goddess made her a black and red flower crown.

Hades tried to remain calm, "Is this how you know that it can survive against storms?"

"Yes, we also got Father trapped in one too."

Hades started snickering in his throne.

Nemesis leaned over to Thanatos, "Who is his Dad?"

"Posiedon," Thanatos whispered back.

Thalassa was on the floor laughing, she would've known about this before Triton said it. Probably only getting a face to the name now.

"Oh and Eros got stuck in one, that's how we knew it worked above water."

Nyx was now smiling and shaking her head.

"Once we got him out, Kym and I had to swim away quite quickly."

"Who is Kym?" Nemesis asked again.

"Kymopoleia, goddess of violent sea storms," Thanatos answered. Nemesis repeated that around the group.

Thalassa spoke up quietly, "Oh I like her, she does proper rituals to create storms. She also uses a disk."

Triton rolled his eyes, "That disk is going to be the death of me."

"Then you would die a worthy death for the consort of my cousin," Thalassa said seriously.

Thanatos' jaw dropped as he looked at Thalassa in betrayal.

"THIS IS BRILLIANT!!" Eris yelled.

"I'm sorry, the what of your cousin?" Triton managed to say.

Thalassa faked looking innocent, "You are the consort of my brother aren't you? What do they call it today? Romantic partner?"

Thanatos had no idea what to say. He had expected this but he didn't expect her to be so open about it. Usually they were a lot more subtle. He definitely didn't think that they would say that in front of Triton.

Triton replied to the Primordial, "Not that I know of."

Thanatos wanted to slam his head against the wall.

Triton faced Thanatos, "Thats all I had to say, should I go now?"

Thanatos nodded, not trusting himself to speak.

They were nearly out the door when Nemesis added fuel to the fire. "Don't get sidetracked!"

Thanatos grabbed Triton's hand and started walking faster, knowing what was to come.

"WAIT ARE THEY TOGETHER?" Nyx yelled. The door burst open behind them.

Thanatos pulled the merman against him and vanished the two of them into smoke before he could see the look on his mothers face.

When they appeared Triton crumbled against the death god, breathing heavily.

"Warning next time, would be nice," Triton said.

Thanatos hugged him, "I'm sorry."

"You don't have to apologise, you caught me off guard and turning to smoke isn't that comfortable."

Thanatos laughed, "Not about that, about my family. I should have warned you that they can-"

"Pull you all over the place and question you?" Triton finished.

"Yeah like that, I'm sorry for what Thalassa said.

Triton hugged him back, "It's fine, I get it all the time from Kym and Feathers."

"So you aren't mad?"

"Of course not angel."

New characters:

Thalassa: she/them- bisexual- Primordial of the Sea (technically Thanatos' niece but she calls them all cousin)

Nemesis:she/her- aromantic- goddess of revenge and balance

The Keres: female death-spirits that personify violent death- most are aro/ace, it is rare for a Ker is experience romantic or sexual attraction- singular: Ker

Moros: he/they- asexual- god of violent death

Eris: she/her- pansexual- goddess of discord

Apate: genderfuild- omnisexual- god of despair

Nyx: she/her- demisexual- Primordial of Night

Of course these aren't accurate to mythology (pronouns, sexualities) but afterall this is a fanfiction and as the author if I want to put representation in, I will put representation in.
