Chapter 6
Finn had fallen asleep on her back and was curled up in wolf form, his fur swishing in the soft breeze. Heather looked to the horizon where a beautiful orange sunset was blooming.
She softly glided down and brushed the top of the trees in the forest below with her fingertips.
A week had passed since they had first slept in their little hut and Heather had read 'The Wind in the Willows' a total of four times. Every second of it reminding her of of Mel and the time Finn- you know...
She lowered herself down into the undergrowth and opened the bag containing their hut. She slid Finn off her back and into his little bed. He let out a little whine and twitched towards her warmth in his sleep, so she pulled his blanket over him and he relaxed.
She went outside and practised her landing from flying and her magic. She also practised her bow skills which she had recently begun. She tapped a special place on the necklace she was wearing - which had a bow-and-arrow charm hanging from the chain - and a real bow materialised in her hand, plus a quiver of arrows slung across her shoulder.
Heather drew targets on the trees all around her with a red marker. She shot one of her arrows the nearest tree. She was shooting her makeshift targets when she felt the presence of another.
She turned and shot two arrows towards the stranger aggressively.
Finn was pinned to a tree trunk, an arrow in his ear and another above his head. Blood had splattered everywhere, dying the tree's bark red.
"Oww," he groaned. "You're good."
"Oh!" Heather rushed over and placed her hand on the side of his head. She removed the arrow quickly and Finn let out a silent scream. She began healing his wound, which was becoming more invisible in the growing darkness. She felt the blood stop flowing and the skin grow over the wound, healing it. Finn stared at her in amazement.
"Thanks," Finn breathed, bringing his hand up to his ear. He gently grabbed hold of her hand and she turned her head to look at him. He brought his face closer to her's, they were almost touching. Heather placed her hand on his chest and gently pushed him away.
"Come on," she said, leading him by the hand into the hut. "Time for bed." He lay down on his bed as she cleaned his wound, wiping away all the blood, before hopping into bed herself.
"Night, Heath," Finn whispered.
"Night, Finnley."

The night was cold as Heather trained, practised and exercised. Finn was out hunting breakfast as Heather jumped over logs and shimmied up and down trees, shooting targets and doing magic.
She also collected some herbs for a salad that would go with the meat Finn was collecting. She sprinted back to the hut to see Finn with a big Powk roasting on a spit. Heather's mouth watered.
"Mmmmm," she showed Finn the herbs. "These are herbs for a salad."
"Sweet!"
They sat there in silence as the Powk cooked before them.
Then Heather realised something. "I've never asked you about your family! Where are your parents?"
Finn stiffened. "My parents are dead."
"Oh, Finn, I'm sorry," Heather said wrapping her wings around his shoulders.
"They were murdered by Gretta and Frank," Finn looked away. "they hid me in the forest, to keep me safe."
He looked back at her, a single tear ran down his face.
"Your parents found me in the forest and gave me a roof over my head, somewhere to sleep and food to eat," he continued. "That's why I promised to look for you. I knew they were sad and worried about you so I went to rescue you to repay them. I didn't know I would make friends with you I just knew I would take you home to your parents, I didn't know I would-" he stopped himself and sobbed into Heather's shoulder.
"I'm sorry Finn," she whispered, holding him close. "I truly am."

They tucked into their roasted Powk, all sadness forgotten. Heather enjoyed Finn's company as she ate, it was somewhat comforting and made her forget about her worries. The salad was quite bitter, but enjoyable nonetheless, and the meat was delicious as usual.
"I think we should stay here one more night," Finn said suddenly. "You know, to train."
"Okay," Heather replied with a mouth full of Powk. "Just one though."
