Here it is! I have to tell you, I'm not completely satisfied with this chapter but I've made you wait too long so here it is. Hope you like!

Bain

I pulled the gun back out and put it between his eyes. Just before I pulled the trigger, a car skidded to a halt in the road. Looking over my shoulder, a man I have never seen before rolled down the black tinted window of the backseat and sticks out a gun. We had no time to take cover before he let loose a large round of bullets. He was an Alpha like me so he was just as quick. I felt a silver bullet pierce the back of my leg and one hit my side.

I heard the car spinning tires as they peeled away. I fell to the pavement and rolled over, looking up at the night’s sky. I heard Connor yell, “Noooooo!”

He fell to his knees beside me and began trying to dig out the bullet from my side with his knife before it took my life.

“Hold on Bain, don’t you leave me!” 

When I saw him panicking with tears in his eyes, I stayed his hand until Kade took the knife from him to do the same. Connor just stared at the wound in my side as Kade dug it out. They had no idea I was shot in the back of the leg too. But, it doesn’t matter. As soon as the blood hits my heart, I’m gone.

I felt my body shutting down and all I could think about was my Kitten. She expected me to come home to her. And I would if I could. Now that she’s pregnant with my child, she’ll be left alone to raise it without me. I was angry at myself for not watching my back like I normally do.

My eyes shut against my will and Kade, Connor, and Laven were all yelling at me to wake up. I heard a different voice join the mix and it sounded just like Jace. He was yelling at them to move and they were yelling back, fighting with him.

Suddenly I felt something slam into my chest. I coughed several times and found the strength to open my eyes. When I did, Jace was leaning over me with a syringe stuck in my heart. 

“You going to be fine man,” he said with relief on his face.

Very slowly my muscles began working again and I was able to turn my head to Connor. I tried to speak but it was hard. I needed to tell them about the second bullet.

I raised my knee up and pointed at my leg. Connor finally looked and cursed.

“Dammit,” he said picking up the knife and dug it out.  

Jace cursed too not knowing if what he shot me with will still work with another bullet still tainting my blood.

“Get him in the room!” Jace demanded over his shoulder. I saw him stand back up and walk over to where his brother was still standing. He punched him and ordered his men to take him.

Connor and Laven picked me up and helped me walk inside the motel room. Dennis was still lying on the ground, a bloody mess. If I had the strength, I would finish the job.

They set me on the bed and tried laying me down but I growled. I didn’t like being this weak but I did almost die. Connor nodded at Laven and they let go with me still sitting in a hunch position.

Jace came in with Kade on his heels. “Don’t take that out,” he pointed at my chest where the needle was still stuck in my heart. “He needs to keep it in until he gains his full strength back. It will kill all Alpha blood and silver toxins that try to attack it.”

“What did you give him?” Kade demanded pissed off at Jace and the whole situation.

“Something someone made me a long time ago. I’ve never tried it myself on anyone but I heard it does work. I don’t even know what’s in it but I see now with my own eyes that it works,” he said staring at me in wonder.

Connor growled and went for him. Laven grabbed his arm and held him back while Kade stood in front of him. “You tested something on my brother and didn’t even know what the fuck it was!?” he roared.

Jace just stood there not worried about Connor’s outburst. “He was dying Connor. He would’ve been dead by the time you dug out that second bullet.”

I agreed with him but Connor was too upset. He needed someone to blame and Jace was the perfect person. When Connor calms down, he’ll see that Jace saved my life and will forever be greatful. He was just like me when his temper gets the best of him, never thinking clearly.

Slowly but surely I was able to stand up. They all looked at me, making sure I wasn’t going to fall. “Dammit, this shit hurts,” I said hoarsely.

“Who was the shooter?” Kade demanded.

Jace walked a few steps to where the table was and took a seat. “That was Tim Preston. He was Dennis’ back up plan but he was almost too late. When he came into town last night, I had no idea he was talking to Dennis. When I noticed him parked just two doors down, watching everything unfold, I knew what he was going to do. I tried to intervene but I was too far away. But don’t worry, my men is following him right now.”

I nodded. Tim Preston was definitely going to die for this. He almost destroyed my mate more than I ever could. And all of this was Dennis’ doing.

I took a few steps and noticed I could walk now. Actually, I could walk pretty damn good. I stretched my arms back and felt everything come back to me. I jerked the needle out and set it down on the night stand.

“Bain, maybe you need to rest before doing anything,” Connor said worried.

“No, give me your gun!” I growled.

He did without much thought and followed me out of the room. Dennis was still on the pavement but he was trying to get up. I thought of all the suffering my mate has gone through because of him. I thought of what she would have gone through if his plan had succeeded.

I raised the gun and pointed it straight at his heart. I pulled the trigger and seen him go completely still. Dennis was no more but I had a new threat. Luckily he was only after me and not Kitten. I don’t know how much my nerves can handle someone else after her.

Jace walked up beside me and nodded. “I’ve got to clean this mess up soon. I think it would be best if you left tonight.”

I agreed. I wouldn’t want all this happening in my town either. One of Jace’s men had the girl that was kidnapped by Garrett by the arm, walking toward us.

Connor met him halfway growling at him. “Get your fucking hand off her!”

The guy looked at Jace and let her go before Connor took it to his ass. Connor wrapped his arms around her and kept her from seeing the grizzly scene of Dennis. I watched him for a moment and even heard him whispering gently in her ear. If I’m not mistaken, I think Connor just chose a mate.

“You know I have to take her with me, right?” Jace said.

I snorted. No one could take her from Connor right now. I’m almost completely positive that’s his girl now. It was confirmed when he scooped her up and carried her across the street, to put her in the truck with him.

“Good luck with that,” I said smirking. “Now, before I go, where is Preston?”

Jace got on the phone and hung up a few seconds later. “They’re almost back in Poplar County. That’s about thirty minutes from here. He’s their Alpha but not a good one.”

I nodded. Preston was going to get a surprise visit from me soon. The county is going to be getting a new Alpha before long. Right now, I need to hold my mate and it was killing me that I was too far away from her. I had to change before going home or she would freak out. Being pregnant right now, could hurt the baby if her nerves stay tore up. I knew she would find out sooner or later because of the two bullet wounds on my body.

Kaitlin

I stared out KC’s bay window in the front of his house for hours, waiting on that big black truck to pull up. When Bain left, I had a bad feeling but I kept it to myself. I blamed it on my nerves and the pregnancy.

KC sat with me for a while with a gun strapped to his side. He tried to calm my nerves but nothing would until I saw him pull up.

“I’ve never understood the mate bond because I’m human but I saw what my daughter went through when she first met Dylan Winters. She was crazy about him and needed him every second of every day, but not at first. He chased Abigail everywhere and even kidnapped her from here. I knew he wasn’t going to hurt her because when you seen them look into each other’s eyes, you knew they loved each other. Love that most cannot explain in a lifetime. That’s what I see in yours and his. Don’t worry so much about him. Bain is just like his father. Nothing will keep him from you.”

I smiled and hugged him for trying to keep me from worrying. As soon as I pulled free, I heard his truck pulling down the drive-way. I ran to the door and flung it open. Bain jumped out and I ran into his arms, where he picked me up and swung me around in a tight hug.

“You missed me, Kitten?” he rumbled in my ear.

I nodded and kissed him to show just how much. I knew my bad feeling was from nerves now. He was fine and in my arms where I needed him to be.

Bain set me down and walked us back to KC. “Thank you, Papa. If you don’t mind, me and Kitten would like to come by more often and we’ll have dinner together.”

KC smiled. “And Connor. I would love that. This old man is getting quite lonely these days.”

We said our goodbyes and got into the truck. Connor wasn’t with him so I guess he must of rode with Kade and Laven.

“Did you get him?” I asked, hoping that he did.

He nodded. “Yeah baby, I got him. You don’t have to worry about him anymore.”

I looked at Bain as he said that and noticed something wasn’t right. He wasn’t as happy as I thought he would be and something looked like it was bothering him. He was lost in thought.

“What are you not telling me?” I asked.

Bain glanced my way before returning his gaze back to the road. “Nothing. I killed him and now I’m here. There’s nothing left to tell. I don’t want to tell you the gory details. That’s something I will never let touch your mind.”

I nodded. I appreciated him not telling me the details. I can do without them but he was leaving something out.

When we pulled up, Bain slid me across the seat and into his arms. I laughed shaking my head. “I can walk, you know.”

“I know but I really want to carry you right now. Just shut it and go with the flow.”

When he closed the front door, something caught his attention and he set me down. I looked toward the kitchen where he was looking and saw Connor and another girl sitting at the counter. He was watching her like Bain watches me and I gasped.

“Is that his mate?” I whispered.

“Yeah, I believe so. Let’s go introduce ourselves,” he said grabbing my hand.

We entered the kitchen and both looked at us. She was very pretty with dark blonde hair and big blue eyes. But she was wearing dirty clothes and had dirt still on her cheeks. Her eyes were swollen like she had been crying for a long time and her hair was stringy. She also had the look of a very terrified girl.

Connor stood up and walked between us. “Taryn, this is my brother Bain and his wife Kit.”

She looked at Bain first and looked at me before whispering hello. Bain nodded and I said hello back. A bowl of fruit and soup was in front of her as she began slowly picking at it.

I was immediately concerned. I gave Bain an evil look, letting him know I was pissed for him not telling about this part of the story. I could tell Taryn was not comfortable with all of us in here so I pulled Bain away, telling Taryn it was nice to meet her.

When we made it in the room, I turned on him quick. “What the hell? Why didn’t you tell me about her? What happened to that poor girl?” I demanded.

Bain toed off his boots, staring at me the whole time. I waited with my arms crossed. When he finally told me how they found her, I held my mouth with my palm, almost crying from knowing what that girl must have gone through. Garrett Reeves should be charged with this! I wanted to tear him to pieces myself.

“Does she even trust Connor right now?”

Bain shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know, Kitten.” He walked over to me held my face in his hands. “Let Connor handle this and stay out of it. If she comes to you, then talk with her,” he said gently, trying to calm me.

His voice did calm me when he spoke like this. I rose up on my tiptoes wanting a kiss. He smiled and lowered his head, taking what I was wanting to take. The kiss turned almost desperate with him lowering one hand on my neck and the other around my waist.

Bain pulled back reluctantly, staring into my eyes. “I love it when you give yourself to me freely.”

We broke apart and he went to take a shower. It was so late, in a couple of hours, it would be daylight again. So I climbed in bed and was excited that he would be joining me soon. I was so worried that he would be gone more than a day. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was a goner.

I woke up the next day without Bain in bed. I didn’t even know if he came to bed because I fell asleep before he even got out of the shower.

I got up and did my morning duties and headed to his office to find him. When he wasn’t in there, I took off downstairs, puzzled by his disappearance. Well, I was really getting pissed but I knew it was my hormones.

I heard voices coming from the living room behind the stairs. But they weren’t just talking, they were yelling and growling.

I hurried around and peered into the room. Bain, Connor, Kade, Laven, and some other guy who looked familiar were all standing there looking tense.

“But you ran after you did it! What else are we supposed to believe!?” Bain yelled at the guy.

“Just fucking trust me!” he yelled back.

I looked at him more closely and knew exactly where I’ve seen him. He was the guy in the picture with Bain. This was Hadeon Winters.

Hadeon sighed and ran his hand through his blonde hair. “I came back because I thought you were dead. The whole town is terrified of him now. They know it would take someone real powerful to take down a Winters.”

“I was almost dead,” Bain said a little quiet. “If it wasn’t for Jace Reeves, I would’ve died right beside Dennis.”

My eyes widened and I almost hit my knees. How could he keep something like that from me? When was he planning on telling me? Tears sprang to my eyes and rolled down my cheeks. I was going to kill Bain.
